The first thing I did (when it became available) on my Model 3 was set the left scroll wheel to adjust the fan speed. You rushed past those type of functions in this video. As per Tesla website: “Is there any limitation on excessive data use? Yes. In some cases where data usage is deemed as excessive and exceeds a fair daily usage, we reserve the right to reduce connectivity bandwidth” I should mention that it’s 500MB for first month of BYD ownership followed by 2GB per month for the first 2 years
It will be interesting to see how these data plans pan out. 500MB would be gone pretty quick when you start music streaming. That's only 20 songs if you're listening over TIDAL with lossless for example. I have the same concern with the Polestar 2 which runs android automotive. Can it leverage your phones internet connection so you can have a decent data plan? And what happens when you run out?
It’s 500MB for the first month followed by 2GB per month for the next 2 years until further notice by BYD. You can hotspot from your phone. I just use Apple CarPlay tbh to play music hence not requiring the car data
@@LudicrousFeed thanks for the reply Tom. I haven't heard of any options to increase that limit though. Do you lose all of your access when you reach the limit? Hot spotting every time would be quite inconvenient and hard on your phone battery. You're right android auto or carplay are an alternative, but don't support a proper lossless codec which is a bit of a waste.
@@LudicrousFeed tidal does work on Carplay, but due to the connection used between the phone and the car, the benefits of lossless streaming are basically lost. AptX would get close to as good as it can get but running the software on the infotainment itself is practically the only way to get the best from the audio system. Correction: it seems that wired Carplay can support lossless but not wireless Carplay. Not sure what the compatibility would be for android auto though.
@@LudicrousFeed good videos Tom..loving the seal content. Re the audio, I've found Spotify via Android auto lacks a bit of volume - be interesting to compare that with perhaps some audio on a flash drive.
A question Tom, can you use your phone (enabling wifi hot spot) to share your phone data plan with your car ??? I mean, in the car you can use Spotify app using the data plan of your phone for instance. To do so, you Connect your car to your phone wifi hot spot vía wifi I ask this because...maybe BYD can provide you with 1GB of data to use every month the first 1 or 2 years...but once It lasts, it finishes..., the only está to get ingernet connection with your car is through your phone using your phone data plan (creating wifi hot spot) Could you clarify this please?? Kind regards
Sure I can try this but I already use Spotify on Apple CarPlay anyway hence I barely dip into the included data - but to answer your question, yes I can connect to my phone hotspot via WiFi hence bypassing the car’s data allowance
DAB stations are a digital signal from the radio towers so don't use a data feed , really only useful in citys as the signal drops out very quickly outside of the metro.
Byd's system in China is already version 5.0. The old system was just plain old Android. It is now more suitable for use in cars. I don't know. When do you update it
Hi Tom, We pick up our Premium this week and you have overwhelmed us with all the features complexity. Being of the pre computer age, can you explain what the vehicle’s SIM card enables and what the resultant costs can be expected from using its capabilities ?. Keep it simple and we might understand. The SIM offers connectivity and allows data for apps like Spotify and Nav Included allowance is 500MB for the first month and 2GB per month thereafter for the first 2 years of ownership
@@LudicrousFeed thanks Tom. 1/ So if I’m streaming and using Waze I’d only need it for seeing your stuff on TH-cam…….right?. 2/ could you explain what is involved in setting up your favourite radio stations. The Tesla process seemed totally dedicated to U.S. users.
At this stage there is no native TH-cam app on screen. Waze doesn’t need the car’s data allowance as it will be via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which comes from your device
@@LudicrousFeedIn Thailand we have the BYD app store included in the latest update, which gave access to a browser. I have TH-cam and Netflix loaded in different tabs which are remembered. Also included in the update was the karaoke app and a digital manual

Good suggestion. In other AWD cars I’ve tested, the car often will automatically only use the rear motors when travelling at high speeds on the highway to improve efficiency. I’ll have to borrow a Performance/AWD variant to see if the Seal does the same 🙏
No sign of Hardware information or service mode like a Tesla which is annoying. We be good to see what what CPU is running the system and if they are using Mediatek and not intel or amd .
I think the BYD Seal looks very promising but the software and general “look and feel” cannot be compared to the one on Teslas. This is really bad and reminds me of my first android phone. I know for most people this would probably not matter, but in a modern car a bad and ugly user experience like this would be a dealbreaker for me. Classic AliExpress quality to be honest
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks! Another question: the pedestrian warning sound is mandatory in Europe. So, I guess European cars will have this feature enabled at all times. Can you do a sound test on how loud the standard sound is (outside the car). I’ve heard the brand noise and it really sounds like a icecream truck when driving slow. You're right android auto or carplay are an alternative, but don't support a proper lossless codec which is a bit of a waste.
Apparently Tidal also works on Carplay?
@@LudicrousFeed tidal does work on Carplay, but due to the connection used between the phone and the car, the benefits of lossless streaming are basically lost. AptX would get close to as good as it can get but running the software on the infotainment itself is practically the only way to get the best from the audio system.
Correction: it seems that wired Carplay can support lossless but not wireless Carplay. Not sure what the compatibility would be for android auto though.
@@ipullstuffapart one benefit of wired CarPlay 👍
I note the radio has AM, must be one of the very few EV that has AM Radio
I just use TuneIn for all my radio needs
@@LudicrousFeed It's great for me as a future owner who works in the broadcast industry
Assuming you cannot not open and drive the car with mobile only like tesla?
Not as yet in Aus
I don't think the function on the driver's display is a speed limiter, I think you can set it to give you a warning if you hit a preset speed 🤷♂️
Ah ok makes sense
@@LudicrousFeed good videos Tom..loving the seal content. Re the audio, I've found Spotify via Android auto lacks a bit of volume - be interesting to compare that with perhaps some audio on a flash drive.
