I still have Karlach using this flame sword in act 3. I have yet to find a better weapon for her 🤔 (open to suggestions though if anyone knows where to get better ones for her)
you can also pick up the purple flasks (or whatever that is), dump them around Zhalk and light them up (I did the combination, have him drop the sword first and then take 2 turns to neatly stack the stuff up and ignite it)
You don't even need to make the box wall that high nor do you need to teleport with La'zel. Just stack two of those boxes together and put them where you placed yours and you are golden.
You can have Laezel's mage hand fly over to where the sword lands (some rng might be required but I did it on my 2nd try) and have the mage hand throw the sword back to your characters LOL great guide btw, ty. (Be careful not to have the mage hand pick up the sword, the hand will lose invisibility and if it dies I think the sword will be gone for good.)
It works even for a noob who don't know how to use command spell to make him drop his weapon and resort to ganking him 1v5 miss half ur spells and kill him just make sure u get 3 stacks of chest ontop and put them sideways the enemies cannot fly over them and will just be attacking them and deal 0 dmg
My character is a cleric and we killed both of them and got out on normal in good time. The brain and the green girl walked around the room killing all the small stuff and looting, my main character and Shadowheart just sat by the bosses. I used the blessing on me Shadowheart and the mindflayer then Shadowheart used hex, then we just nuked them one after the other with ranged/magic before the reinforcements got near. There’s a lot of RNG involved though. You want the mindflayer to dodge some but not all and you don’t want it to miss more than twice. You really want to hit hex first time so Shadowheart gets to use a damage spell as well. Took a few unlucky practice runs but it was a really fun boss to learn.
closing enemies off is intended. there is even a spell to make sure mobs can't open doors, and devs are constantly using boxes to block off and change topography of any encounter. healing pods can be used by 1 party member to refill slots
I just did this in my new durge tactician campaign and did it a little differently. I didn’t glitch my way in, but walked through the door. Before opening the door, I blocked the entrance with two large chests side by side. Then at the sphincter, I placed the small chest and a nautiloid tank just in case the first barricade failed (it didn’t fail). To kill Zhalk faster, I pushed the Mind Flayer away so Zhalk would have to walk over to punch him. In doing so, he provoked opportunity attacks from my characters. (I positioned my characters around Zhalk so they could use the opportunity attacks.) important to note that if you completely block the path to the mind flayer, Zhalk will just take a couple swings at you instead 💀 almost died, but Heyo 😂😂 After Zhalk died, I placed 3 tanks at the mind flayer’s feet and blasted him to kingdom come, threw a caustic bulb at him, and watched him burn to death 😇. Thank you for this! Because of your guide, I hit level 2 as soon as I hit the beach!
so its even easier than you thought, you just need enough items laid across the doorway that when you try to path over theres 'no path found' so i used the chest and backpack from the previous room was able to manipulate it (using hold click item to move small distance) to block the path just enough.
I watch this video after I took Shadowheart, so I couldn't return to the locations with 3 chests. Because of that I used only one to block the door, and that worked anyway. Thanks for the video! Btw I didn't use the glitch either - I just walked through the door, still worked👌
So ive been taking command for drop, but taking all the explosive barrels with me. Theres 4. Using the acid pods above you, I was able to kill zhalk the flayer and get the cambions to around 20-25hp each by just stacking barrels around the centre of the room, pushing zhalk into the middle. Im still figuring out how to finish the cambion off as well, but I think it's doable. You can also use acid bulbs on the entrance area and make a path of it, helped for damage a little. They like to fly over it, but if they dont you can always detonate it too.
Zhalk must be tough to kill-- 🥲 I just looked up the cambion and *Oof*. You almost need a debuff or something to get rid of the resistance stats. Goodluck at getting rid of the cambion🍀
If you use the mage hand thing, I think it sets off an explosion in the room the cambions are standing in when you walk up to the door. You could have shadowheart casting long range on Zhalk and try to set off that explosion when the Cambions spawn? Idk how much damage it does or if it hits their exact spawn location, just something I noticed while messing around in the prologue.
@@Fracture.Gaming Im definitely going to have to play around with mage hand. The explosion has been really varied, sometimes the cambion have 40hp left sometimes 20. I think the best damage I got was 4 barrels, I used a bulb above 1 which melted it and cause the contents to spread. The explosion from 3 barrels and the liquid seemed to be way more than 4 barrels.
i did this yesterday without the mage hand exploit (because they patched it). If you want more hits on zhalk, you'll have to get lucky in the character turn order, then you can push the squid guy around (100% push chance since he's an ally at that point). When zhalk tries to move towards him to attack, your charactesr will reaction attack him. I also used the bird to blind him for advantage.
