WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE FILM?
Watch *"Mission Mangal"* movie
good movie with un expected climax twist
watch out this director's first movie, a very good movie and must watch( Underrated one )👍
Good movie with un expected twists, screenplay❤🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I sensed the final twist half way through the movie... For me the bigger surprise twist was the cops.. you dont expect cops to be that considerate.. thats what threw me off and was a pleasent surprise.
Yes me too. Sensed the twist plus the hair cut was only 20 ruppees so we know that’s in the past.
Me too
Me too
I knew she was his kid when she took the shoes without asking
What do you mean u knew with the shoes thing?? I didn't get it@@akashjoseph9033
A small correction. You said initially VJS makes good choices...actually it's so not true. He was that kind of a perfect choice maker till 2019 and something happened after lockdown and he made very bad solo movie choices between 2020-2023....but Maharaja finally seems to be his best zone kinda movie...happy for that!
Exactly all were extremely terrible. Those solo movies were extreme cringefest and headache
Do you know what changed him its 800. He loved his audiences and always craved and passionately worked to give quality cinema to the people. But the way people reacted to 800 announcement despite multiple pleas from him to look at the output and then judge him people refused to listen. Thats the moment he realised that theres no need to win people's hearts any more. From then on he did movies just for money and accepted the roles if the pay is good. He even did many side roles and villain roles just for money. This is how you kill the artists and their passion.
Do you know the reason??? Actually he literally said he has given more chances to new directors out of sympathy, if the movie goes well then it's a win for both but if it fails he'll take the blame just like you're talking about his choices right now. You can check that video on TH-cam, I don't know what video it is but I have seen it. Then I understood the reason behind the flop movies
As a sethu anna fan I agree ❤
Master and Vikram are not bad choices.
16:25 Sj.Suryah. You guys saw him in Jiggarthanda 2
Actually sj Surya directed only to become an actor
But he hasn’t done anything lately. He has very few hit movies in the past 20 yrs ago and just quit after that. He wanted to be actor only.
Just now watched this movie in netflix.. what an amazing screenplay of a simple story.. Great twist in the climax❤
Agree with you. Awesome movie. Loved it a lot.
Great movie
FYI:
Inspector in that movie is a cinematographer become actor.
Police informer aka one of the rapist is Director bcom actor. He delivered his best in this movie.
The inspector and Anurag are real life friends. They did few Hindi movies together as Director and Cinematographer.
That climax twist of anurag's daughter.... Reminded me of The OldBoy
And iratta movie too
That was oldboy
A lot of this film had similarities to oldboy
@@IceCreemeMan in old boy, they did consensually. Here it was rape and torture.
Yes the old boy twist of the 15 yr jail where the child is someone unrecognizable
𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙖 𝙟𝙖𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙞 𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙮𝙖
There is 6 months left for the year , even i can say that maharaja is the best movie of the year for it's screenplay
No noo no no nono nono yes agreeed
Manjummel boys
@@rohanthomask7024 yes
@@rohanthomask7024several unnecessary scenes were added in it which made no sense. Lot of scenes forcefully fitted in the movie
@@solitudeking7939 I can say that about Maharaja as well, it's screenplay is amazing but it also has a lot of fluff
VJS characters, Maharaja telling the "robber stole his dustbin" story for report at the police station to figure out which cops did it is hilariously genius.
SJ SURYA Director turned actor ❤
As the movie approached the climax scene, i guessed the child could be Anurag chr's. it was going that way! That final twist is similar to Old boy (korean) or Iratta (Malayalam). But the storytelling was sheer brilliance! Loved the way the story unfolds! Connecting the points was interesting! But the last scene in construction area, i started guessing the twist! But not till that scene! In that the director did maintained the momentum.
I was going to comment the same and then I saw your comment. They should watch Old boy.
I was going the say the same . I agree the twist is similar to Iratta . I guessed the final twist when Anurag had a look at the picture of Maharaja and his daughter.
Anurag hurt his shoulders doing his fall on the steps. It's pretty rough fall i felt that on theatre.
I watched the movie twice and it gave me another perspective and noticed a lot of things that I didn't when I watched it the very first time. SPOILER! Always notice Maharaja's hand tapping the police officers' back. The scence in the police station is the present time and is looking for the 2nd guy. Whenever the third guy is on the screen and the scenes where Jothi is in the school event, those are indications of flash backs. Also, when Maharaja keeps on checking his daughter's chats and video messages, it's in the present time as well. He was only checking back or rereading all messages Jothi has sent her.
