Danny, I just broke 90 for the first time last week (87 actually!), and so much of that was due to understanding “the circle” from your videos. I remember there was a hole that I just struggled with. OB right side compounded with cart path and a left to right slope of the fairway. I would get to the hole and aim left and still slice right. Round after round, I would aim further left and go further right. I realized that while my feet were aligned left the ball was further back in my stance - hence hitting it early with the face open. This is a great representation of that issue. Proper alignment is so critical for good shots. Great vid.

I told him it was all thanks to you. Now to my question. Isn't aiming to the right and closing the club face introducing more faults to my swing?
Thanks Danny. You ate helping to make golf an easier game to play. This video helps me greatly to understand the golf swing in hitting the Driver. This is one video that I will keep in my saved video files.
Thanks again Danny. Your lessons have taken me down from 24 to 15.3 in 12 months and I should be at least down to 12 this year. My swing error is that I spin out with my hip which drags my right shoulder wih it and then I get the over the top swing. Any chance of a lesson to prevent this please. If you have done it already then a link to it please.
Been struggling for a long time to hit my driver straight more consistently. I used your system today and it worked! I hit several excellent drives. Thank you!!!
Best driver explanation I’ve ever heard and seen. I’ve heard these components explained separately before but this visual wrapped them together in a lightbulb moment.
The "geometry" principle is genius i can see it now. Swear to God i just got goosebumps in that UREKA moment. Danny the little tidbits of info is the best bar none - thank you is never enough!
About a year ago I had all sorts of problems with my driver set up from ball positioning to tee Hight. I was playing with some pretty decent golfers one day, one in particular could see my frustration and deteriorating lack of confidence. What I didn't notice was that I was not lining up the ball with the inside of my heel. In other words I was not taking the time to set up properly. He pointed this out as a basic fundamental and after a few holes I wasn't placing my shots way left, a big improvement. Interestingly in you lesson you adjusted your stance which is what I did also and I can say that most of my drives are now finding the fairway more consistently. Thanks, Danny, for this weeks lesson. You continue to instill confidence and valuable tuition to my game. Have a great week!
I watched your video last night and tried it on the course today. It really worked for me. Not only were the drives straight but I was also getting more height and distance. I shot in the 70s for the first time in some while. Thank you Danny.
Danny I had been hitting a nice draw/straight driver for months, but recently I started hitting slices again and haven’t been able to figure out what I’m doing because I’m pretty sure (albeit I have no access to launch monitor numbers) I’ve been swinging from the inside with a relatively square face. Your visual at 1:18 just made it click in my head that I’ve been recently trying to hit it with the ball way too far forward in my stance. Amazing how the tiniest little thing can alter the shot shape so drastically! I’m excited to implement these teachings again at my next range session and hopefully see the same results you’re displaying here!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, never has a tip made such a quick and significant improvement to my game, went out this morning and was straighter and longer from the first tee to last. Thank you
thanks Danny. its great how a simple explanation can help so much. too many on you yube etc make things sound much more intricate for no reason. i tried the 11 o'clock trick and has straightened up my driving really well, adding nearly 20 yards to my average. excellent tips, all free and so simple. best channel on youtube.
As someone who is a very BAD slicer of the golf ball, I've found closing off my front shoulder and stance a little bit has hugely encouraged my swing path towards a straighter swing. HOWEVER, if I have the ball to front on my stance it slices regardless; something you've helped me realize! This past weekend my typical 220-230 carry turned into about 260 carry just from hitting it straighter. Thank you Danny! Your tips truly are the best on here.
THANK YOU! This was a total game changer for me, instant results. Ball went straight every time, and some even had a tiny bit of draw at the end. I've never hit so many tee shots to the left before in my life, lol. Now I need to work on aiming better and my short game.
As someone who is an avid trackman user and understands all it's metrics I think it's also important that you explain those numbers on the screen to people but there are also many numbers not displayed there that would go into further detail about why or why not a person is hitting any club well or not. In your first swing at 1:38 you left your right should completely open in your forward swing, your club head angle was was -8.2 degrees and your swing direct was -13 degrees... Both of those metrics alone mean you swung the club massively out-to-in. Closing the club face like you did right after this shot might help correct that a bit for some but you will ultimately sacrifice distance, hook the ball or worse... that is because when you close the face of driver you deloft driver. We know now because of trackman metrics that a higher ball trajectory is more penetrating than a low drive (assuming you don't have a 40mph head wind). In order to hit driver correctly, you must be in-to-out on your swing plane (+1.5 or less but close to 0 is ideal). This is true of every golf club. You need to hit it the ball no more that -1 degrees at impact angle to reduce spin to sub 2000rpm but ideally have a positive attack angle of no more that +2.5, and you need to have a smash factor (ball speed divided by club head speed) of 1.4 or greater to get the most out of your driver. Any thing less or more ends in a not optimal drive. I do like your videos and have watched many of them, but people need to understand the swing itself and what those numbers truly mean.
The physics of the arc of the golf swing, path of the club head & angle of the clubface brilliantly & simply explained! As a junior, one of the local pros explained this by drawing it out on a blackboard from an aerial viewpoint. That was a real 'light bulb' moment for me & something to refer back to visually. I'd never thought that the arc shape of the rubber tray for the golf balls could be so useful! Thank you again Danny for once again, simplifying this complicated game!
This why old time golfers used a closed stance to compensate for the left-heading club head. (Look at Sam Snead's swing as an example.) In addition, pulled shots tend to go farther than straight shots. With the closed stance you are, in effect, hitting a pulled shot every time. The opposite is true with irons, especially shorter irons which is why the old time stance for shorter irons is open. The club head is still travelling down and away from your body with irons and more so with shorter irons. The open stance compensates for the outward path of the club head at impact. I think it is called D-plane or something like that.