Thanks, I went and did it the hard way and that bloody mindflayer stole my kill so no achievement/XP. Used your trick to quickly get the job done (short on time off and want to enjoy more of the game before heading back to work). Plenty of quicksaves, couple of reloads to get some decent RNG (to get the drop command to work and avoid some critical misses) and dropped the commander with my main character and then the Mindflayer so got XP for both (would be easier to let the commander kill the mind flayer but I'm greedy and wanted to get both of them).
@@TheT8or block the door leading to boss room. The small hallway just before the door. You will know its blocked if you can not walk to other side and have to jump over. I used 2 chests on top of one another. 1 chest might work but never tested it.
You can do everything as normal and put one of those chests nearest the door oriented wide. The reinforcements will never get through the chest is tough and you don't need the teleport exploit.
The greatest challenge is killing the reinforcements as well. I hear they drop pretty good amount of coins if you manage to kill them. In tactitian mode, i couldn't do it even if i wanted to. I have to sacrifice someone as a kamikaze and that's still not a guaranteed. Maybe if i can keep mindflayer alive long enough but that hard in tactitian mode. The commander deals 6 dmg twice in that mode. And the reinforcement can throw fire bolt. If you set up barrel traps, they'll aim for that.
I'm on PS5. The mage hand didn't work but I blocked the reinforcements with the large chests and used Shadowheart's Command Drop and it worked the first try.
I may have to do this on my next playthru, I hate leaving him up. I generally don't do a ton of cheesing, but this I can see working great, and then after Balthazar wrecked me a bunch of times on a playthru, I found out about the cheese method for him, and for now on, that's my go to for all the pain he put me through. Balthazaar cheese = start convo, switch to a high str character, and use shove to push him into the Abyss.
Pushing him off sounds great, lol. If you want to loot Balthazaar, try moving all the bones to the same place before the fight so when he summons his skeletons, they're all in the same place. Blow em all up with a smokepowder bomb or barrel and the rest of the fight is easy, I beat him with 4 level one characters. Just spread out :)
@@Fracture.Gaming oh nice, on my current playthru I may have to try the bone trick. Although can I just pick up the bones and put them in my inventory?
The purple nautoloid containers will explode if hit with fire, you can snag 4 of them and do some hefty damage to the illithid (who attacks you after) and commander.
just stack the chest there. they cant get in. then just fight like normal while move into room collet purple explosive things, and when he gets kinda lower in health drop those purple things around them, back away, and fireball from Shart finish them both easy peasy
Just did this on Honour Mode to get 150 extra starting XP for my Bard from Commander Zhalk and the Mindflayer. It seemed harder on Honour Mode as the Mindflayer attacks don't seem to be able to stun Zhalk. I blocked the doorway with the chests to keep the Cambions out. I was lucky and Shadowheart succeeded with the first cast of Command: Drop. Still the Mindflayer seemed to lose health much faster than Zhalk, so I casted Heroism on the Mindflayer with my Bard to gives him back 5 health per round, while I took out all the smaller enemies and collected the Nautiloid tanks. After only Zhalk and the Mindflayer were left Shadowheart used Bless on my Bard, Lae'zel and Us and my Bard used Faerie Fire on Zhalk (and the Mindflayer). Then Us, Lae'zel with the Everburn Blade and my Bard with dual Shortswords tried to get Zhalk down. To be safe I then placed all the Nautiloid tanks, let Us eat Zhalks opportunity attack and dashed away from them with everyone. Shadowheart then blew them both up by throwing a Firebolt on the Nautiloid tanks. But I think it even should have worked without them.
I just collected all the exploding barrels and put the in his face, the hit it with a firebolt does close to 40 damage so if you first get him below 40 then blow him up. You need the barrels from the rest of the ship too
Grab all 4 purple barrels, three in the room, and one by the Shadowhearts pod. Place them around the boss. Get him down to about 50HP. Stand back and blow them up. Loot them, and you are done.
As others said - Mage Hand trick is fixed, but the chests in the doorway works great still! I had to save scum to do it to make sure I got enough damage in to win, but on Tactician it worked!
Damn, you can switch clerics spells on the go? I thought you can switch them only at level up. RIP best sword in first act for my first playthrought but on the second one as a paladin I will get it!