SJ Surya is our own Jack Nicholson! We mean it when we say it! The calibre he has is extraordinary!!! His filmography as actor:
Iraivi - by Karthik Subbaraj
Mark Antony
Jigarthanda double X
Maanadu
Nenjam Marappathillai
None could have done the roles he played and except double x rest of the movies ran for his acting only!
SPOILER in this comment:
The climax scene where Sethupati is waiting for the "third" guy, when he sees the third guy (who you know is who), he is shocked because even he himself didn't expect THAT guy to be the 3rd guy and that's why he gets into a vulnerable state where he actually gets beaten up.
in Tamil cinema we have SJ Surya, famous director come actor, you guys seen him in Jigarthanda double x as Ray Dasan, one of the 2 main protagonist.
And funnily, someone who tried to become a movie director in the movie. It was so funny when he learns some action cut and says now I am also a director.
Guys, It's High time that you should explore S J Suryah. He's predominantly a movie director. Later he started acting in films. We're calling him "Nadippu arakkan" (monstrous actor) here in tn. Korbon has seen him in "Maanadu" movie. He played as the cop who's stuck in that time loop.
Farhan Akhtar started as director, his first film was "Dil Chahta Hain". LPG also acted in his first directorial feature film, he has acted in few films which also includes small roles in his directorial ventures. Basil Joseph is also another such director-actor (director of Minnal Murali). Dileesh Pothan is another director-actor (director of Thoondimudalum Driksahiyum.... the gold chain snatch movie of Fahad Fazil). Director Ranjeeth who has acted in few films. Actually there are more than a few examples of director-actor in Malayalam and I am sure you will find them in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil cinemas.
Talking about Director's turned actors ... In this movie Maharaja, the police informer who is one of the 3 culprits is done by Singampuli who was a director of 2 movies which did not fare much and then he became an actor. He has done more than 100 movies but mostly in comedy roles. People were actually stunned while seeing him in this movie as they did not expect him to do this role.😂
8:52 that particular twist is in a few movies already. It was maybe obvious but the director’s execution hides it in plain sight.
Though it might come off as wrong to many, I'm just going to say it.
Getting "VJS" on this channel to interview is a huge deal. He's a superstar. Great job you guys 🎉.
Yes it's a huge deal but they as their follwer i was not surprised because they already got ar rahman, zakir khan, anurag kashap
Following are Malayalam directors who has done several acting roles that I know off.
Dileesh pothan - director of joji, maheshinte pretthikaram
Ranjith
Vineeth sreenivasan (lead in associates movie)
Khalid Rehman - acted in Manjummel boys, he directed thallumala (Battle of brawls)
Best - Basil Joseph
I believe Farhan Akhtar was a director first. I think his first directorial film is Dil Chata Hai in 2001 and his first time acting is in Rock On which is in 2008 so I would day he is director turned actor like Anurag. I could be wrong so let me know if I messed up somewhere
Loved the linear editing in Maharaja movie 👌
Non linear screenplay
The execution of the climax was great but I wouldn’t say it was totally original. A Malayalam movie called Iratta had a similar twist.
But only in India would you see musician turned actors, comedian turned actor, director turned actor or vice versa. It has been cropping up as of late and seems like we could expect to see more of the same in the near future..BUT...provided they are well received by the public. For example there's a difference between Santhanam who was in his peak in comedy, started to only act as a lead in movies but most of these movies did not do well or fared average in the box office. While Soori who was/is a comedian, started focusing in dramatic and serious roles recently and audiences have started celebrating him as an actor. For Santhanam's case, he is only always going to be typecast as a comedian
Beautiful movie and I loved the screenplay of how it twists between present and past. You mentioned a similar movie where their daughter was part of the antagonist - yes, thats Irattam which you reviewed few months ago. It has a similar ending and you guys reviewed it fantastically well.
Talking about Anurag, yes this is the first time (I think) I have seen him in a movie and yes he did exceptionally well.
The movie as a whole with screenplay of Maharaja has come out really well and I loved it. I loved your review after watching the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you very much for sharing. God bless you
Wonderful review like always 👏 👍
That kind of twist was in Korean movie Old Boy.
Comedian in Soodhu Kavvum is the Same actor Assault Sethu The Main Gangster character in Jiggarthanda 1. Wish you guys know it! 😊 Bobby Simha
Ameer is one such prolific director who is more into acting now. He has one of the most versatile filmographies for a director and was celebrated for his acting in films like Yogi, vadachennai.
There is director called “sundar c”. From 1995 to present time he directing movies. Since 2006 he started it act in movies as lead
SJ Surya is more of a director turned into an actor..he is also a good actor...you watched his film maanaadu where he plays the role of a cop..also in jigardhanda double X, he did a fabulous job..His acting prowess can be seen in many films..
