- Andy Kaufman's legendary performance of Elvis Presley's "That's When Your Heartaches Begin" from Johnny Cash's Christmas Special 1979 DVD.
This is a direct copy from the DVD and was uploaded with the goal of preserving and sharing the audio quality.
This is the best version of the audio recording I could find. Andy Kaufman's voice was just incredible. Opening with Foreign Man and contrasting it immediately after with a spectacular impersonation and performance of Elvis Presley.
You can tell Andy was in love with Elvis, just like the rest of us
One of the few geniuses who drew the line that he walked on
Well, if you'd never heard elvis sing that song, then you have now... excellent.

....Happy Sunday!☆😊💦 ♡ ♪♫•
He had Elvis voice down perfectly. Hard to believe this is Andy talking and singing.
He does a beautiful Elvis impersonation!
He has a great voice! ❤ it!!!
Andy Kaufman knew he did not have the handsomeness Elvis had, the extent of his talent, but he had talent, and a beautiful singing voice. He captured what Elvis sang, think he would be impressed, and I am too. I think Andy Kaufman did not get the recognition he deserved. ❤From A Nashville Girl❤
The best impersonator of Elvis I’ve ever heard
Elvis Presley himself gave him a 👍 that's a high enough authority to accept his impersonation. Good job Andy Coffman.
😌🙋 Kaufman😌
You have to feel it to do it this well. Andy was feeling it, for sure.
Truly, he is just next to Elvis; yet, he is the best among all impersonayors of Elvis.
Love him a lot.
Elvis had more octaves, better vibrato and smoother sound along with a much stronger voice.
Absolute rubbish. He’s just an impersonator out of tens of thousands.
It's hard not to love this one. I thought his comedy was great, but I really enjoy his impersonations of Elvis best.
I love each tribute spoken so nicely and truly. I genuinely enjoyed his impersonation. Very talented young man.
❤😂🎉 Great impression! Rest in Paradise Andy.👌👍😃
Andy sure got even better the more he did Elvis
I have watched this video so many times. He did it perfect. RIP Andy
Great sound, had to play it twice. Andy and Elvis both great entertainers. Thanks for the ride boys. T.
He trolled everyone, except for Elvis. He took Elvis very seriously.
Howdy Doody too
I just love this tribute from Andy to Elvis...He was great...
Not trying to outdo Elvis because let,'s face it ...there was and never again be another Elvis...He was so special....had the privilege of seeing Elvis in person twice ...
Loving Elvis always ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And loving This tribute ....
I enjoyed watching this for the first time back in 1979 at my grandfathers home on his big fancy console floor model RCA color TV, a big deal back then especially when we only had about a 19 inch Black and white TV lol. And now 45 years later, it's still great to watch, and not only that it was a hoot watching Andy on Taxi. Thanks for the recording, it save me from doing it myself on Audacity. One more thing, if you didn't grow up in the 1970's, you sure missed a lot...my favorite decade!
I've never seen this before. Thank you so much !!!
I love this cover so much
Andy was great at Elvis impression rest in peace Andy
He really did love Elvis, Andy is putting his heart and soul into this act !!!
Andy loved Elvis. Great impersonation!
It takes nothing but music appreciation to love this version of Andy's just the way the King did it.
I loved Andy's Elvis it was very good 👍
I watched this on the old black and white! I remember it *very* well and the fact this was a song on the first album I ever purchased at 6 years old: ELVIS' Golden Records. Top notch salute to The KING by Mr. Kaufman!!!
👑 ✨️ *T⚡️C⚡️B* ✨️ 👑
This is a great impression 😮
Absolutely splendid!!!!
ELVIS was the 1st to do the super hero landing that Andy imitates so brilliantly at the end! Bravo Rip Andy and Elvis!
This is the belly laugh I needed today!! 😂😂
I just watched the movie Elvis. After watching his last performance this video popped up. I was expecting Andy Kaufman to do a funny impersonation instead he was serious in his role as Elvis and what a spectacular performance it was. They were both one of a kind and are missed by many. Cheers to them both.

Very good Mr Kaufman. I love the Freddie Starr Elvis copy . But this is excellent. 😊
I had forgotten just how great of an Elvis impersonator Andy was 👏🏻🥰‼️ It’s been a long time since I last saw him do this.