A question Tom, can you use your phone (enabling wifi hot spot) to share your phone data plan with your car ???
I mean, in the car you can use Spotify app using the data plan of your phone for instance. To do so, you Connect your car to your phone wifi hot spot vía wifi
I ask this because...maybe BYD can provide you with 1GB of data to use every month the first 1 or 2 years...but once It lasts, it finishes..., the only está to get ingernet connection with your car is through your phone using your phone data plan (creating wifi hot spot)
Could you clarify this please??
Kind regards
Sure I can try this but I already use Spotify on Apple CarPlay anyway hence I barely dip into the included data
- but to answer your question, yes I can connect to my phone hotspot via WiFi hence bypassing the car’s data allowance
The first month is 500 mb data after that you will get 2 gb per month up to 2 years , after that I guess you can pay a package ?
Will be interested to see BYD’s ongoing package costs given Atto owners will be up to their 2 year anniversary in late 2024
@@LudicrousFeed yes, have to wait until then to find out.
Can you watch netflix, youtube etc? Also I've heard you could do karaoke in the seal while wasting time at charging stations.
Not officially yet hit but you be can side load them apparently
DAB stations are a digital signal from the radio towers so don't use a data feed , really only useful in citys as the signal drops out very quickly outside of the metro.
Ah ok good to know
Also don't work in most Sydney tunnels :( But nice when they do work...
@@dbmgreen Hence why I generally use TuneIn on Apple CarPlay
Byd's system in China is already version 5.0.
The old system was just plain old Android.
It is now more suitable for use in cars.
I don't know. When do you update it
Good question, when do/will they update it? 🤷♂️
Hi Tom,
We pick up our Premium this week and you have overwhelmed us with all the features complexity. Being of the pre computer age, can you explain what the vehicle’s SIM card enables and what the resultant costs can be expected from using its capabilities ?. Keep it simple and we might understand. Thanks ✅
The SIM offers connectivity and allows data for apps like Spotify and Nav
Included allowance is 500MB for the first month and 2GB per month thereafter for the first 2 years of ownership
@@LudicrousFeed the one thing I fear is getting buried in capabilities. A simple car seems impossible these days.
Is it a Android Automotive infotainment system?
AFAIK it’s not technically Android Auto although it does suppose it wirelessly. It is however using the Android platform
When are the live streams back?
Late Jan 2024
Do u pay monthly for the data plan? With tesla its 10 bucks for unlimited data plan.
As per other comments, 500Mb for the first month and part thereof then 2Gb per month thereafter for the first 2 years at no extra monthly cost
It's good that the center infotainment system is android. More customization options are needed for the launcher.
That’s one benefit of Android
TH-cam or Netflix available ?
Not so far that I've seen although at delivery I did recall mention of an upcoming App Store ...? Maybe I misheard
@@LudicrousFeedIn Thailand we have the BYD app store included in the latest update, which gave access to a browser. I have TH-cam and Netflix loaded in different tabs which are remembered. Also included in the update was the karaoke app and a digital manual
@@EcoHouseThailand Nice! There’s hope for us here in Aus 👍😁
Door switch page 69 of manual.
Thanks but what does the button do?
Quite a long video but no review about the navigation function?! 😅
Thanks for the feedback, I think I may have covered that in another video … 😁
Besides I always use Waze via Apple CarPlay
well that was very informative, at the same time proves the old saying with anything mechanical, keep it simple, & that is not what I have seen, it must take you longer to get to the function via the screen instead of a button, & I call that distracting while driving.
You can also get to many of the functions via voice control
BYD does not allow hotspot sharing to prevent hacker intrusion.
Fair enough
Thank you for sharing. Very well presented.
Pleasure
I believe the first month you get 500mb Data, then it goes to 2gb from second month.
Yes that’s correct 👍
Good suggestion. In other AWD cars I’ve tested, the car often will automatically only use the rear motors when travelling at high speeds on the highway to improve efficiency. I’ll have to borrow a Performance/AWD variant to see if the Seal does the same 🙏
DAB+ usues radio waves like FM. It doesn't use the internet.
Cheers, good to know! 👍
@@LudicrousFeed enjoying all your content :)
Thank you!
DAB+ would be digital broadcast radio, not streaming :D
Got it cheers 👍
After First Month. You get 2gig of data a month.
Nice! Even better
dude this thing is like a computer!
Yup, that’s what it is - it’s a big Android tablet
DAB does not use data.
Good to know 👍
You get 500mb first month than 2 gb after that
Nice! Looking forward to see what BYD offer in terms of ongoing data plans after 2 years
dude, what did you do to your poor thumb!?
I damaged it folding this scooter😭: Jowua Folding Electric Scooter fits in frunk of Tesla Model S 3 X Y

No sign of Hardware information or service mode like a Tesla which is annoying. We be good to see what what CPU is running the system and if they are using Mediatek and not intel or amd .
Given it’s an Android system there probably is a way to find out
I think the BYD Seal looks very promising but the software and general “look and feel” cannot be compared to the one on Teslas. This is really bad and reminds me of my first android phone. I know for most people this would probably not matter, but in a modern car a bad and ugly user experience like this would be a dealbreaker for me. Classic AliExpress quality to be honest
Good analogy and yes the software could do with a revamp
Can the annoying country music start/stop music be turned off?
Yes it can. I just had it on for the “brand” setting. It won’t play under “Standard”
If the standard sound is not much better that would be a dealbreaker. Such a nice car with a sound to be ashamed of.
