Screaming Firehawks!!! What a start to S3 - no idea how i missed this while editing but after further review, it's clear that Mei was alive at the end of S2 - Her eyes were open and she closes them.
„Cant take the razorback“ As you seemed to have missed it: yes, this was indeed Julie as its her ship, the „Razorback“. Miller found a message from Julie where she said to her father that he can’t take the razorback. Miller continously heard it when he was on Eros to save Earth.

Cotyar's relationship with Avarsarala is more like a godson and godmother. They both regret their own responsibilities in Charapal Avsarala's death. They just have strong personality that clashes with each other and too much pride. Cotyar is trying to fill in the role of his best friend and look out for Avasarala and likewise, Avasarala quietly followed Cotyar's life like a mother with her estranged son. Team ABC (Avasarala, Bobby and Cotyar) is awesome.
Welcome to the "What! That can't be the ending! We need more!"-season of The Expanse where every cliffhanger is more painful than the one before. Guess we all will find out soon what other words you know beyond "intense" and "insanse". The first two seasons were the overture. Season three is the opera.
This was by far one of the longest weeks I can ever remember waiting for the next episode. I love weekly episodic episodes, but man did this show put me through the ringer waiting for the next one.
"The first two seasons were the overture. Season three is the opera." That's damn well put. Season 3 is the single best season of television I've ever seen.
Just a heads up about your comment of "running out of gas". Remember in space there is no air to provide resistance, so as long as it has fuel, it will continue accelerating, but when it runs out of fuel, it won't slow down, it just won't accelerate. It will continue traveling at the same speed in the same direction until an outside force acts upon it, whether it's an asteroid, a planet, or something else.
One thing about the time jumps...even in the earlier seasons they were there, subtle, but there. You kind of have to take into account that space travel isn't fast and the distance between all of these places. So even though the story may seem completely boom boom boom in the way it's told...it's not happening that way.
Remember on Eros when Amos voted to let the Eros Belters come with them when he saw the little girl? Amos always votes to save a child. Yes, that was Julie's image they saw as they climbed into the racing ship. That was Julie's ship, the Razorback. Although Johnson has always had a strategic mindset, we haven't seen him do anything underhanded or dishonorable. He's always been straightforward.
The Arboghast came apart like an exploded diagram or schematic... the protomolecule pulled it apart straight down to the nuts and bolts just to see how it fit together, how it worked.
They knew the Nauvoo's position, direction, and speed (and I don't recall whether it was thrusting, but if it was they knew its specs - they _built_ the damn thing - and how much fuel it had, so they'd know it's acceleration and for how long it'd keep accelerating), so unless it got too close to something massive enough finding out its position would be relatively simple maths.
Also, if you look at the computer display in s2x5, the Nauvoo was on a curved course. Its flight program would have shut the drive down at point-of-impact, so it's just been drifting on an elliptical path all this time. All they have to do is figure its current location and cut across the ellipse. Catching up won't be a problem.
@@TheDetailsMatter you're right about the drive shutting off when it missed Eros, but I don't think it's necessarily in an elliptical orbit; in the books it is mentioned that it is in deep space; perhaps further than any human has gone before and come back from (sorry Epstein but you don't count). It's mentioned that the mission to retrieve the Nauvoo will take two months of hard burn with all passengers strapped into crash couches the whole way just to catch up with the ship, not even counting the time to turn the Nauvoo around and bring it back
I think Prax just needed it to get close enough that he could look it in the eye and see that it wasn't his daughter, or even human anymore. That's as sure as he could hope to get.
I love how much I hate Errinwright; he's such a conniving little shit, but he really does believe that he's doing the right thing, and that from his perspective mentor, Chrisjen, betrayed him first. He's one of several supporting characters who is infinitely better in the show than their book counterparts (the other main one being Ashford)
One of my favorite lines from the books, that did not make it into the show is when Avarsarela tells Cotyar to get Bobbie a gun, and she replies, "If you give me a gun, I'm a bodyguard. With my suit, I'm a god-damned superhero."
The Monster In The Barbecue. Yes, the Protomolecule feeds on energy, but there is such a thing as too much. Our bodies are 97% water, but we can still drown. Proto-Gollum was forcefed a crap ton of nuclear fusion in less than a second (slow-motion video notwithstanding). He (she?) is now a cloud of blue ashes drifting harmlessly through the void.