I'm 48 and French but honest, I'm not surprised that Andy Kaufman was Elvis's favourite impersonator because not only his "impersonation" wasn't much of an impersonation in the humorous meaning of the word but more of a genuine interpretation with a thin trait of humour and his voice and singing skills were actually much closer to Elvis's than any other Elvis's impersonator. He made them look like parrots but without forcing it like with the hair for instance. Andy doesn't overdo it, He takes the stage doing an idiot, places his wig on stage and off he goes with a great interpretation. To me, Elvis is not even the most important part in his impersonation. That's the greatness of Andy Kaufman. The king comes second.
Andy Kaufman, a great entertainer 👍
Guy was scary good at this!
He sounds exactly like Elvis love him
WoW!!! Andy Kaufman was great!
If you find your sweetheart
In the arms of a friend
That's when your heartaches begin
When dreams of a lifetime
Must come to an end
That's when your heartaches begin
[Verse 2]
Love is a thing
You never can share
If you bring a friend
Into your love affair
That's the end of your sweetheart
That's the end of your friend
That's when your heartaches begin
If you find your sweetheart
In the arms of your best friend
Brother, that's- that's when your heartaches begin
A great job❤
O wow very well done.
Very good!! 👏👏👏

D A N G pretty darn good !!!!!!!!
Absolutely John Andy Kaufman blows this heart 💔 Song out of the respective WaterS.
Andy was so cute, 🥰🥰
i’ve been watching stuff like this alone in my bedroom for 8 or more months now
WOW! Amazed really!
Amazing...
We lost Andy way too soon
WOW! GOOD JOB ❤
Really enjoying this! Thank you!
Kaufman had a genuine fondness for EP, and it shows in his non-nonsencical little tribute here.😎
He's very good 👍
andy always liked the deeper cuts
Andy Kaufman did a outstanding performance. And remarkable vocals as well. A feel,Elvis impersonaters don't have to look or move like the king of rock roll. I heard from a source. Do it right and you'll do a good job.
Also,I sing along with Andy and other artists as well. Im,getting ready for karaoke contest at the Rosebud Casino in January and February. Looking forward to it.
Andy Kaufman is a true and awesome comedian.there's no one like him.
wish you the best of luck :)@@user-pt1pb2ju1o
GET DOWN ANDY - - ANDY GET DOWN !
Wow 😢
Hi, this message is to those who thinks that THIS COMEDIAN is making an impression or imitation ON ELVIS. He is not making that. Those who were born before 1970 know who was Andy and why he tried to make those "funny" shows... He was an Elvis fan, appeared in "Saturday night" and "Johnny Cash", "Letterman"... Have you guys watched the movie called "Man on the moon"? (Jim Carrey) Please watch it, and you will understand about Andy and NOOOT making an impression on Elvis...Kaufman first received major attention for his character "Foreign Man", who spoke in a meek, high-pitched, heavily accented voice and claimed to be from "Caspiar", a fictional island in the Caspian Sea. This is what you can see in his many videos about Elvis, he loved Elvis, and laughed at Elvis impersonators... It was as this character that Kaufman convinced the owner of the famed New York City comedy club The Improv, Budd Friedman, to allow him to perform on stage. As Foreign Man, Kaufman would appear on the stage of comedy clubs, play a recording of the theme from the Mighty Mouse cartoon show while standing perfectly still, and lip-sync only the line "Here I come to save the day" with great enthusiasm. He proceeded to tell a few (intentionally poor) jokes and concluded his act with a series of celebrity impersonations, with the comedy arising from the character's obviously hopeless ineptitude at impersonation. For example, in his fake accent Kaufman announced to the audience, "I would like to imitate Meester Carter, de president of de United States" and then, in exactly the same voice, say "Hello, I am Meester Carter, de president of de United States. T'ank you veddy much." At some point in the performance, usually when the audience was conditioned to Foreign Man's inability to perform a single convincing impression, then because he knew Elvis songs, and hating impersonators used "Foreign Man" would announce, "And now I would like to imitate the Elvis Presley", turn around, take off his jacket, slick his hair back, and launch into a rousing, hip-shaking rendition of Elvis singing one of his hit songs. Like Elvis, he took off his leather jacket during the song and threw it into the audience, but unlike Elvis, Foreign Man would immediately ask for it to be returned. After the song's finale, he would take a simple bow and say in his Foreign Man voice, "T'ank you veddy much". He was just a comedian, a bad comedian OF COURSE... Although Kaufman made a name for himself as a guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live, his first prime-time appearances were several guest spots as Foreign Man on the Dick Van Dyke variety show Van Dyke and Company in 1976. He appeared four times on The Tonight Show in 1976-78, with "Foreign Man" doing his imitation of Johnny Carson's sidekick Ed McMahon, with no change in voice: "Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. How hot was eet. Ha ha ha." Kaufman also appeared three times on NBC's late-night concert series The Midnight Special in 1972, 1977, and 1981 Kaufman appeared on The Dating Game in 1978, in character as Foreign Man, and cried when the bachelorette chose Bachelor #1, protesting that he had answered all the questions correctly, In August 1969, he hitchhiked to Las Vegas to meet Elvia, showing up unannounced at the International Hotel. He was not a REGULAR Elvis's impersonator, just TRYING to make a DIFFERENT impression on Elvis, and LAUGHED those who tried to make an impression ON Elvis, no one can be like Elvis, he was not laughing at ELVIS, but laughed at impersonators. He made a ridiculous impersonator as we can find when someone trying to be like Elvis, there is only one Elvis... If you guys want further information about Andy, just watch it in Netflix documentary about Andy... starring Jim Carrey... Hope you guys now can understand that this is nothing to do with imitation or a PERFECT impression of Elvis. Andy was an Elvis fan and hated Elvis impersonators.
