Yup, thats how to fix this problem, possibly temporarily, but fix it at least. I happen to have experience with this as well, but another device and a smaller display. The nasty thing about the problem with the display you're showing is just that the cable is folded over. In my case I used just a soldering iron on a low setting (125C, if I remember correct) to push down on the cable and fix it that way. Very well done! :)
When I see people do re-flows I notice some aren't successful, but the guys that soak it in flux first have a much higher success rate. I think when joints crack they oxidize so that they don't always remelt together, but when you use flux the joints clean and have a much better chance of remelting.
I was wondering how they get it to stick to glass - thought it was some kind of glue -. Those Fluke screens seem to be a big problem because I saw EEVblog having a go at one as well. Good work on the vid.
Good show, nicely done. Them LCD's seem to fade either to black or light in the sun, so it looks like the effects are gone once it returns to room temps. I'll have to keep this in repair technique mind
Well done, its usable again :-D. Im supprised that fluke didnt apply a clamp of any kind, or just use a longer ribbon so there is less stress on the connections. I think i would try inserting a rubber rod into the bend space, so when the screws are tightened the display is pushed down slightly by the plastic fasia. Still i think it would be short term.
Common issue with a lot of LCD displays like this that end up in the bin because of excess lines, and repairing the ribbons is definitely only temporary sadly... :\ And LCDs do "fade out" when heated above a certain temperature, but usually doesn't harm them unless it's excessively hot...
I put padding between the strip and the cover to hold down connections
"I am agitating this board quite fiercely" new favorite quote.
Indeed.

Yep - however these LCD bonds aren't usually solder, but rather some form of conductive hot-melt glue.

Craig Nehring Yeah, they have a limited operating temperature range for some reason I don't entirely understand due to LCD physics.

Excellent and informative video. With great outcome.
Muito obrigado, Parabéns. Excelente aula.
A good reason to buy a heating station ... what model do you have?
The cheapest one.
where can found this ribbon cable for Fluke scopemeter 190?
Hi there
I have a a fluke 123 industrial scope meter

Nice fix tho it probably won't last more then a few weeks in a hot car.
Sadly it didn't even need a hot car... Now it has about 6-7 lines again... :-/
