Mountain life in the Western Carpatian Mountains is where our "Hootzools" live. They are generally known to be a very independent, yet wise and a colorful, charming people. There, I've had the best Chevre ("Brynza") Goat Cheese anywhere. My favorite place to visit is the Mineral Spring Spas at Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk, UA. *I am proud to say my father's family is Hootzool. SLAVA UKRAINYI!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇦🇨🇦

I'm Slavic,not Ukranian and understood the prayers,first one is The Lord's prayer and the second is to Virgin Mary I believe it's called Hail Mary in English. I agree though,it would be nice to learn more about life in general and traditions.

I’m here in America, Colorado to be precise and I don’t know her language but while she was praying I closed my eyes and could only imagine her words. I’ve got a feeling there were some words asking that the troubles in this world be over and that those away from home be returned as soon as possible. (I actually had tears in my eyes.) I enjoyed watching the preparation of the different dishes; my mother-in-law used to prepare a version of them when she my girls were young and I remember some of the symbolism. Very enjoyable, thank you Maria.
It is fascinating to see the different cultures. Children going from door to door singing carols are very different from our experience. What a treat Maria shared with those little boys! How amazing to see Maria working in that beautiful white dress. I would never tend a fire dressed like that, I would end up with soot all over me...hehe. Я зі Львова, у нас на Святвечір : вареники з картоплі і капусти, голубці з рисом і грибами, з гречкою, риба смажена, гриби мариновані, квасоля з часником, борщ з грибними вушками, підлива з білих грибів, домашній хліб, пампушки, узвар! А на Різдво - обов'язково домашня ковбаса, шинка, кров'янка, випічка. А Вертеп який цього року був! Наша молодь неймовірна! І хлопці з фронту цьогоріч приїхали. Дай Боже й іншим воїнам відчути Дух Різдва!

I am 2nd generation American from Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, and Russian grandparents and I am afraid we have lost so much of the old ways and foods. I have passed a little on to my (now grown) children. I miss my own parents this holiday season but watching this greatly warms my heart. And how I love cabbage!!! I feel the same way, my paternal grandparents can from Switzerland 🇨🇭. Since my aunt passed away we don't make any of the holiday treats. So this year I decided to embrace my swiss heritage. My cousins sent me about 10 Christmas cookie recipes, my grandmother's were all written in Swiss German. My maternal side have been in America for many generations, however we do have so family traditions passed down. My parents, aunts and uncles are all gone, so it is up to my generation to pass them on. My wish and prayers for you and Ukraine is peace.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Tradition is what keeps the culture alive. As a little girl I remember helping my mother cook our traditional dishes and pastries and we used to implement all the customary traditions. Maria thank you for showing me these beautiful traditional foods. My Baba Sophia and her mother before her would have cooked the same dishes using the same methods. When I see your hands I see my Baba's making the same movements. As a second generation Canadian it gives me great joy to watch it all being prepared and to remember. Glory to Ukraine!
I moved to the states when I was 5 in 93, even at that age I have so many fond memories of going to my grandparents village! This just gives me the most sever flashbacks of how much I loved it there! Especially winter, even now when I get that certain winter smell I'm immediately transported back to Mykhal'che, God bless you for the memories and God bless the Ukrainian people!

I enjoyed watching the preparation of the different dishes; my mother-in-law used to prepare a version of them when she my girls were young and I remember some of the symbolism. Very enjoyable, thank you Maria.

It is fascinating to see the different cultures. Children going from door to door singing carols are very different from our experience. What a treat Maria shared with those little boys! How amazing to see Maria working in that beautiful white dress. I would never tend a fire dressed like that, I would end up with soot all over me...hehe. The dishes looked beautiful, and the simple way Maria dressed the table looked so elegant. Thank you for another beautiful video. Keep safe Maria and enjoy your festivities ❤👩🦽

Я зі Львова, у нас на Святвечір : вареники з картоплі і капусти, голубці з рисом і грибами, з гречкою, риба смажена, гриби мариновані, квасоля з часником, борщ з грибними вушками, підлива з білих грибів, домашній хліб, пампушки, узвар! А на Різдво - обов'язково домашня ковбаса, шинка, кров'янка, випічка. А Вертеп який цього року був! Наша молодь неймовірна! І хлопці з фронту цьогоріч приїхали. Дай Боже й іншим воїнам відчути Дух Різдва!

I am 2nd generation American from Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, and Russian grandparents and I am afraid we have lost so much of the old ways and foods. I have passed a little on to my (now grown) children. I miss my own parents this holiday season but watching this greatly warms my heart. And how I love cabbage!!! I feel the same way, my paternal grandparents can from Switzerland 🇨🇭. Since my aunt passed away we don't make any of the holiday treats. So this year I decided to embrace my swiss heritage. My cousins sent me about 10 Christmas cookie recipes, my grandmother's were all written in Swiss German. My maternal side have been in America for many generations, however we do have so family traditions passed down. My parents, aunts and uncles are all gone, so it is up to my generation to pass them on. My wish and prayers for you and Ukraine is peace.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Tradition is what keeps the culture alive. As a little girl I remember helping my mother cook our traditional dishes and pastries and we used to implement all the customary traditions. Things have changed here in the west…

I moved to the states when I was 5 in 93, even at that age I have so many fond memories of going to my grandparents village! This just gives me the most sever flashbacks of how much I loved it there! Especially winter, even now when I get that certain winter smell I'm immediately transported back to Mykhal'che, God bless you for the memories and God bless the Ukrainian people!
