As a fan of Japanese music, upon coming across this I commented elsewhere when sharing it. "perhaps the most "Only in Japan" thing I've come across". Make no mistake, she might be nuts, but she is a talented performer. The band are taking their queues from her. If you would like to see a more recent version of Mariko Gotō in her solo career, find the video titled "後藤まりこ - あたしの衝動 (Live)". I think it's the best she's ever done... and yes, she's still gloriously nuts but you gotta give props to any performer who gives every ounce of their being into the performance, leaving everything they have on the stage.
As you can note Gotou Mariko has the real artistic soul! She is the only one recognizable personality of her kind! She is the unique person in show business! Remarkable talent! Amazing girl! Super performance!

i'm like super late, but i've read somewhere in blogs that the reason Midori split was because Mariko was actually pretty unstable mentally at the time they ended, if i'm not wrong she perform and even record music solo now