Danny! Been "following" you for several years!!Best part of your instructions IS your enthusiasm/positivity/engaging smile in all of your videos. My ? for you is are you planning on doing a part 2 in your Senior Golf Series? Hope you are and if you are when is it coming? I really enjoyed your first "series"... helped me ALOT to stay centered over the ball. I am a Pete Cowen "follower" and your EMPHASIS on the importance of the LEAD SHOULDER just "rings with me " so strongly! Big congrats on your wonderful ratings on the top 100 most influential people in golf!! Richly deserved!!!
Brilliant explanation, it just proves you sometimes need to think outside the square. Hence I’m a great slicer and have never ever thought to slightly aim right of target because I would think that is suicidal. Thanks it was well explained and I can’t wait to test it out, it may be my answer.
The slicing explanation makes perfect sense. I recently realized that I have long been overestimating how forward the ball should be at set up. Perhaps my eyes playing tricks on me? In any case, once I started setting up with the ball a bit further back, my driving has been noticeably more consistent. This video is further validation! Thanks!
@@DanielMaude I put your advice into play and absolutely nailed 18 out of 20 drives on the range. Dead straight into the back net @220... Thank you! -Randy
Thank you coach.... that was very impormative. My driver shot was as you described. I tried to compensate it by aiming to the LEFT of the target instead of what you said to the right. I tried closing the club face at set up but I aim it straight. As you know, those things made it worst. So I quit playing. I am glad that I came across your video, now I am ready to give it a try... thank you
Spotted this drill the other day, practiced it a few times in my garden setup. Took it to the course today and I could not believe the result. My very expensive Ai driver, which had been languishing in the corner of shame in my man cave after spearing balls continuously to the right, came out to play (it was destined for replacement) and worked beautifully! I had until now been forced into taking my 5w off the tee, trading distance for accuracy, not today. This apparently weird looking setup worked straight out the box. It does take a measure of courage to align yourself directly at a lake or OB on the RH side of the hole, but fear not, the ball struck the centre of the club face, and drew majestically into the fairway time after time, and as a result, the rest of my game, for the most part, fell into line. Thanks again for this top tip, I’m now a DM convert.👏🏼
Slow down the back swing. Helped me a ton when I picked up my first set of clubs. I was so used to just going after it that I kept slicing to the right. If you slow down the swing and then go for it, then you'll start noticing a difference. Stance and grip are important, but the swing 9 times out of 10 can kill your shot big time.
Danny, as always - perfect. You are a great communicator! And have a great understanding of the swing!! Remember - steak dinner in (beautiful) Raleigh, NC Tom
Thank you again , Danny. Your explanations of why things happen to the ball and how to correct them using swing pattern thing with balls placed around it was fantastic. The old saying " a picture is worth a thousand words" comes into play. Yes, the simple physics of club, ball position, and face angle is so revealing of what actually happens. I wish I had seen this a long tiime ago. I can't wait to get back out on the range and the course. You're just simply the king of instructors. God bless and stay in good health.
I learned so much from this video. The 7:20 mark of the video was key for me because that is what I had been doing (slicing). I can't wait to take these tips to the range tomorrow...THANKS Danny!!
I tried this at First Tee in Colorado Springs this afternoon. Down the middle. Thank you, sir. Now if I can just get my distance up from 210 yards carry. I’m working on weekly swing speed training.
Great Lesson. Thank you. Still trying to figure out how you are effortlessly hitting it 290 😊 Is it club speed? Can you add that data tile to your Trackman screen please. Looked through your past videos - can you share any that may help with distance? Thank You!
8:33 Thank you Danny, excellent, clear explanation…can you do a short video on the hand/wrist movement on how to square the club face? Its’ the subtle move you outlined at the very end of this video. (Are you rotating the face with both hands? How can the move be timed at impact? How can the move be made automatic?) I’ve been crossing my forearms over in the manner you described, and have been having a terrible time eliminating my slice…i can’t wait to try this process… thank you!!
Just took up golf last year...and of course I have a wicked slice. The courses aren't open yet (we still have snow), but I'm excited to try this out. It makes perfect sense, why hasn't anyone explained it so simply before.
Nailed it! Usually, I am so apprehensive on the tee, but having worked on this tip on the range, my last round of golf was transformed. From losing so many holes after the tee shot, I went to being in pole position, striking the ball consistently well and with unbelievable yardage gain. Thanks Danny
I've only just started on my golf journey and have gone through hours and hours of these incredibly detailed and simple videos. Execution is top drawer! The wife isnt best pleased that I'm constantly getting out bed to practice and change my swing arc though! 😂
Great lesson Danny I've struggled to keep a slice a bay for years will definitely work on this at the range and I've forwarded this on to a friend in our four ball cheers
the draw stance you're advocating is one i actually have to use when putting to get me to bring the putter through in a straight faced single line, the stance corrects a misalignment in my shoulders i must have in my natural set up.
I'm sitting here with my mouth literally open while watching the video. Super! I now understand much more how it should be easier to play more consistent drives. Thank you!
This is one of my favorite lessons to watch. I often struggle with squaring the club face, even with my new Paradigm driver with a draw sliding back weight. A trick I use is to bow my left (leading wrist) at the top of my backswing. That helps square the clubface at impact. Wondering if that is accomplishing the same thing as closing the face before gripping at setup? Or should I do both?
Your explanation of why the slice happens is excellent. simplified and broken down for all to understand. The part when you used the training stick to show the flight path was genius. Thank you
Watched this a few days ago. Went to the range with it and was hitting my driver and 5w for fun. Just shot my first 79 after two years of lessons and trying to get my swing plane into the morikawa downswing …. This video really helped me with the draw
Ohhhhh!!! That’s why you close your stance! Seriously, “they” always say to close your stance but they never SHOWED why! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Danny, I am blown away. I chronically fade my driver. I get lucky and get straight shots sometimes but, never when it really seems to matter. I watched this, went straight to the driving range and I was consistently getting straight if not relatively or at least straight enough hits. I hit some draws, but almost no slices or fades. Still gonna take a little adjusting, but this is gonna be my new stance and swing. The first video I’ve watched where something actually worked when in comes to the slice or fade.