Wizards paladins, druids, artificers and clerics can. Moon sorcs sort of can(theyre not in this game but theyre not canon i dont think either as they were unearthed that didn't make the cut) as their moon phase could be changed which meant what spells they had access too changed. But yeah clerics can change prepped spells at rest.
Im late to BG3 but the fact this still works other than the teleworking is great. Place the chest ls just right and they're to sturdy for reinforcements to break
Never thought of using command to get him to drop his weapon… I honestly thought it was a higher level spell she didnt get until level 2. Only reason I kill the commander is to get his sword, getting him to drop it, and yoinking the sword is great, and much faster if you dont care about killing him.
Great, I defeated him before, but now I need to kill him on Honor mode, but actually all I wanted was his good sword. Even the game hand was fixed, the door block still works
worked like a charm. had dogshit RNG tho ( mind flayer almost died even WHILE i healed him, and yes zhalk was disarmed ), so was cutting it kinda close; got to the objective after with like 2-3 turns left
You just save before casting command, then reload the game if it fails. Also try having Shadowheart cast bless on your party members for a better chance to hit.
All you have to do now is put the big chest blocking the first opening to the door, and then just put down the two brain jars and small chest right in front of the door and they wont fly or get past it. Easy peesy.
You can still do this without glitching to the boss room. I was able to place the two chests in the entryway and the cambions couldnt get in even when the door was open
I'm not too used to comment below videos but you actually deserved it. I aleady had the achievement on tactician but want to do the perfect run on honour and this asshole was always the first issue. Couldn't have magic hand worked properly (not at all actually, couldn't cast so highh) but the chest and other shit impiled on the entrance worked like a charm, as you said you need to stay far from them with all character, just surround zhalk and you should be good. Btw, thank you!
i found another way to cheese: your way didn't work BUT! i used chests just to block the entrance and 2 guy made a full circle to the lower level and stayed there throughout the whole fight
I see a lot of people calling things like this an exploit and if it were any other game I might agree. But this game is based on D&D and in D&D you are greatly rewarded for thinking out side of the box and doing unexpected things to give you an advantage. Especially knowing that even without using this tactic you can beat Zhalk and get the sword, so in my opinion this is just another way to do it. If there was supposed to be no way to ever get the sword from Zhalk then yes I would say it was an exploit but, as it stands now I don't believe it is.
Yup, when I DM, I reward the hell out of my players for thinking outside of the box. I don't let them break the rules (bending a bit beyond rules as intended maybe, but within reason), but if they get creativity, I'm gonna feed that creativity because it makes DMing fun.
There are 4 explosive tanks around the intro part... just set them around the commander after you slowly wittle him down to about 50 HP and big badaboom he dead... and the ilithid as well
Larian watching this:"See his character is cautious and took a guess on there being an ambush from behind and he was right so it's fine leave it in" Executives:"listen just make an improvised telekinesis Mage already we know it'll happen at some point anyway"
this strategy somewhat still work at at least on ps5 , since it wont let me teleport on the ps5 what i did was to block the door with the chest and all the thing i could find enter normally and disarm zhalk and beat the living shit out of him and his posses never came 🤷♂
Am i wrong because i feel like you just need 1 chest to block the path, last time i did that the cambion either skipped their turns or ran to lower level then skipped turns... no need for the whole teleport thing and 3 chest imo
Can confirm that you need the fogcloud Correction: No you don't I just put 2 of the chests at the anus door and one at the end of the hallway, they don't pass.
First time I played I cracked at laughing at the puckered butthole doors. My partner didn’t find it funny though 🙄 but come on, the developers knew what they were doing making them look like that 😂
Tried 5-6 times, the guy beats the shit out of the Mind Flayer even without his weapon. The others can't really do much when 4/5 hits miss. I don't know how lucky you guys must be, but it's impossible for me in a straight up fight (and I hate cheesing things), even with Protection from Evil/Good on the Mind Flayer, the commander still destroys him with consistent 6 or 12 dmg per round, while all 4 can barely drop him to 1/3.
Try casting bless on the mind flayer and your party members, then exploding the 3 (4 if you grabbed the one by shadowhearts pod) nautiloid tanks when he gets to about 30 hp. You should be able to clear him extremely consistently as long as you command him to drop the sword as quickly as possible.