Thanks, those layers of irony are lost to many.
@@markuspietari Hi, thanks to you for reading
Play the Elvis version......Andy aced it supurbo!
luar biasa. bagus sekali...
terima kasih sangat menghibur

Важно понимать, что это не имперсонаторство, а именно пародия - но! замечательная, добрая и очень качественная, как и все, что делал Энди!
Surely Ral Donner was the best Elvis impressionist…by a country mile I’d say.
And surely you must be joking,
@@alanbishop9737 well,no lesser figure than the man himself,Elvis, said Donner was the best.I’ll take his word for it as he was the guy who should know.
That’s great I’m sosuprised , it’s a bit sounding like Elvis voice, he must of practiced a lot good for you❤🎉😊
Saw Andy yesterday…
@Steve-cw1zo In a dream?
"You mean to say you learned to impersonate Elvis Presley, ironically?"
Not bad he’s pretty good 👍
😻💖💖💖
Stupid saying it was better than Elvis, Elvis was only 18 when he sang it
And again 21 or 22 when re re-recorded it
Johnny Cash was the best.
Song starts at 2:50. 🙂
Krazy funny
This is me in the shower.
Is there only one copy of that’s when your heartaches begin by Elvis, I’ve seen another one
there's the sun version, and the rca version
NOT BAD!!!
Fantistic
so all i have to do to get rid of her is get a best friend hahahaha big ten 4
Love this 💥💗
Reincarnated
Freakin’ genius comedian
How would Johnny know Elvis said that?
Johnny should not have mentioned the Elvis impersonation. It took away some of the surprise.
Pretty good, but it sounded like Jerry Lewis was trying to jump in there a few times, or maybe Eddie Deezen. 😂 RIP Andy.
😂😂😂😂How-D
Энди сделал невозможное-спел песню Элвиса лучше самого Элвиса.
Šašek.😮🤕
uh, would've been nice if they'd kept the punchline in...
AK 47
彼はニール・セダカを阿保ずらした顔に見える。
Better than the Elvis version
Don’t be silly lol
Seriously he is better than Elvis...lol
There will always be stupid people or perhaps you’re just one of those who seeks attention.
Different tune he ain't Elvis
You are such an fool. It’s sounds nothing like him. It’s pathetic but to fair, it is difficult to impersonate a genius.
Too bad he died so young.
Johnny is just saying what somebody supposedly heard Elvis say. I doubt it because never heard any of his family said that. Once Elvis did a concert in Denver in the audience was an imitator of his. When Elvis was told about it he said why would anybody want to imitate me? Fact.
Your lip singing
Ok so what is up with these comments!? The only reason Elvis may have said Kaufman was his favourite impersonator, is cos Elvis couldn’t deny his thievery…. And it’s easier to attempt to laugh at the cold hard truth, and hope that examples of his absolute indisputable sloppy seconds and white washed jacked up versions of ….
Some of these were Big Mama Thorton's "Hound Dog," Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame," Big Joe Turner's "Shake, Rattle, and Roll," Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup's "That's Alright," and Otis Blackwell's "Don't Be Cruel" and "All Shook Up”…
To name a few.
