  • Aligned with our "Pupilage In South Africa" series, we have produced an episode that is aimed at assisting aspirant legal professionals with the pupillage application process o in South Africa.Having received an overwhelming response in the comments section of our first episode, we decided to produce this episode to deal specifically with some of the questions that were raised as a result.
This episode features, Samantha Moloi, a 2023 pupil at the Johannesburg Society of Advocates. She helps us unpack the intricacies involved when applying for pupilage in South Africa. She does this by giving us an overview of her experiences when she was applying.
We hope you enjoy this insightful sit-down interview that is aimed at helping you gain a better understanding of the pupilage application process in South Africa, as part of our podcast series.

Is there any possibility that you can elaborate on the question about : “ you don’t have experience, how will you get briefs and will you make money ?”

Thank you for this! Do you perhaps have any advice for those writing the entrance exams for pupillage (NBEB)?

I love it here. Does the pupilage training take you step by step from getting a brief to writing heads of arguments. Asking should one choose to go straight into the bar instead of doing articles?

    Hi there,
I am currently a law student and i wish to persue a career in advocacy.
My question is.... how necessary is it to have court experience for your application to be considered?

Hi Sinaloa, thank you for the insightful content. My question is can advocates work in the private sector after being in the public sector? How does it work, I keep seeing on social media that if you want to be an attorney at a Big Law firm then you should start there (private), because they do not take attorney’s from public, is it true?