If you didn't catch it, the ship Christian & Bobbi left in is Juloe Mao's racing ship. In the ep when Miller finds Julie you can hear her saying, "You can't catch the Razorcrest!" When she was guiding Eros towards Earth, she though she was flying in her ship...A great forshadow for the ship.
I love your reactions, as always ^^ Nikki, after watching you for two seasons I can finally see you getting all emotional. I mean, you really start to love this show ^^ You know, the person who introduced me to The Expanse was my husband. He literally forced me to watch first four episodes. Then I watched the show on my own, and after season 3 it was me who was the true fan of The Expanse in our family. And things stay like this until now. The next episode is one of my favourites, I hope you'll enjoy it. Take care you two!
The Nauvoo more than likely stopped accelerating after Eros ducked it. It was meant to slam into Eros at a calculated point in space so there's no sense in programming it to accelerate beyond it. It's going fast for sure, but it's just coasting. The Belters can easily catch it.
Remember how the comment section has been talking nonstop about acceleration and its effects for the duration of this show? Let's keep doing that! They measure acceleration in G:s, which is pretty simple. One G is one Earth gravity, because gravity is a type of acceleration. So when you accelerate in your car your car you are being pushed into your car seat with a few percentages of a G. So you are being accelerated toward the center of the Earth by 1 G at all times. You can counter this acceleration by just standing up, because humans are built to live under 1 G. If you are accelerating at 1 G it is like being on earth, with up being whatever direction you are accelerating in, which is fine. If you are accelerating at 2 G that effectively means that you weigh twice as much. You can think of it like another you sitting or laying on top of you at all times. That's maybe not comfortable, but having someone of your body mass sit on your shoulders or lay down on top of you is not exactly going to hurt you. You can't live your entire life like that, but we're clearly not in dangerous territory yet. At 3 G it is like having TWO people of your exact weight sitting on your shoulders or laying down on you at all times. Pretty heavy, but you won't die. At 4 G, it would be impossible to stand up. In May this year one of those Icelandic monster men broke the world deadlift record, deadlifting 1104 pounds. With him weighing 425 pounds that is the equivalent of him standing up lifting nothing in 3.6 G. Most people would of course be unable to stand up far before this, but by this point you would be shattering world records by just standing up. Still wouldn't kill you though. 5 G is the point where people start passing out. Your blood will start pooling in whatever part of your body is facing "down". Do not accelerate at 5 G for too long! At 10 G your body is fast approaching the weight of an average car. Every heartbeat will have to lift 10 times as much blood, every breath requires your lungs to lift a very considerable weight. Amazingly, for someone in decent shape you will still survive, but older or physically weaker people may die outright and no one can survive this for very long. ...And so on. Aren't you glad that Bobbie and Avasarala got on that racing ship that can accelerate really, really fast? Also, the plot is accelerating at a reckless amount of G:s. And can everyone agree that we will deal with deceleration... later?
Love this episode! Love this season! You made some good observations Steven. Holden is definitely a lot more centered now and I love how subtle his whole journey has been. Chrisjen & Bobbie have such a great dynamic. And Errinwright is not your favorite huh? 😂
It’s not a coincidence that Bobbie’s suit reminds you of Iron Man. The creators of The Expanse TV show, Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby, wrote the script for the first Iron Man movie.
The crazy thing is there was no light delay between the protomolecule hybrid getting burned up in the Roci's drive plume, the protomolecule disassembling the ship on Venus, and the "shout" on Io. These places are really far away and light and thus any communication should take dozens of minutes to travel between Venus, the Roci, and Io.
Lightspeed delay affects radio transmissions. If you remember the Drake Equation discussion back in s2, Iturbe brings up the possibility that alien life might use different means of communication.
What the television show struggles to convey is the communications lag-time caused by how long it takes for light to cross the immense distances in our solar system, and how the proto-molecule appears to be in instantaneous contact, violating the laws of relativity doing so.
The ship is the Razorback, the racing ship Julie made her name with, and the same that her father wanted to sell if she did not returned ( the scene with her recording coming on ...got me)
25:19 “This isn’t about you.” I had been waiting for Holden (or freaking anyone) to say that to Naomi for 3 seasons. By the end of the series, it seems she got it… but damn it took that character a long time (and she had to go through a lot of shit), to finally get there.
