11:46, the Neck Pickup Shielding solder joint has pulled away from the back case of the Neck volume pot. Beautiful Tribute to Mary Ford. BTW, I believe Mary's original custom ordered Les Paul was heavily weight relieved, thus the promotional photo of her holding the Les Paul guitar on her shoulder, not a normal pose for a woman of slight stature and a +8 lb. guitar.
@Ottophil the reason Les Paul himself said the neck was to movable. Since he has tremendous strength in his hands it felt like it was to weak to him. The name came off at the end of his contract in 1962. Instead of being known as a Les Paul Standard Gibson it reverted to SG shirt for Standard Gibson.
@ he loved the guitar. He was in the middle of a divorce and asked his name to be removed so she couldnt get half. Its well documented. He had no issue with the SG design
It's a cool guitar, and I kinda dig the arm guard. But I feel like the hotter BB 2 & 3s was a poor choice on Gibsons part. Mary and Les were all about super clean tones and underwound pickups. I feel like a set of 57 Classics would have been more appropriate.
@El-Scorcho they're not hot by todays standards. By vintage standards they're fire breathers, and the opposite of what she and Les were going for. So weird choice in her signature guitar.
Even better would have been to produce an underwound Mary Ford Burstbucker pair for the guitar. More in line of what would have been back then with the added benefit of more folks would tend to purchase because of the rarity of a signature very clean lower output pickups set.
That's what's in the original R8 MFLP; and I think in 2024 the BB 2 and 3 are fine...overall its a nice combo. 8.56k in the bridge is nice..once you get over 9K then it gets harsh...and the weight,,almost 10 lbs lets you know your getting a solid body...which is cool..If I didn't bird dog my Old 98 MFLP...I would buy one of these.
thanks for being sure to mention Les Paul's innovations in the multitrack world. too many people believe he invented the solidbody electric and that just isn't true so kudos for mentioning what his main contribution was.
Gorgeous...I think I'll get one 🙂🙂🙂 one thing I like ( even though it's a small detail ) is the oversized strap buttons, for some reason Gibson always uses tiny strap buttons hence people using strap-locks or rubber grommets to secure their strap... Also...At this price Gibson should have paid more attention to the wiring : The neck humbucker's shielded braid is un-soldered ( bad solder joint I guess ) I understand that some guitars can pass through the QC but again this is not a cheap instrument... And while I'm at it I'll have a "Mary Ford" truss rod cover custom-made...Just because...
I'm the guy who put up his 98 MFLP on Reverb....it's an R8 Goldtop Les Paul...great guitar....this is just a standard with the guards and Cherry back...nice combo....but just a cheaper version of the original RI.
Salutations Austin! Very nice Mary Ford Signature Les Paul! It sounds great and I think the special guards on it do serve a functional purpose, and it is a nice feature that the design is actually on the back side of a clear acrylic, which prevents the design from wearing off. Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
That neck profile on this one has the perfect zone specs (widths/depths) that I have found I like best on my Gibson’s. Loving my cherry hog top. Thanks again Trogly
With all the money Gibson makes you would think they could hire a chemical engineer to come up with finishes that don’t crack and polishing compounds that won’t cause haze on the pickups! I worked in the Defense Industry and in a chemical company before that and we never had those kinds of issues!
These are the same pickups that come in my Epiphone Korina Explorer. I love these; they have the perfect growl and are very similar to my Pearly Gates.
It bothers me that Gibson hasn't been able to provide any photos of her original guitar in this style, nor any documents showing she requested it. I really appreciate them celebrating Mary with this guitar, but it feels strange to advertise it as a tribute to a specific instrument with no proof that instrument existed - why not instead something like here 2 pickup SG custom? Or her modified Gold tops with Dynasonic neck pickup and ES 175 Tailpiece?
I wish it was chambered (not weight relieved) like Cloud 9 guitars. 6.7lbs LP is lighter but it also sounds and plays different way. Now it is just a GT with a sixties neck, different pups and with extra pickguard.
A goldtop with slim taper and humbuckers? I'll wait for an Epiphone with Gibson P90's from the Inspired By Customshop series. I'd pay $1499 for one with the openbook headstock and hardcase. Peace!
I like the idea of a celebratory Mary Ford Gibson but this Les Paul doesn't quite hit all the notes. I like that it's a gold top with a 60s neck. The guard floral designs are nice. But no weight relief? And no identification of Mary Ford anywhere seems like a missed opportunity to really "celebrate women". Pickups are at the edge of what's likely appropriate for Mary too.
Sure is a unique Les Paul , it's kinda funny that it's a ' Mary Ford ' signature model yet it's a ' Les Paul ' ( a guitar named after her husband ), I don't know , it's just funny to me , man that sounds amazing! the specs and red back would take some getting used to...Thanks Trogly !
I watched this solely to see if the arm guard was screwed into the top in any way. I love the GT, 60s neck, red back, BB2/3 combo. Gonna wait until I inevitably see one on reverb, under 9 lbs and about 2300 bucks.
Very high quality. Dried out fretboard, parts that damage the finish, hardware that is hazing over. In the control cavity you can see one of the braided wires came loose from the pot's back. Clear finish lifting at one of the trussrod screw holes. Yeah, very high quality. Totally worth $3k.
Question for anyone who has bought a Les Paul Standard. Has anyone actually used the polishing cloth? I've not taken mine out of the bag. Like I don't already have half a dozen polishing cloths just for my guitar. (not saying they shouldn't include it)
That floral pattern is also on a Japanese T-style P90 guitar, the Bruno TN-295 and I've got one (not just because of the name ^^') It's a guitar that's quite popular in japan with a long waiting time. Toshiki Soejima plays one and he's great!
3000 and tax and they still can't include the bandana and the rest of the case candy?😢 I was disappointed it didn't come with anything but like come on.....this is Mary Ford and we gotta pay extra for some cook additions when they should be damn well included.
Seems like a very astro- turfed take just to say Gibson= diversity and women guitar hero revisionism. Mary Ford was a raging alcoholic and the Gibson channel propaganda sells her as an innovator and inventor. Very very generous take on a woman Les Paul despised
11:46, the Neck Pickup Shielding solder joint has pulled away from the back case of the Neck volume pot.
Beautiful Tribute to Mary Ford.
BTW, I believe Mary's original custom ordered Les Paul was heavily weight relieved, thus the promotional photo of her holding the Les Paul guitar on her shoulder, not a normal pose for a woman of slight stature and a +8 lb. guitar.
good catch, keen eye!
My custom shop MFLP 58 RI has a solid body no weight relief,,like any other reissue from the custom shop.
I really like the combination of the gold top with the red mahogany back.
Not even an alternate truss rod cover inscribed with Mary Ford??? What a tribute
Am I the only one with "no p90's" issues?
no you're not.
I'm not having any issues.
Mary is the reason the SG isnt called the les paul anymore
@Ottophil the reason Les Paul himself said the neck was to movable. Since he has tremendous strength in his hands it felt like it was to weak to him. The name came off at the end of his contract in 1962. Instead of being known as a Les Paul Standard Gibson it reverted to SG shirt for Standard Gibson.