The story in this movie really keeps you thinking the whole time.
Spotted you guys at the IFFLA screening promo at 0:25 (on the Tentkotta channel). Looks like you can find the person you were looking for.
I feel andy serkis is an under rated actor turned director. His range between the character he played in black panther and Batman is phenomenal. He must be used by Hollywood more.
I am shocked at the fact that film might go under watched unless it has already got the hype that I might have missed. This has to be one of the best script, screenplay, direction and surely the best twist. I unfortunately have a very specific taste and types in movies that I like and I loved loved it
one of the best comedy movie of vijay sethupathi ,must watch is "naduvula konjam pakkatha kaanom" . after first 10 minutes the whole film is "thriller comedy" and its a true story of the director of the movie . thats my first vijay sethupathi movie i watched . i didnt know any of the actors in that movie and its low budget but today all of them have established themselve in film industry .please watch along again the movie is available in youtube but there are no subtitles . you need to download the movie and english subtitles seperately online and mix it in vlc player.the title itself is difficult to translate naduvula(in between) konjam(little) pakkatha(nearby) kaanom(lost). the movie is about short term memory loss
Pakkatha is page... title translates to few pages are missing in the middle (of the book)
* cameraman
They shd add subtitle for this film n release ppl will go crazy laughing
Basil Joseph is a director that turned Actor(Director: Minnal Murali, Actor: Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Joji)
Also by the way kani(actress from Biriyani) was not at iffla. She just acted in the short film. The lady that accepted the award was the director of the short film. So you didn't miss her 😅
Ibe seen enough Korean Films to guess that she was AK's daughter , that's not really original , but it's still great.
Cline Eastwood - Actor / Director
Film's screenplay is not linear and that's not a flaw, it makes this movie even more intresting.
Sanjay Manhjrekar is a HUGE example of an AMAZING Hindi DIRECTOR that later acted phenomenally under other directors.
In "WANTED", you will HATE him as a really bad inspector (villain).
He acted brilliantly in 'SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE" and " OMG". You would love watching him play a different character in 'KAANTEY'.
Some of his best movies as a director are: VAASTAV, ASTITVA, CITY OF GOLD.
As a director, he was the one who gave SANJAY DUTT his Gangster image (for "VAASTAV" & "HATHYAAR").
He was nominated several times for his different roles, as best director and best writer as well.
My apology,. He is Mahesh Manjrekar. Not Sanjay Manhjrekar.
In Bollywood, perhaps Anurag and Farhan Akhtar alone come to mind. In Tamil cine industry there are several examples of very good directors also being great actors.
1. BHARATHIRAJA. He played Dhanush's grandfather in Thiruchitrambalam. A renowned director in the 70s-90s.
2. SASIKUMAR. Directed the phenomenal Subramaniapuram that won a National award. Anurag Kashyap mentions him in Gangs of Wasseypur. Sasikumar's movies as an actor are superb.
3. CHERAN. Four time national award winner as a director. Pretty decent actor as well.
4. BHAGYRAJ. Famous for directing and starring in his own movies which were hilarious comedies in the 80s and 90s.
5. PARTHIBAN. National award winning director. Brilliant actor. You need to watch his movie "Otha Seruupu Size 7" in which he's the only actor in the entire movie. Charlie Chaplin has done that before but as a comedy, whilst this one is a thriller with just 1 actor.
How did you not include SJ Suryah in the list. He's not just an actor but a hero as well.
And also there's GVM
I just watched the film. But, come on.. you couldn't think of a movie where a guy who seeks revenge screw his kid??
If you haven't then you must watch that film. It's Korean film called "Old boy" later they remaked it in Hollywood.
The only difference is that in that film protagonist met with that fate. Here antagonist faces it.
I'm not saying that they copied it or anything. It's original. But, the revenge part is definitely inspired from "Old boy".
Rick n korbin if you guys haven't seen that film I'd highly recommend you guys to watch that movie. It's so good!! Especially that hallway fight sequence is a masterpiece. Korbin would definitely love the brutal action sequences.
Its not a movie fir you guys you cant even understand what lakshmi means ....
Can any one tell me which film they were talking about after kill when they were lisiting best indian film so far at 20:54
I mean I never heard anything about undercurrent??? Is that a indian film??
It's a Malayalam movie called 'Ullozhukku', which means Undercurrent.
@@Subesh100 Thanks they should have mentioned its a malayalam film😄
Sweeney Todd was one such movies where the villain victimised his own child. But this film has hit a different level. Sweeny Todd remains in its place, a forever classic.
