Hello! I am the designer that added the location with all the gas stations. That was the last thing I did at Avalanche before I left in the summer of 2016. If I remember correctly they were meant as a benchmark for some kind of Intel-update that was in the works. It was something about offloading effects to the cpu or something so they needed a scene with a lot of effects to really stress-test it. Not sure why that location is available to load on a public build - this was only meant for internal testing. This scene with all the gas stations exploding might have been in a BBC report on game dev around that time as well. I think they were doing an interview at Avalanche and they wanted to show some behind the scenes stuff and I think this was meant to be used for that as well. For that reason I set it up so there was something happening that caused all the gas stations to blow up. But my memory is a bit vague on this. This was something I put together during my last week at Avalanche and I had completely forgotten about it until I saw the clip here…
Wow that's cool! Thanks for sharing! The file with the events to blow them all up is still there too. There are other test locations left in as well, but nothing major. One is actually loaded in but it's just a bunch of floating fences out in the ocean
Most of the art assets that you see are placed in different location files and these location files are loaded/unloaded based on distance to the player. Mission related art and scripting are placed in location files that are loaded/unloaded through events. Some times designers create debug locations with stuff in them just to try out things but these debug locations shouldn’t be shipped with the game. My guess is that those fences were part of a test location but for some reason the fences were accidentally placed in a location that is distance loaded. This happened now and then but it was usually caught before release.
This video is severely underrated, I never knew just Cause 3 had so much cut content that seemingly had all the assets it just wasn't added, it's like they just left the files there for modders lmao.
Are the mod developers did anything good with these files? I never played multiplayer or modded just cause 3 but i want it! Also good content video. I never knew there are lot of files that out of content. Wooow!
I feel the police would have made the game a good amount more realistic. I do see a possible reason they were removed, there’s already a hostile authoritarian faction and having police might not have been needed since it’s just another group shooting at you. Also since Medici is more or less under martial law it would make sense for police cars to drive around and patrol. Yet it does make me sad to think we could have had a more civil group and some pretty more vehicles. I feel the Stria Joia and sedan (Autostraad D90 maybe) would be there plus the Stria Switzo could have been the “Riot” SWAT type vehicle. damn would have been cool….
someone can make a mod about that maybe, i already saw a police themed mod for jc3. would be cool to see the acutal medici police drive around instead (bad english sry)
I have never known an older toned down version of the Eden spark even existed, im actually glad they made it laser guided with the lightning. The leaf blower I’ll assume is an inspiration from propulsion gun in JC2

There's more unused content than just this, I'm guessing it just couldn't fit into this video's format. Voice lines that show alternate mission structures (such as why you're given a bike in Watcher on the Wall despite not needing it), mission fail conditions that can't happen, etc.
in 19:23 the uniforms of the police faction and very similar to the uniforms of our Italian Police the first uniform is black and identical to the uniform of the "carabinieri" a police group in Italy that is part of the italian army It's a shame they took it away

I seems pirates and mafia are not necessary for the theme of this game. Removing pirates and mafia can be make for strongest theme defining for this game. This game is an underrated masterpiece.
There's no police faction, so I can't say for sure. The police seems to have been from an earlier stage of development where perhaps the drm and militia weren't as big of a thing? But if they were to exist at the same time I'd assume they would be allied

That's one of the debug islands in the heta build. There's 24 more islands on top of the map with a ton of stuff on it
