I am using Fl Studio Stock plugins but you can use to plugins within your respective DAWS (Ableton, logic, Pro tools) We talk about EQ, Compression, De-essing, Saturation, Reverb, and much more! WOW. What a difference this makes!! My vocals sound so much cleaner and clear whereas before whenever I mixed them they would sound really distorted and I hated that. Thanks for the tutorial!
Do you have the Saturation Knob? Can anyone send me the Saturation knob please???
@@Rob.David_ I dont have that either in stock plugins but i tried to use soundgoodizer instead and it kinda worked for me
AGREED!
When you see a simon servida ad on a simon servida video...
*Simonception*
Are you read this as it happens.
Same thing happened here!
bull cra
An ad for Simons channel on Simons video, right before an ad for Simon in the video XD

Great tutorial. I always refer to this when mixing vocals. Thank you for the knowledge brother. You are helping individual artists and the larger music community, especially those who have to mix themselves! 🔥
I swear all producers be hiding amazing rapping skills😂 WE NEED MORE RAP FROM SERVIDA

I've watched this video like 20 times so far over the course of the last year. Love you Simon.
One of the best tutorials out on TH-cam for Vocal Mixing, hands down!
Yeah I like it. Really easy to follow
Tbh, it's not correct. At least in the industry it's not necessarily correct. Sounds fine for an untreated room and if it sounds good to you then that's fine. There are a lot more professional videos out there for mixing vocals though.
@@ChadRockwell untreated room?
Nd please recommend other vids for me
@@tobehonest116 in an untreated room without any sound panels you're going to capture all of the frequencies bouncing off the walls all around the place. This makes the vocal take less clear and harder to work with especially when it comes to time based effects like reverb and delay. It's kinda like adding reverb onto another reverb.
Try to capture the cleanest dry signal you can.
Look up the basics of eq and compression and it will give you a better idea on how to use those tools. Every voice is different and there are many different ways to capture a vocal. Because of this, theres no one correct way to mix it. By knowing these tools, you will be able to work with the recording as best you can and know what you are hearing. Like the room could have some awful reflections in the upper mid frequencies so you can do an eq sweep to find that frequency that is sounding harsh. Learn to hear what "muddy" sounds like too. By pulling out some of the lows you can bring a lot of clarity to the vocal.
Think of EQ as kind of a knife that carves the sound to fit with everything else.
Compression is exactly what the same says. It squashes the vocal making the louder parts more even with the quiet parts of the vocal.
This can be used to keep the vocal from being too loud at certain parts of the song as well as change the sound completely in some cases. Knowing how youd like things to sound and then knowing what tools do to achieve that sound is going to improve your mixing a ton.
Theres nothing wrong with a video like this, obviously I'm here as well. I like to see what other people are doing because it gives me ideas and inspires me to try out new things. Just dont takke any 1 video as the be all end all.
Keep up the hard work on your music production journey! Being eager to learn is vital.
of course bro
"I am the King, I am the code, I am the law, I am the oath, I am the one on top of the throne" - Simon Servida, truly the dopest of all punchlines
How much compression do u need?
Servida: yes
Love it. Straight to the point. With out self promoting or just talking a bunch of b.s.. please keep this format style whenever you explain things... Getting to the point sets you apart from every other channel. Your the king
Got that jaden smith sound in ur voice🔥🔥🔥
dude what the fuck does that even mean
2:43 Wow...Using Maximus as a De-Esser...GENIUS! I prefer that way because it's visual, and I wants to see my de-essing lol!!!
Lol you’re supposed to HEAR your de-easing more than you see it. 😆😆😆😆😆😆 but I totally feel you. Sound engineering had evolved and is more focussed on visual spectrum reference for audio than depending on numbers and guessing if it sounds good or not 😆😆😆😆
@@HapsMbambs I know what I'm talking about....I'm not saying adjusting by the visual alone, I mean I like to see what's being de-essed as well as hear it.
By far the best explaination of what a compressor is
I can't believe it man.
The person where I start learning FL Studio is the one that made the hit song Gento of my first ever fave group sb19. Dayum. What a small world.
This is the tutorial that my 2 years ago self have been searching for
A simple tutorial that explains what everything does.
Anyone who doesn't see the bands in Maximus when doing the de-esser step, click the little circle to the left of "Monitor" that's labelled "Show output spectogram"

Exactly what I was looking for
me too bro haha
I've watched this about four times and its helped me with my mix every time. Thanks simon ya good bastard
this song got a Jaden Smith type vibe tho, pure fire bro!
Facts lol
Damn... This song is probably one of the best songs Ive heard in a while, good work!
Damn, this is super useful. I'd never considered using multiband compression for de-essing. And it's super smart to crank up the low cut on the 'verb, helps give your vocals that subtle "natural" sound without muddying up the mix. I have a tendency not to use the boost & slide EQ technique enough, def gotta apply it more. Thanks for the tutorial, I'm definitely gonna be coming back to this.
A de-esser is essentially just a multiband compressor. You could use fruity multiband compressor to do this too or any other multiband compressor to target the frequencies where you've got sibilance (S's, T's and P's) and that's often between 3K and 5K Hz. You don't really have to know that number. De-essers are just specially designed to tackle those sorts of problems and those frequency ranges but they work on the same principle of any other multiband compressor. Hope this helped
You actually teach through the video instead of just saying “do this”