What’s really a giant metaphor for a constipation patron of shit…. Is the fact that “Elvis stole from the blackman” is the most common phrase I hear , whether the argument is attempting to be factually correct and shine a light on a multitude of issues regarding his grand theft larceny of anything worth mentioning….(this includes literally every aspect of his entire existence
Actually. Fact: I am gonna pretend I give thanks whilst celebrating mass murder and colonialism (sarcasm… for you trolls who probably think the TCB means “taking care of bagels”. Ermm. I didn’t realise there was one black man….
The black man.
Ironically there is a very interesting law regarding limited factors regarding photosynthesis….
I assume y’all weren’t complaining about the objectivity and fortitude of plants and their environment.
I assume y’all were just being angry ignorant listemers of music 🎵 by your favourite musician who doesn’t write songs, doesn’t really serve in the military, (I mean, he got to purchase a house for his grandmother, and stay there, he got discharged to take time to film fucking awful movies…. He was a useless hip replacement that didn’t get used)
So yeah. Andy Kaufman doing a good Elvis Shtick is the best move.
I can’t believe how many verbal concussions focussing on his nose…. Are popping up.
Is this a mass drunk useless movement who can’t focus on anything far away on a face…. Like…. Eyes are so far back from the nose…..
I don’t even know why I am still replying. But my adoration for musicians like sister Rosetta tharpe , lazy lester…hound dog taylor…
Well that’s my perfect 100 words essay that I wasn’t planning on writing.
✍🏻 I know it’s perfect. Unless ur a republican “psychology professor “ and u don’t think that Allen Ginsberg’s influence didn’t make Elvis Aaron consider not being such a fucking sequin riddled sequential bottom feeder of pond life.
Good luck ermm , I mean u probably haven’t finished reading this, but if u attempt some “smart retort”
Good luck.
@juliaseizure Dear Julia, when you wrote all this, did you have a seizure?
I also write a lot and am very unpopular but what does this endless comment
mean?
I've read everything, what you wrote, carefully and don't understand why you go from the hundredth to the thousandth.
Big Elvis fans write here who don't like some things about Kaufman.
And Kaufman fans who don't want their star to be denigrated also write here.
Especially not because he actually only had such a short life.
@@raincloud7817 I’m glad you read everything what I wrote.
I hope you take the time to now read and understand everything that I wrote.
In reply to your very empty attempt at a rebuttal, (I see it was edited, could u message me the first draft)….
I can only congratulate you for reading my “endless comment”.
Seems you solved the puzzle of absolutely nothing. Splendid job.
@@juliaseizure4057 Well, because I sounded a little mocking,
I understand your reaction.
Yes, I admit, I didn't understand much of your long text. However, I am Austrian ♀, can only speak school English and rely on the online translation. I also really want to read your extensive work again, if I have time and in a good mood. It's just questionable whether I'll understand everything.
I know far too little about America, American people, their lives and so on.
Unfortunately, I can't send you my un-edited answer, because I don't save things like that.
In any case, I didn't mean anything bad. And, as silly it may be, I'm
a big fan of Andy Kaufman and I mourn for him.
@@raincloud7817 you may be interested to read into Albert Goldman’s pre-cursor to this incident… and Kaufmans insistence that he didn’t want to perform the sketch on SNL (I believe…) but was threatened with joblessness and felt pressured/forced to perform. Very interesting. Very sad. Very bizarre.
@@juliaseizure4057 Dear Julia, it's very kind of you to answer me again.
But unfortunately I know next to nothing about these things.
I know little about showbiz in the US in general and only learned that Andy Kaufman existed in early June 2024.
Sorry but it’s not Elvis. He hasn’t got the looks and he hasn’t got the voice. It’s a competent impersonation and that’s all it is. I suppose it’s a little difficult to impersonate a genius.
I think you’ve nailed it there.
i think your missing the point of Andy's act...
@@johnhoffmanpaintings8512 please explain it then without mentioning Elvis. He ain’t got the voice, the looks and the charisma of Elvis so he’s a very poor Elvis impersonator. Am I supposed to judge him as another singer without comparing him to Elvis? On that basis he’s very average. Just explain it because to me it’s very simple: poor Elvis impersonator and as a singer very indifferent.
@wjrs5 the guy was a comedy act that had a very squeaky Eastern European voice , he was also a star in an American sit. Com called taxi (which also launched Danny devito) if you look up some of his other acts you will see it was more of a homage than a direct serious impersonation. That is why Elvis himself preferred this guys take on him.
@@johnhoffmanpaintings8512 ok he did a bit of comedy. He sang Elvis songs but he knew his impersonation was poor. Elvis found him amusing. Got it.
This is the ONLY thing he did well........All else sucks.