Kyle Voltti ...to season 3 episode 2! Seriously, I can guess what you mean, but there’s so many great bits in this season I’m looking forward to every episode
That was Julie Mao's ship, the Razorback. Nothing like a fast girl with a fast car. The ABC (Avasarala, Bobbie, Cotyar) team was fun while they lasted. Now its just A&B. If Chrisjen cant talk her way through it,👄 Bobbie can get the point across🔫👊🏻
Season three is my favorite season there are so many great episodes I can’t wait to see your reaction to them it’s gonna be a great twist and turn as it goes
I don't know if you remember when automobile repair manuals (and other engineering manuals) would do "exploded diagrams" of a piece of hardware showing you what all of the parts were and where they went in relationship to each other. That was what I thought of, immediately when I saw the Arboghast being dismantled.
Book 2 ends at episode 6. Watch 5 & 6 together if you can. The writers knew cancellation by SyFy was possibly coming so packed all of book three into episodes 7 to 13 and the show is the better for it. Hitch your tits and pucker up, here comes the juice 🚀
If you think this episode was full speed ahead just wait. This is about warp 2, we’re about to hit warp 9 and keep the hammer on the floor. Seriously the best season of any show I’ve ever watched.
It's actually incredibly easy to find things in space if you know where they set off from and what the curvature of the turn (if any), because you can't exactly just take hard turns, it will be super gradual, and if they knew it was going in a straight line, they know exactly how far it could get by using some pretty simple math
Bobbie's quote "Hitch your tits and pucker up, it's time to peel the paint" might be the best quote in the series so far. There's a better one in a later episode this season. I am really looking forward to you seeing Season 3. It's the best one, IMO. I've watched it a dozen times.
I already can't wait for next Thursday! Next episode (I think) has one of my favorite space combat/tactic moments in the entire series. And oh yeah, season 3 does not slow down! You're in for one hell of a r̶i̶d̶e̶ high-G burn!
I'm surprised there wasn't more reaction from the Mormon Church when the Nauvoo was taken over by the OPA. Have they no financial levers they can pull?
Fred Johnson has commented once or twice that he's in a lot of trouble with them. Do you really think the Mormon reaction is important enough to the plot to justify giving it more attention? What scenes from this season would you choose to cut so we could see a court battle between Tycho/OPA and the Mormon's?
The Mormon Church spent so much money on the Nauvoo, they barely had anything left for lawyers and court fees. Hence why a long, slow court battle ensues.
Busybodies jumping to telling you how to watch future episodes should be ignored. Watch them the way the were made to be watched and on your own time. Enjoyed the reaction as usual!
Agreed. As much as I despise him, I'm utterly convinced his ultimate loyalty is to Earth. It's just that his judgment of what will best serve Earth and what risks, what betrayals, and what horrors are worth it to keep Earth in a position of power is a terrible sight to behold.
Guys. If you have any kind of blood pressure issues or heart condition you should maybe consult your doctor before watching the rest of season 3. Steve - That's where you leave us? Every Screaming Firehawk - um, get comfortable with cliffhangers, dude... Season 3 of The Expanse is hands down my favorite season of any TV series, all time. No contest. Not even close. Your heads are gonna explode. Oh, and this episode started with my also all-time favorite opening shot of any season of any show, ever. Perfect.
They are letting their anger at Naomi take over from what she’s saying. In the books, there was no drama about the sample. They gave it to Fred without any reservations. I’m not sure which I like better.
Yeah I think the stuff with Fred in the show feels a little like manufactured drama to fill out the running time. I guess episodes need to have a structure with the A plot and B plot or whatever with enough for each actor to do.
In television, as you know, it's really tough to condense several books into short episodic shows. I think stuff being changed tends to come from that just to try to keep some continuity and to keep a steady pace. I'm not of a mindset that books or novels always get things 100% right. I didn't necessarily have an issue with how Naomi's passion for the belt is being used. I think it maybe confused people because it seems to shift almost over night. Well I don't think it did, but do think it got hurried along due to storytelling time restraints.
Keep your arms and legs inside of the vehicle at all times. This ride only get more and more exciting. The end of book 2 are episodes 5 & 6, I think. Best Sci-Fi show period!
As far as I understand it, Eros was not exactly in the asteroid belt to begin with. It was somewhere in the zone of inner planets. Hence why it was only a short distance towards Earth, and why Venus was a convenient alternative. When the Nauvoo missed Eros, they simply shut down its engines and it drifted. So it was still well within the Solar System when they needed it again.
that part when she was on the hull of the ship, i think she should have gone spiraling away into space after the first knock lol. i don't think she would have bounced like that or gone in a straight line back wards along the hull. that's one of the less realistic things i noticed that was done to push the story forward rofl. also who did it best. cersei lannister? or erinwright? who manipulated better, who was more diabolical, who was smarter? and who achieved better results?
