  • A few weeks ago Chris drove from Canberra to Tumut Via the Brindabella road. This is a great option for anyone in a 4WD or anyone looking to get off the Hume Highway. It's a beautiful drive!

    What a bloody great video. Very informative. I'm gonna take my new ADV bike for a cruise to Tumut via this road now. Cheers!

    It doesn’t save in time but it’s about 50km shorter. Got to watch out for the trail bikes coming the other way as some of them ride like it’s there own private track. There’s some 4wd drivers that have the same opinion so keep your eyes open and the speed down. Excellent video, thanks. Stuart, Canberra.

    Drove motorhome along this route accidently thanks to gps error.
    Road in shocking condition.lots of corrugated sections..42 km in mostly poor driving condition.Took 4 hrs,down to 30kpm in some sections..Tom must have driven it when it was just graded.

      Hi Brian. A motorhome could be a little slow going. It's recently had quite a bit of work done to the gravel road sections and wouldn't be an issue for most vehicles now. Take it easy and enjoy the scenery!

      @@TomsOutdoors I went to Brindabella a week ago. The dirt on the ACT side is pretty rough (has been for years). NSW side was better and evidence that they're working on it. I don't think the ACT gov cares too much about it. I have seen it worse, and also better but not for a long time.

    nice road, great scenery. hopefully one day they asphalt the entire stretch from Canberra, It would be a major economic benefit for tourism in Tumut

      I was thinking of going from Wagga to Canberra via that road but I'll be towing a caravan and the dirt part looks narrow.

    • @darylkizer
      @darylkizer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@The_Resistance_1961 There are some narrow bits that would be difficult with a larger caravan. You'd be fine until you meet a car coming the other way on a narrow section, and then I don't know what you'd do.

      @@darylkizer Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Middle of the night might be OK. No traffic.

    Could you do this drive in a motor home in dry conditions

    • @TomsOutdoors
      @TomsOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Peter, I would not recommend the drive in a motor home. While the road surface is good and you can transit the road in a car, there are sections of the road that are narrow. The width of a motor home or towing a caravan would be a hazard to yourself and oncoming vehicles should you meet on a narrow section. -Chris

    Looking to do this in an AWD Kia Sorento. Should be fine?

      Depending on the weather it should be ok.
