One comment on the gold. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't trade it any time you want for 5 coins, as you suggest at 17:38. You can USE it as 5 coins, but you won't get change. So it can be used to pay off 5 coins worth of debt or 5 coins worth of an auction, but if you use it to pay off 3 coins worth of an auction you won't get 2 coins in return.
it's been awhile, but as i recall, you only take debt chits when you're trying to pay for something (anything) and you don't have enough money on hand. that's the only time you can do it, so when you win an auction, or you pay sallaries, or what have you, at that moment, if you need money and you're out, take the debt chit (and the monty) then :)
I always thought this game looked dry, but man.. Now I am in love with it and can't find it anywhere. Oh, the agony of discovering new gems.

It looks like this is out of print anyway but, could you add a second dummy player and play this solo? Like how Fleet does it. Would that work?
i would think so. tbh i wouldn't be surprised if riddle & pinchback took inspiration from this game for the fleet solo variant :)

Question: do you have to take the loan out before winning the bid, if you don't win the bid you don't need the money?