👍 Andy, common fault this one
Me too...gofer from Az
Been struggling for a long time to hit my driver straight more consistently. I used your system today and it worked! I hit several excellent drives. Thank you!!!
Brilliant James well done 😁
Slicing or hooking for years 🥵 this needs to stop.
Hope this helps Mark

Brilliant! About 20-25 years too late ... but brilliant all the same! You have no idea how much this has helped ... Thanks Danny
Wonderful to hear Darrin
Best driver explanation I’ve ever heard and seen. I’ve heard these components explained separately before but this visual wrapped them together in a lightbulb moment.
Happy it helped you D!
The "geometry" principle is genius i can see it now. Swear to God i just got goosebumps in that UREKA moment. Danny the little tidbits of info is the best bar none - thank you is never enough!
Really happy to help
Thank you Matt happy to hear your Drives improving and thank you for taking the time to comment 😁
Genius ! Absolute legend !
Can not fault your explanation.
I’m forever recommending you to my golfing friends
Thanks Lewis 😁👍
I watched your video last night and tried it on the course today. It really worked for me. Not only were the drives straight but I was also getting more height and distance. I shot in the 70s for the first time in some while. Thank you Danny.
Amazing! Thanks for taking the time to feedback, Nathan
Probably the best driver lesson I've ever seen. I related to the whole thing. Described me the whole time. Thank you.
Thanks Kage 😁
Thank you, thank you, thank you, never has a tip made such a quick and significant improvement to my game, went out this morning and was straighter and longer from the first tee to last. Thank you
thanks Danny. its great how a simple explanation can help so much.
too many on you yube etc make things sound much more intricate for no reason. i tried the 11 o'clock trick and has straightened up my driving really well, adding nearly 20 yards to my average.
excellent tips, all free and so simple. best channel on youtube.
I appreciate that!
That’s amazing well
Done
THANK YOU! This was a total game changer for me, instant results. Ball went straight every time, and some even had a tiny bit of draw at the end. I've never hit so many tee shots to the left before in my life, lol. Now I need to work on aiming better and my short game.
@TechniSean1 that’s great. Well done 👏. Thank you for watching 👍🏻
I do like your videos and have watched many of them, but people need to understand the swing itself and what those numbers truly mean.
the semi circle and balls teed up around it is a great visual that clarifies what is going on. Solid demonstration Danny.
Thanks David happy to help 👍
This why old time golfers used a closed stance to compensate for the left-heading club head. (Look at Sam Snead's swing as an example.) In addition, pulled shots tend to go farther than straight shots. With the closed stance you are, in effect, hitting a pulled shot every time. The opposite is true with irons, especially shorter irons which is why the old time stance for shorter irons is open. The club head is still travelling down and away from your body with irons and more so with shorter irons. The open stance compensates for the outward path of the club head at impact. I think it is called D-plane or something like that.