13:42 it was taken from Korean film OLDBOY (2003)
No
@@amitmaurya6179 he changed it a little to prevent copyright strikes
The end scene was taken from Korean movie old boy and it remade in 2006 in hindi zinda staring Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham the movie did well Sanjay Dutt performance was gud i would suggest u guys should watch both of these movies
Exactly. I felt it too.😂They intentionlly changed it little bit to suite the indian audiences that's why the main villain donot rap☆ the girl.
About the director casting in other films, we have GVM( Gawtham Menon). He is very famous. Also SJ Suriya, he is the best.
Wasn't Lal also more of a director In Malayalam in earlier days and now mainly an actor
Bharathiraja, Bhagyaraj, parthiban are directors became actor
SJ Suryah also.. these guys just are not aware of so many things yet.. they will get there some day..
KSR
Upendra is director turned actor but he is best director of all time in Indian cinema
It is masterpiece . What u guys think . I think editing is intentional and its good❤❤
The twist was obvious half way through the movie. Same twist in a few other movies too. But the execution was good.
Rajat kapoor(director of Ankhon Dekhi) is one of the best director who is also a great actor.....🙌🙌
The twist is inspired from mother of twists movie, Oldboy (korean)
Yessir
The twist in Oldboy was even more f*ed up 😂
@@sauceontoes3457 it keeps getting worse till the end 😂😂😂

10/10 movie 🥶🥶🥶
You should watch Malayalam film IRRATA of joju george... Something similar
They did a year ago.
I did not sit and watch this movie. I was bit away doing chores and watching at the same time. Anyway, I did not understand lot of nuances. It was one of the better movies of the year for sure though. I agree.
React to #Mahaan and #Jigarthada part 1 movies from Kollywood.
They already watched jigarthanda 1. They didn’t like it so they stopped midway.
The film is superb. But But....Tamil films refuse to come out of anti sanatan syndrome. While all the Hindu characters are grey including the main lead....the super white, no flaws, doodh ki dhuli character is named Asifa. the film goes out of the way to show her as a devout muslim, and also brings her mother to the Hospital....strecthing the agenda. Also the 1st scene needlessly places a larger than life OM on the killer truck.
The flawless characterisation of Asifa reminds me of the Rahim Chacha syndrome Urduwood has imposed on Hindus of North India for 70 years.
Arey, do not bring religion into everything.
classic north indian comment😂😂
What hindu . What sanatan.... Omg what a bizzare comment... What it has to do with hindu or religion
SS Rajamoli Cameos, Director turned into actor
Then what about K.S.Ravikumar?
You guys watched lapataa ladies. Where is the review🥲
Happy 4th of July boys❤❤❤
It reminded me of the Korean movie Old Boy though
When I think about the ending twist.you guys say never felt like that in other movies...but one movie have same feeling but not 💯...I think THE OLDBOY the ending is i have same feeling but not 💯...The Oldboy is kind of you don't wanna watch... because it's best in cinima but you don't want watch again...never ever....
Manivannan is the professional director turnd director
Anurag kashyap as villain wasn't that impactful...they should have casted someone like nawajuddin, jaydeep.anurag is good actor but he has limitations

Orson Welles is one director and an actor
Tigmanshu dhulia is a director turned actor
Someone got a free pass to slap and punch with premium sound effects, like others drop 'f-bombs'. Another overhyped South Indian film, another colossal letdown. Aattam was so good that everything else from the Tamil and Telugu industry now feels like punishment. Telugu never appealed to me, and now Tamil joins my 'not sure if I will try' list.
The film's gratuitous and self-justified violence, especially the endless slaps and punches, was like watching a violent TikTok reel on repeat. The tone was as confused as a chameleon in a bag of Skittles, blending serious and humorous moments with all the grace of a drunk ballerina. Throw in the inappropriate use of r**e for plot twists, and engaging with this mess was impossible. Even Vijay Sethupathi's strong performance couldn't save the film from its manipulative presentation, unnecessary gore, and non-linear narrative.
What could have been a cohesive story felt more like a collection of artificial and overly dramatic scenes stitched together by someone who just discovered nonlinear storytelling on TH-cam. The filmmakers pulled out all the stops to trick viewers into thinking they were watching a smart screenplay, but it was ultimately riddled with plot holes and convenient twists. It’s as if they decided to throw logic out the window and hoped we wouldn’t notice amidst the chaos.
I'm sticking with Malayalam for now😌 thanks
Yeah stick to cringe fests like avesham.