This show is so amazing! Glad yall are enjoying it! Hold on tight. It just keeps cranking up from here on out! P.S. please watch and react to The Expanse Crack by yanheda! It's so well done and so funny!
Screaming Firehawks!!! What a start to S3 - no idea how i missed this while editing but after further review, it's clear that Mei was alive at the end of S2 - Her eyes were open and she closes them.
Season 3 is where the fun begins in my opinion. You can tell the budget was raised for season 3, and just wait for season 4 :)
As Bobbie perfectly put it in this episode, "Hitch your Tits and Pucker up!!" Season 3 is a WILD RIDE!!!
I hate to be that person but @4:45 things happen by accident, not on accident
Great season upcoming

This is the worst episode of the season, too. Strap in.
The razorback: julie and her beloved ship defying and frustrating her father, even after death. I love that symbolism!

you are in for one hell of a ride this season. buckle up.
"It was like full blast the whole episode."
No, the whole season. :-p
Season 3 is my personal favorite of the four out so far!
Lollll awesome blossom!! That was great! :)
This season is starting of great
Errinwright is the Littlefinger of The Expanse.
And Chrisjen the Varys.
Littlefinger in ambition, but much dumber.
Another great episode! Great reactions and great discussion!! I can't wati for the rest of the season!
Stay safe and be well!
It's actually incredibly easy to find things in space if you know where they set off from and what the curvature of the turn (if any), because you can't exactly just take hard turns, it will be super gradual, and if they knew it was going in a straight line, they know exactly how far it could get by using some pretty simple math
Haha they’ve finally made it to season 3! Buckle up folks!
Great reaction, N&S. You're going to *love* this season.
Welcome to season 3, it's like this all season!
Bobbie's quote "Hitch your tits and pucker up, it's time to peel the paint" might be the best quote in the series so far. There's a better one in a later episode this season. I am really looking forward to you seeing Season 3. It's the best one, IMO. I've watched it a dozen times.
Season 3 is definitely my favourite so far. I remember wanting to watch the next episode everytime.
I already can't wait for next Thursday! Next episode (I think) has one of my favorite space combat/tactic moments in the entire series.
And oh yeah, season 3 does not slow down! You're in for one hell of a r̶i̶d̶e̶ high-G burn!
That's a little bit of a spoiler, but I guess not tough to see coming. 🤔
They put a spoiler in episode sevens opening credit scene, dumb dumbs, jump past it at all costs.
Blame it on the union lol
I mean, even telling them to skip the opening credits could be a spoiler if they're smart enough
27:02 Fun fact, Bobbie's armor was made by the same folks that did the iron man armor
Holdens equation about protomolecule. events is a HUGE reveal. Remember it.
Dave Dahl What equation?
The word of the day is: "Knolling."
Busybodies jumping to telling you how to watch future episodes should be ignored. Watch them the way the were made to be watched and on your own time. Enjoyed the reaction as usual!
Love him or hate him Errinwright is one of the best characters
Agreed. As much as I despise him, I'm utterly convinced his ultimate loyalty is to Earth. It's just that his judgment of what will best serve Earth and what risks, what betrayals, and what horrors are worth it to keep Earth in a position of power is a terrible sight to behold.
Probably one of my favorite episodes in this series.
Can't wait for Thursday!!!
Keep your arms and legs inside of the vehicle at all times. This ride only get more and more exciting. The end of book 2 are episodes 5 & 6, I think. Best Sci-Fi show period!
Strap in! So good...
Next episode is probably the most intense thing i have seen oN TV
This season is the real deal. You'll need the juice for this ride.
cannot wait for the next two episodes - they're by far two of my favorites. Episode 2 is definitely top 3 episodes though
My favourite season.
Hope you guys enjoy season 3!
They never lost (control of) the Nauvoo. It never even went very far
Yeah, this is the best season.
yo be honest i don't know how you guys could stand it i binged this in 1 day and you guys can wait
This show is so amazing! Glad yall are enjoying it! Hold on tight. It just keeps cranking up from here on out! P.S. please watch and react to The Expanse Crack by yanheda! It's so well done and so funny!
OMG Steven. “Hub”. You just you wait!
You've made it to season 3! Now hold on to your trousers!
This season is INCREDIBLE, fasten your seatbelts, you're in for a ride!!
