I was hoping he'd do his Elvis impression. That always brought the house down especially at the end when he goes back to being Foreign Man and says, "thankyouverymuch".

THIS was the first time I had ever seen Kaufman, and it's STILL what I remember him for.
I looked for this sketch for YEARS trying to find it. Loved it from the first time I saw it in 1976.

5:54 I have NEVER heard that strong of an audience response. It sounded like an explosion. The audience were about to stomp the bleachers into dust!

I remember this, this was the first time I ever saw Andy Kaufman in anything (afair). Though as I understand it he was a recurring actor on _Van Dyke and Company._

The craft behind his work is that his performances always made you feel uncomfortable and on the edge.
    Dude was a genius.
Smart enough to fake his own death. If anybody could pull it off, it's him There was an underlying theme of controversy in his act.

Was this before or after he met Kurt?

I first saw Andy before he was famous, in a live talk show in Miami
back in the 70's- he was in the audience and got up to the mike and
asked the guest (the topic was Ufo's) very strange and weird questions,
until the host (Alan Burke)interrupted him and threw him out.
A few months later I saw him again on national tv. I guess what I saw
was all staged, but it sure seemed real at the time!

Wow, an Alan Burke mention! I watched his show regularly, not that I particularly liked him :-) but, it was.....different. I've looked in vain on here for any of those shows....

Per i pochi italiani qui, potrebbe essere in uno show di Lundini, ma quasi mezzo secolo prima

A terrible SNL-like skit that was not only saved by Kaufman, but turned into a masterpiece.

This isn't an SNL-like skit. It's from Dick Van Dyke's variety show. Also, it's entirely designed to showcase Andy's talent.

Andys stuff was extremely polarizing either you love him or hate him. There’s no middle ground. I appreciate his style of humor.