Missed opportunity to put Mary’s signature on the headstock face instead of her ex-husbands. 😂
Ceaser Borat Guekian can’t read the room
That would have been something.
It's still a Les Paul model
@@beatmasterbossy Woosh.
Mary could play along with Les no problem, she was a badass guitarista!
those 2 are legends, responsable for so many things we take for granted, Mary could hold her own, One of great woman guitarist with a song bird voice.

My 62 Gibson Byrdland has its original PAF's and they have the same output as the bb2 and 3....Sound Amazing too.
I got one of these to play death metal. Thing hits.
I'm sure that's what Les Paul and Mary Ford had in mind when they were playing/promoting the guitar back then...That said I'd do the same 🤘🤘🤘
thanks for being sure to mention Les Paul's innovations in the multitrack world. too many people believe he invented the solidbody electric and that just isn't true so kudos for mentioning what his main contribution was.
The Gold paint makes the guitar sound good.

The original Guitar or one of them is in the book Beauty of the Burst page 157 for comparison 👍

Sweet guitar! 💛
If they ever sold the pickguard separately, I'd buy one. And I usually favor no pickguard on LP-type guitars.
Les was punching well above his weight getting mary.
That neck profile on this one has the perfect zone specs (widths/depths) that I have found I like best on my Gibson’s. Loving my cherry hog top. Thanks again Trogly
Very cool that you took the time to share the history with today's kids.
Google says the Cutom shop makes 200 guitars a day! Amazing work guys!
I really wish it had her name on the headstock. I don't like P90s myself but I also feel like these should have them
Nice. I prefer the 2 and 3 to the 1 and 2. I had heard that the 2 sounds good in the bridge and the 3 in the neck.
I just got back from the Gibson garage in Nashville they had a whole shelf with a bunch of the Mary Ford guitar
15:30 never expected you to sprinkle in some Metallica in your demos and much less on a Mary Ford LP nice!
I had a 2011 Traditional gold top, that neck was not 50s. Still loved it but neck was on the thinner side.
Love the guitar and Mary Ford
Hey! I have the same shirt. I get lots of complements on it too. Cheers!
An ebony LP with a black and red arm guard and pickguard would be KILLER
With all the money Gibson makes you would think they could hire a chemical engineer to come up with finishes that don’t crack and polishing compounds that won’t cause haze on the pickups! I worked in the Defense Industry and in a chemical company before that and we never had those kinds of issues!
patina
Why would they do that when that's what people want?
Sounds chunky and great! At one point what you played sounded like The Runaways. Beautiful guitar!
Gibson or epiphone needs to bring out the log an use Rob Scallon's video for the pickups
Sounds phenomenal, looks great.
Those Oxford Pennants are top quality. They do a lot of work with bands, should check em out.
These are the same pickups that come in my Epiphone Korina Explorer. I love these; they have the perfect growl and are very similar to my Pearly Gates.
I remember this guitar from an episode of Pawn Stars. Her Nephew brought it in, iirc.
that was the "SG" bodied Les Paul Custom.
I literally just looked this up 10 minutes ago! Crazy timing!
That one actually sounds really good

