Wow, Gibson took a major turn and screwed themselves, the neck-through design was the one thing that made the Firebirds special, absolutely no reason to get one of these oddball rejects.
Agreed, the neck thru was what was special about them. And we know this is just to not spend on long straight uniform boards and to use up shorter pieces. This is an affront to the dignity of all mankind.
I can’t think of who this is marketed for. The high price, the lack of historic specs, ugly headstock. They’ll probably discontinue this within a couple years. If you want a Firebird, get a used one made right for $2k 😂
@@MiguelMakesMusic I think if Gibson did some cool finish options with these horrible excuse of a Firebird then maybe they would have an appeal but yet they continue with the good ol "traditional" finishes. Like we need another Sunburst Firebird.
The neck trough construction makes a firebird a firebird ... Without it kinda looses its appeal Now the new epiphones (ibG) are even nicer spect than this This was an odd move from Gibson Its like they dont know how to handle the Firebird model (eg. Firebird X, which was also a big fail) They should just do a Standard US version bit more truthfully to historic Specs with necktrough and yes it would cost around 3k, but the ES is also that costly and it still sells ...
That headstock is a deal breaker. Just like the Trini Lopez model, Gibson’s attempts at a Fender style headstock look amateurish and unattractive and ruin the models that are burdened with it. The inspired by Gibson Firebird is better than my 1997 Firebird, both in build quality and pup quality. It’s the way to go if you want a Firebird. Too bad the cool finishes on their Firebird I were not offered on the dual pup model.
THANK YOU I keep saying they need to give explorers more interesting finishes. There’s no need for new body shapes and seeing how expensive Hamers go for there’s a market for maple top explorers.
Idk firebirds are genuinely some of the most beautiful guitars off their silhouette (V, III, I). I think it’s awesome to see these, but the set neck aspect is lame. LP, SG, and firebird are their best solid bodies imo.
Curious, how does it look cheap? Outside of the neck joint, these look like normal firebirds. Which imo, is one of the best solid body guitar designs (at least the V, III, I versions)
The sudden cut freaked me out, lol! Dual non-magnetized rail minis or proper Firebird pups, we can check the resistance readings and the labels to be sure. There are Firebird pups with different Alnico magnets and also ceramic, with label differences. With the non Firebird minis there are Al2, Al5 and Ceramic variants with similar resistances but they have different labels, once you sort which is which it makes sense.

A light colored Rosewood fingerboard is a deal-killer for me, the darker the fingerboard the better.
Awesome that Gibson released the Taylor Swift signature guitars immediately after sending Trump a Cease and Desist. May have been the coolest move I've seen Gibson ever make.
I snagged a '24 Epiphone Firebird. Not the expensive one, but the $700 version. Neck through, raised center, etc. Aside from the electronics, it's hard to tell that it's an Epi. I did drop a maestro style vibrola on it. Plays and sounds amazing.

I had the opportunity to examine additional photos of this guitar on the Bax Music website and compare it to a 2019 USA Firebird. Upon closer inspection, there are a few significant deal-breakers that stand out. First, the guitar lacks the iconic neck-through-body construction that is a hallmark of an authentic Firebird. This design choice is a fundamental characteristic of the original model and greatly contributes to its tone, sustain, and overall appeal. Second, it forgoes the distinctive five-piece laminated neck, which not only adds visual appeal but also enhances the neck's structural stability and resonance. Lastly, the omission of the signature reverse headstock is particularly disappointing, as it’s a defining feature of the Firebird's unique aesthetic and functional design. Given these deviations, I can’t help but feel that this model would have been better suited as an Epiphone release rather than bearing the Gibson name. These compromises make it difficult to see it as a true continuation of the Firebird legacy. In my opinion, this might be one of the most controversial decisions of the Cesar Gueikian era at Gibson so far.
