Thanks for the video. I've done this before but it went dim again. After viewing the video, I tried it and it didn't work. Then I realized if I squeezed the front bezel and the back of the meter, it became dark again. So I put a crumpled piece of paper towel behind it and it pressed the screen and make it dark like new. Just another tip for everyone.
Another success story here. Brought my Fluke 83 back to 100%. Side note, on my 83 that back screw was mandatory to remove the top plate. Thanks man, you saved my favorite piece of gear!
Hi Phil V Thank You very much! I do enjoy to receive these success stories, and know that I helped people to get good equipment back in working condition - glad you liked the video :-) Thank you for watching! :-)
Hi had this problem on my Fluke 88 for years.Carried out the procedure and WHAM its fixed.Looking forward to using my old Fluke meter now over 25 years old and thanks to you its back in service. Many thanks Tam.
Hi +Tam Couch Really glad I could help,, i made another video where i was complaining about the digits being hard to read. And someone pointed me to this solution. Thank you for watching :-)
Can't believe this is all I needed to do to fix my Fluke 83. 5 minute job and it's like new. It was oxide on the tinned pcb pads in my case. Just a light 'scrub' with iso-propanol and a cotton bud job done. Many thanks for a great video. Dave
Hi +Dave B Yes there is really not any more magic involved :-) and this video is 10 month old,, and my meter still looks great. Do enjoy more of my videos,,, Thank you for watching! :-)
Thanks for making this video, Morten! I thought my 25+ year old Fluke 87 was on its last legs but it turns out you found exactly what was wrong. I used iso alcohol rather than acetone but it worked perfectly. I hope your video stays up as a reference for years to come! It works just like NEW!
Hi Brad Kamrath Thank You very much! I was equally happy fixing mine, and is happy to pass on the fix, to keep this awesome equipment going. - glad you liked the video :-) Thank you for watching! :-)
Hi Norman Witts Thank You very much! You are the second person in a week, to get new life in the a old Fluke,, I am so happy I could help! Thank you for watching! :-)
Thank you so very much for putting this video out for the world to see. I was having the same issue with my trusty Fluke 85 that I have had for over 20 years. I was afraid it was going dead on me but thanks to your excellent step by step instruction plus a tiny bit of acetone and 3 q-tips it only took me 10 minutes or so to restore a beautiful display. Since the new ones seem to cost from $400 to $600 I am really pleases to be able to keep my money in my pocket. Thanks again.
Brilliant! I have a fluke 83 it's over 30 years old and I thought I might have to scrap it, but hey presto I followed all you did and it's back as new and should now last me out, very expensive to replace but it's fine now and still going strong...thanks for the info.
Great tip, thanks. BTW, that trick also works very well on TV or DVD/BluRay remote controls on which the buttons have to be pressed very hard for them to work after a few years. Just take it apart (sometimes a little difficult because their casing is often two halves snapped together), and clean the PCB traces and black conductive rubber dot with isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol), and they should work like new again.
Hi blackal53 Thank You very much! very happy to hear, that this helped you,, mine is still good! - glad you liked the video :-) Thank you for watching! :-)
Wow! Has been a great surprise follow yours easy instruction and recover my loved multimeter. I bought it in 1985 been essential part of my electronic shop in Puerto Rico. My multimeter was almost unreadable (ghost) and thanks to you, today is like new. Thanks again for share your knowledge. Edwin Nieves
Thanks, someone gave me their fluke85 with the ghosting screen because they thought it was broken. I just so happen to watch enough youtube videos to stumble upon your video. I originally was watching your dewalt cell battery replacement. A+ will subscribe.
Thanks I found one someone at work threw out because the display wasn't readable. Thanks to youtube I found out I can clean the contacts and get it working. It works perfectly now thanks. Just make sure the longer strip on the display goes at the top and the shorter strip goes at the bottom so you don't have to do trial and error. I just used alcohol to clean it.
Funny same here....guy at work gave me a dead 87 and he says maybe I can use for parts. I fixed the display and lived happliy after. Felt kinda bad...but not that bad. That was 13 years ago.
Hi the_wiz Thank you for telling me,, I am so glad that you cut use this video, and that it has helped you with your 88v. Do look around, I might have other things you could find exciting! Thank you for watching! :-)
Congratulations, I have a problem when I try to read IP with the Fluke 1587 it reads Errr. What can be the possible causes? I don't achieve anything in the manuals. Can you help me please?Thank you very much
Maybe they do in recent days, but not back in the 1990's. My model 87 is not under warranty and they won't calibrate it anymore either. Only offer a replacement model 87-V for an upgrade cost of about $350.

Have you ever tried using the free Hyper-V Core 2012 R2 as a hypervisor? I use it in my datacenter and I really love it, i think more than ESXi because of super easy replication and live migration. You should do a video on it, I would love to see it!
Hi Jeremy Scalpello I'm probably most a VM-ware Fan,, and particularly ESXi which is also free. However, a speed test could be fun. Be kind to and keep the comments about the video you write them in,,,please Thank you for watching! :-)