Hey I tried it out and the whole mage hand part isn't necessary. You just need chests. If you leave the door open, you would be able to see that kambions are standing there hitting chests, but their piercing weapons aren't doing enough damage to break thru the threshold
@@plumbum9688 Oh I just remembered what I forgot to mention in the video. The mage hand teleports you a different distance depending on how many doors you've opened so far (or something like that). So that's probably why you didn't make it all the way, which is what I'm assuming happened.
@@Fracture.Gaming oh that makes sense! I still have Karlach using this flame sword in act 3. I have yet to find a better weapon for her 🤔 (open to suggestions though if anyone knows where to get better ones for her)
The cartilaginous-chest thing still helped a lot in keeping the cambions away, making the Zhalk fight easy on Normal, thank you so much!
you can also pick up the purple flasks (or whatever that is), dump them around Zhalk and light them up (I did the combination, have him drop the sword first and then take 2 turns to neatly stack the stuff up and ignite it)
You don't even need to make the box wall that high nor do you need to teleport with La'zel. Just stack two of those boxes together and put them where you placed yours and you are golden.
Yeah it looks like my first attempt overcomplicated things 😅
@@Fracture.Gaming and I'm all for it! Keep up the good work buddy!
You can have Laezel's mage hand fly over to where the sword lands (some rng might be required but I did it on my 2nd try) and have the mage hand throw the sword back to your characters LOL
great guide btw, ty.
(Be careful not to have the mage hand pick up the sword, the hand will lose invisibility and if it dies I think the sword will be gone for good.)
You can use the mage hand to throw dead imps at Zhalk as well (doesn't do much dmg but its funny)
2:02 you can also use the hand to fly straight at the sword then throw it on the ground near your character.. sick move, nice video 👌
So pumped to watch your play through! I’ve been loving this game would love to see some good cheese on it
Thanks for the video! I couldn’t get the mage hand thing to work but the stack of chests was *chefs kiss*
I watch this video after I took Shadowheart, so I couldn't return to the locations with 3 chests. Because of that I used only one to block the door, and that worked anyway. Thanks for the video!
Btw I didn't use the glitch either - I just walked through the door, still worked👌
Thank you sir! Still works great without mage hand, and orienting the 3 chests wide guarantees the Cambions don’t come through 👍
So ive been taking command for drop, but taking all the explosive barrels with me.
They drop a few nice Elixirs but not much. I'm still trying to figure out if it's doable legit.
I also used the bird to blind him for advantage.
after 10 attempts- came to youtube... your video was suggested- first try xD thanks!!!
Happy it helped :)
Stacking chests is perfectly balanced with no exploits :D
Can't wait for the spiffing brit video now 😂
I didnt know you could even move the chests
You can just block the door with 2 chests. Thats what i did. No need to do anything else. The cambions will just attack the chests for 0 damage.
Yep, this works like a charm. And cheese-free as well.
Block the door inside the boss room?
I was just about to set up my second playthrough for my Paladin run and this seems to be the perfect way to get my awesome sword easy lol
Couldn't get him to drop it during fight but I killed him 2nd try. Thank you so much for this.
The purple nautoloid containers will explode if hit with fire, you can snag 4 of them and do some hefty damage to the illithid (who attacks you after) and commander.
I can’t tell where Lae’zel is supposed to be standing for this.
just stack the chest there. they cant get in. then just fight like normal while move into room collet purple explosive things, and when he gets kinda lower in health drop those purple things around them, back away, and fireball from Shart finish them both easy peasy
Superb! Thank you for this video!
I just collected all the exploding barrels and put the in his face, the hit it with a firebolt does close to 40 damage so if you first get him below 40 then blow him up. You need the barrels from the rest of the ship too
You can kill the Cambions too. Might take a few tries, but I’ve done it now with 4 different races/classes on honor mode.
Grab all 4 purple barrels, three in the room, and one by the Shadowhearts pod. Place them around the boss. Get him down to about 50HP. Stand back and blow them up. Loot them, and you are done.
I spent so much time and did it so many ways and fail at them all, blocking the door is brilliant
You can also collect all the Nautiloid Tanks and stack them around him, then have Shadowheart cast Firebolt to blow them up.
Can confirm the cheese is still working as of Sep. 12'th. (playing on steam deck)
I was wondering if you'd play this, cool! I think you should do more videos like this with all sorts of weird cheese instructions
I love this. I love cheese, so much! You are my hero.
you sir, are a champion and a scholar in the art of cheese, brie good, brie good.
