Virtually all federal and state employees, including judicial figures, short of Supreme Court Justice level, are prohibited by laws that forbid government employees from accepting gifts beyond those minimal value. You are pointing out the problem with any political regime - power. Power always seeks to expand itself. Our system is about checks and balances to control any one branch or person to have too much power. The check on the Supreme Court isn’t a higher Supreme Court, but the people, through the legislature and the president.

@@Lula2979 every branch of govt is ‘political’. It comes from the Greek, ‘polis’, which was the city. The federalist papers make clear an understanding of the nature of power to corrupt, that everything is ‘political’, there’s nothing outside the ‘political’, esp with respect to govt, which is quintessentially political. Perhaps you don’t know what the word means. Perhaps you intend ‘partisan’. the courts were also always partisan. But the nomination of justices was not hyper-partisan until the 1980s with the Bork nomination, where the Democrats broke tradition by stonewalling Bork, humiliating him, and doing everything in their power to block him. This led to an ongoing war of justice nominations that really wasn’t foreseen or intended and is with us today.

    • @RC-qf3mp

@@marvinmartin4692 conservatives face a jury of conservative Americans with regularity in conservative states. That’s what you get from a jury in Waco Texas vs a Manhattan jury. So what’s your point? It might be unpleasant for you to acknowledge but about half of voters wanted Trump in 2016. This isn’t a tyranny of some tiny minority. This is a large chunk of the population. So if about half the Supreme Court justices are conservative, that would be representative. The majority of the supreme court depends on random factors, like the health of justices, when they choose to retire (which, if from health, is pretty up in the air), which presidents are in office and how much sway they happen to have at the time.
