Japanese consulate issues warning to residents, tourists after armed robbery in Waikiki

  • Honolulu police have opened a first-degree robbery case after a man recently robbed a Japanese tourist in Waikiki. The crime prompted the Japanese consulate to issue a warning to resident citizens and visitors.

    Hawaii is ranked 6th for crime in the U.S. per capita. They don't tell you that in the travel brochures

    The lady said do common sense things they would do back home? Well the Japanese don’t worry about crime as much in Japan, because it’s not crazy like America. So they are out till late, but not worried about getting robbed!! I lived in Japan and never feared being out like I do here. I feel like I need to get a gun and carry it in my bag to keep safe.

    Let’s stop the lies please…all the smiles on camera and condescension will not help solve the one thing that hits hardest: when the lady said “I go to work and then I go home, I don’t enjoy the city I live in”. The average Waikiki worker is not making $75k+ , which is the average starting pay for officers now. It isn’t a little shame to tell people making half your salary when your job is to protect them, “watch out for yourselves!”?
