Give us just a "slice" of happiness than a mountain of success

Chris, I was always intrigued by how so many people in our entire world idolize these corporate creations: Actors, athletes, recording artists etc. are basically promoted, corporate investments. The recording industry, the motion picture industry, the sports industry create these "celebrities" that so many of us feel a need to worship. Trying to understand the psycology behind why we buy a $100 sneaker with someone else's name on it (for example) is fascinating to me. Celebrity endorsements, Movie Stars, Teen Idols...lol!! It's all about making money. TH-cam....Now there's another topic to discuss...lol!!

Yeah great point. I do think as humans we’re in that period of time in our development of celebrity culture.
I really think in the future it won’t be as bad. Social status is still one of Maslow hierarchy of needs, so it may be there a bit,
But worshipping celebrities won’t as much in the future as we evolve.
I know this because when I’ve ever talked to really wise and evolved people, they just don’t care about views, celebrities etc. They see everyone as the same, and they value people irrespective of what social status they have or what they’ve ‘achieved’

    1. Could be said slightly better but Christopher identifies the primary problem with celebrity mental illness - the loss of standard of personal mental weights and measures - or what we mean by 'staying grounded'. This produces mind and emotions that are circumstantially (externally) regulated, rather than internally regulated - the opposite of mindfulness. 2. The second is a lifetime of attention seeking combined with image projection - teaching you to maximize validation from others - again, the opposite of mindfulness. 3. The third is the demand of creating an inventory of emotions that you can switch between and express deeply and visibly - the opposite of what produces abrahamic, buddhist, or stoic 'mindfulness'.

Please add “Hedonic Treadmill” in your title, so that more people can find this video. Because this is something very important and I always discuss it with people, but hardly anyone knows about it. People need to understand how baseline happiness keeps reaching new highs/lows and that becomes our new normal. It is an infinite ladder. So no point in chasing

Mental health had never been a thing for me until recently (not a celebrity though) .... The adaptation issue is real. Thank you for this video Christopher. 😊

I just experienced this. Was offered a great buy out to retire. Sounded great but 2 days later I felt bummed. So I didn't do it. This actually made me realize how good I got it.

Damn, and here I thought that successful people who 'have it all' were extremely happy. I mean, I thought their wealthy luxurious lifestyle was what they wanted. They can afford the best of the best, etc.

Herdonic Adaptation hmmm...... I always called it just being bored. People achieve so much then they become bored so, they have to keep pushing the envelope into weirder and weirder territories in order to kill that boredom. No one is ever content where they are and media pushes us to always pursue more. We have to learn to be content and express thankfulness and realize that we are blessed wherever we land in life. ✌

Passion does not pay the bills. This is as delusional as the celebrity world I’m afraid.