Can’t believe you missed talking about the dish carve. That’s an incredible carve on that top dude.
Goldtops always show those carves better.
@ this is very true, BUT, not all top carves are created equal either.
@@RussBMCSGT That is true too. Cheers :) Love me a good dish carve.

I really really really love it. Bad luck i'm from Uruguay (we dont have of those)
Can't wait for the Michael Schenker Signature Gibson Flying V!
Not crazy about the arm guard, but it does sound fantastic.
The arm guard reminds me of the banjo armguard in a previous video. A touch of blue grass in a jazz format. 🤔
I prefer wood grain to colors, but at $3000 this is a high quality American made instrumental! USA all the way!
Instrument not instrumental
Very high quality. Dried out fretboard, parts that damage the finish, hardware that is hazing over.

You know i kinda like the looks of the arm guard
I wish Mary Ford would’ve had a les Paul custom I would’ve loved to see that I would’ve paid top dollar for that
The real Mary Ford guitar is white SG and was on Pawn Stars,
It has the Mary Ford look, but not the tone.I still like it.
I'm 21 and Mary Ford and Luther Perkins have been my guitar heroes since I was 4 I'm 21 now
Is the arm guard available in other colours?
call it Orville Redenbacker
I love it. Truly do.
When they get that guitar 🎶 At The Sav-A-Penny Super Store 🎶 i will be interested in that guitar.
Love the pickguard and arm guard, and yes Trogly, it sounded great.
Cool guitar Les Paul ☺️ 🇲🇾🇺🇲👍🕊️🍀
Those pickups are on the mahogany Explorer. The most recent issue.

Need some Mary Ford riffs
The arm rest looks really odd on there, just not used to it. Overall looks like a great guitar.
That floral pattern is also on a Japanese T-style P90 guitar, the Bruno TN-295 and I've got one (not just because of the name ^^')
It's a guitar that's quite popular in japan with a long waiting time. Toshiki Soejima plays one and he's great!

Howdy everyone!!!
It looks anf sounds amazing
I always figured Mary Ford a full saddle mount but there she is on that pendleton flag all half mount?
Awesome
So it’s just a 60s standard gold top that they slapped some guards on and charge a premium for. Got it.
sister rosetta the SG woman
Seems like a very astro- turfed take just to say Gibson= diversity and women guitar hero revisionism. Mary Ford was a raging alcoholic and the Gibson channel propaganda sells her as an innovator and inventor. Very very generous take on a woman Les Paul despised
just me, or is that sitar-ing quite a lot?
If Les Paul & Mary Ford couldn’t make it work, what chance do common slobs like you and me have? Why even try? 🤷♂️
😝
Sounds good… Rich sound… Nice and chimey.
I think Mary Ford would have a headscarf rather than a bandana, young man.
Ford Butter 🧈
….or Ford cholesterol.
Shame they didn't put her name on it...
8:00 You know what is a big deal though? $3,000.00 for this thing.🎸🤦♂️
Mary Ford was dreamy
If you want BB 2&3 get an Epiphone LP 59. The cheaper version.
I always thought Mary Ford played an SG.
2 piece mahogany neck? You meant body, right?
should've called it the Mary Ford, not a Mary Ford Les Paul.
i need an armrest for my les paul "custom" the sharp binding brutalizes my forearm :/ doesn't seem to be an issue on "standard" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
is that her guitar?
It's barely even like her guitar lol. Just another Gibson cash grab.
@@mordokchthanks for responding i am listening to slayer ;p no shit
She’s a beauty, but it’s not a black beauty. It’s just that iconic guitar from 1958.
I definitely think Mary would approve....lol.
They couldn’t include the pennant or bandana lol?
Those pickups sound gorgeous. Now I know what to install next time I buy humbuckers.
They probably just repainted some 60s models that weren’t selling
