I had to laugh when you were wrapping the body with floss and you said "just take your time" I would hate to see how quickly you do it when your rushing it .keep up the good work davie.

Maine brook trout, Scottish browns or salmon, this thing catches them all.

Rivers here in North East England are at virtually drought levels, using size 12 Osprey doubles for this pattern.

What would be the difference between a hair wing pattern like this and something like an undertaker?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stephen,
They are very similar patterns in many ways that's why both flies have fished well all over the world..
      All the very best Davie

    Hello Davie
Still all others a verry nice fly. Perfekt done. It is always a surprise to see your tying videos.
What kind of head cement do you use on this fly?

      Hi Marco Wacker,
I use Veniards varnish which I would say is one of the best out there. I have attached a link to their website for you to see it, they are a wholesale company so any company that stock their materials should be able to get some for you...I'm glad you liked the tying of the Stoats Tail...

Hi Davie, is that still your old LAW vice or a pro vise, Seems provide copied the LAW vice. Look exactly almost the same. If you happen to have the chance to use the Pro vice, are they good as the LAW vice?. be great to hear your advice. thks

      Hi jparryprodeal,
Yes it is an original Law vise which I have owned for many years. I bought it when it was only £350 but since it is now no longer made they have shot up in price..I have seen photos on Facebook of the pro version and from what I have saw it looks really well made but I would have to see it upfront to see what it really looks like...
      All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, Your vice still looks new like it was bought yesterday n that proven it is a very high quality made vice. The Pro Vise are going for almost 1200 British pounds n no video introduction are available at this date.
I have had the full complete system from Norvise that I paid over 1000USD but I am not used to tying like Norm does. I find it hard to have tight threads over the hooks by spinning.
Though I like the bobbin that can be positioned at any point in time, but the spooling of thread onto the bobbin is just a pain for me. The full spool of thread also cannot be fully spooled onto it.
The worst is, if you forget to lock the threads onto the bobbin holder, the thread will return to the bobbin spool and you have to re-thread it again. I find the Marc Petitjean bobbin the most attractive, it does not need threading the normal way. I can closed my eyes and thread it.
The brass material on the NorVise tarnished very fast and the metal part rusted too. It becomes very ugly. It has now becomes a museum items in my closet..
I mostly used the Marc Petitjean swiss master vice, the regal revolution rotary vice with the stainless and big game jaws and also the Stonfo Transformer vice as it can takes up to a 9/0 hooks without changing jaws..
Lastly my dream is have a Original Law Vise one day, if Mr Law would make them again.
Thanks again for your fly tying video, I liked every video of your fly tying, very professional done and clearly explained.
The above are strictly my own opinion and I do not intend to offended anyone out there. Cheers.

Hi Davie, great video, I’m just getting back into tying after 20 years (gulp) and have been loving your videos, really beats the books I read when I started :) Could you tell me which superglue you use?
Thanks for all your hard work, and a big hello from Caithness!

      Hi Gordon,
I use the Loctite Easy Brush, I use a Stanley blade to cut down the brush to a few fibres as it is too big to use as it is..Good luck..
      All the very best Davie