My ? for you is are you planning on doing a part 2 in your Senior Golf Series? Hope you are and if you are when is it coming? Big congrats on your wonderful ratings on the top 100 most influential people in golf!! Richly deserved!!!

Danny - my friends and I often comment on TH-cam videos but time and again, you are the one we trust!! This is magic - thank you 🤜🤛
Happy to help thanks for the support!
Brilliant explanation, it just proves you sometimes need to think outside the square. Hence I’m a great slicer and have never ever thought to slightly aim right of target because I would think that is suicidal. Thanks it was well explained and I can’t wait to test it out, it may be my answer.
Love to hear how you get on Lee
The slicing explanation makes perfect sense. I recently realized that I have long been overestimating how forward the ball should be at set up. Perhaps my eyes playing tricks on me? In any case, once I started setting up with the ball a bit further back, my driving has been noticeably more consistent. This video is further validation! Thanks!
That’s great Daniel
I just took up golf again after 22 years... and this might be the best driver advice I've ever heard. Going to try it this weekend 100%
Best of luck!
@@DanielMaude I put your advice into play and absolutely nailed 18 out of 20 drives on the range. Dead straight into the back net @220... Thank you!

@VonTwinzip that’s amazing. Well done 👏 Keep it up. Keep me updated on how you are playing 🙏🏻
Best coach on you tube by far 👏👏👏👏👌
Appreciate that Kevin, lot's of great coaches out there

You make golf simple and fun. You're the only golf instructor for me, thanks a million!
As a coach myself I heard often, you cannot teach feel, well you just Nailed That Lesson.
Thank You Danny.
@@ritadevlin910 really happy to hear that
Slow down the back swing. Helped me a ton when I picked up my first set of clubs. I was so used to just going after it that I kept slicing to the right. If you slow down the swing and then go for it, then you'll start noticing a difference. Stance and grip are important, but the swing 9 times out of 10 can kill your shot big time.
thanks for sharing Ryan
Danny great advice, I love the simple tweaks you give, things easy to remember but nothing dramatic.
Danny, as always - perfect.
You are a great communicator!
And have a great understanding of the swing!!

Glad it was helpful Joseph
I tried this at First Tee in Colorado Springs this afternoon. Down the middle. Thank you, sir. Now if I can just get my distance up from 210 yards carry. I’m working on weekly swing speed training.
Thanks Brian glad it helped!
How can the move be made automatic?)
I’ve been crossing my forearms over in the manner you described, and have been having a terrible time eliminating my slice…i can’t wait to try this process…
thank you!!
I think this is something you can’t consciously think about. Instead it’s a skill that requires time and practice
Just took up golf last year...and of course I have a wicked slice.
The courses aren't open yet (we still have snow), but I'm excited to try this out. It makes perfect sense, why hasn't anyone explained it so simply before.
Look forward to hearing how you get on Colin
Look forward to hearing how you get on
the draw stance you're advocating is one i actually have to use when putting to get me to bring the putter through in a straight faced single line, the stance corrects a misalignment in my shoulders i must have in my natural set up.
sounds like what the famous bobby locke did
I had to revisit this lesson after a terrible day of snap hooks off the tee. Can't wait to get back to the basics.
Love to hear how you get on
I'm sitting here with my mouth literally open while watching the video. Super! I now understand much more how it should be easier to play more consistent drives. Thank you!
Excellent..know when to the range, I'm not just staying with I was told. This lesson got me back on track for my draw..visuals are so great..
Fantastic advice, Danny, for the driver. It is my most difficult club to hit reliably. Will try some of your suggestions. Cheers.
Look forward to hearing how you get on
This is one of my favorite lessons to watch.
Thank you

Great video!! When you face slightly left, where exactly is the ball position?
Ball position remains just inside the lead heel
Danny, I am blown away. I chronically fade my driver. I get lucky and get straight shots sometimes but, never when it really seems to matter. I watched this, went straight to the driving range and I was consistently getting straight if not relatively or at least straight enough hits. I hit some draws, but almost no slices or fades. Still gonna take a little adjusting, but this is gonna be my new stance and swing. The first video I’ve watched where something actually worked when in comes to the slice or fade.
Thanks Jackson glad it helped you 😁⛳️
excellent and helpful discussion on hitting straight drives; still have problems hitting irons