You can just throw a grease bottle at the tunnel. The cambions don’t want to go past it
worked like a charm. had dogshit RNG tho ( mind flayer almost died even WHILE i healed him, and yes zhalk was disarmed ), so was cutting it kinda close; got to the objective after with like 2-3 turns left
What a legend! He really did that... I think, it's the first Guy that said directly to not subscribe his channel xd
that trick is nice also
the problem is not the reinforcements
its that 100% of attacks miss against him.
i'll try the Command spell, but i'm sure this will also not land.
You just save before casting command, then reload the game if it fails. Also try having Shadowheart cast bless on your party members for a better chance to hit.
you dont even need to stack the chests or teleport in, the cambions can't fly over even one chest and you can place it for free on your first turn.
All you have to do now is put the big chest blocking the first opening to the door, and then just put down the two brain jars and small chest right in front of the door and they wont fly or get past it. Easy peesy.
Never have I ever heard a youtuber say "don't subscribe". Legend 👍
You can still do this without glitching to the boss room. I was able to place the two chests in the entryway and the cambions couldnt get in even when the door was open
I just plopped down chests and that was good enough. lol
I just put 1 chest and they just hit the chest and because of the sturdy they can't get in.
i managed to take out the commander but then his back up was taking me out before i can take out the mid flayer lol
youtuber telling me not to sub because theres a chance his content isnt for me? sounds like a you just got my sub brother lol
This Tactic would be way easier, if he wouldn't be so stubborn on resisting command:Drop -.- Nice Vid, Thanks for that! :)
i blessed the mindflayer laezel and shadowheart as my cleric
Another way to get rid of these enemies is to stack explosive Illithid barrels near them and go boom
i found another way to cheese: your way didn't work BUT!
i used chests just to block the entrance and 2 guy made a full circle to the lower level and stayed there throughout the whole fight
Appreciate the upload.
There are 4 explosive tanks around the intro part... just set them around the commander after you slowly wittle him down to about 50 HP
and big badaboom he dead... and the ilithid as well
This sword looks huge on my halfling. 😂
Lmao
Just tried it and it still works
Larian watching this:"See his character is cautious and took a guess on there being an ambush from behind and he was right so it's fine leave it in"
Executives:"listen just make an improvised telekinesis Mage already we know it'll happen at some point anyway"
The mage hand shenanigan doesn't work (cries)
Chests in the door work like magic, so fun to see cambions try to break them with tridents
this strategy somewhat still work at at least on ps5 , since it wont let me teleport on the ps5 what i did was to block the door with the chest and all the thing i could find enter normally and disarm zhalk and beat the living shit out of him and his posses never came 🤷♂
Am i wrong because i feel like you just need 1 chest to block the path, last time i did that the cambion either skipped their turns or ran to lower level then skipped turns... no need for the whole teleport thing and 3 chest imo
Can confirm that you need the fogcloud
Correction: No you don't I just put 2 of the chests at the anus door and one at the end of the hallway, they don't pass.
anus door :) that made me chuckle
First time I played I cracked at laughing at the puckered butthole doors. My partner didn’t find it funny though 🙄 but come on, the developers knew what they were doing making them look like that 😂
My son I just gave him this tip he's having a blast with the sword as tiefling paladin
Yay that’s awesome! It’s a very fun sword to start the game with.
This no longer works. Mage hand won't teleport me up there 😞
I can't get it to work. For me when I press O I don't see black but it shows through the map to the bottom level 😢
i'm so upset that they took away the find familiar method, you can't summon one because of a status effect and its just stupid. 😕
So you stay there smaking him and comepletly ignore those barrels that you can place near him and explode. Not cheesy enough!!
Liked, for the thumbnail alone :p
25.8.23 Tried that and works like a charm :D thanks
Hey I tried it out and the whole mage hand part isn't necessary. You just need chests. If you leave the door open, you would be able to see that kambions are standing there hitting chests, but their piercing weapons aren't doing enough damage to break thru the threshold
Nice! I would have expected them to fly over if they had a clear running path after the chest stack. Good find :)
@@Fracture.Gaming yeah I failed to replicate the hand trick so I hoped it would do something anyway xd maybe they're too big to fit, I dunno!
Btw since I got the chance to talk to the mister cheeser himself, I haven't find a lot of unexpected exploits yet, but my favorite little cheese so far is to stack "until long rest"-duration spells on everyone and then leave the caster back at the camp. Works very funny with warding bond. Spec a least favorite character into cleric and leave them to perish back at the camp xd
easiest way to kill all is to abuse save/load in combat, nothing beats perfect damage every turn ^^ (took me only 50 saves to kill them on tactician, round 4)
