Honestly bloody loved this video! Your points came across so well, and it is clear how frustrating it is to you. I think it's totally shocking that youtubers now effectively exploit their audience and their fan-base for money, but no-one discusses it. Good on you for doing just that, using your channel to be honest and for finally revealing what it's like on the other side outside of being a viewer. Brilliant job, please keep being honest - it's so refreshing.

Couldn't agree more, finally someone said it. Oli is not original at all and he's simply taking the idea of inspiration to a whole new level and completely copying every other "big youtuber" I have a lot of admiration for Joe Sugg who's videos are original and who's put a lot of effort into merch and username Evie etc but Oli just seems so vanilla and maybe if he risked it more and didn't follow everyone else he would be doing better

Enjoyed this video Jack! Think you had some valid points, we actually didn't realise this was going on whilst there. Although we were thinking "When is Oli going to make an appearance", as he never seemed to be around. It was great to see other TH-camrs such as yourself, WillNe, Dodie etc walking around and interacting with their fans and spending so much time with them.

i completely agree and i think youtubers are putting fans that buy merch on a pedalstall without realising and that is causing fans to buy products without liking the product to have a higher chance of being acknowledged in some way by their hero.

When I met Oli at his book signing, we weren't allowed to take our own pictures with him, and his management toom our phones and took them for us ? the photos looked shit and we had about 0.5 seconds with him and all he said was 'alright?'

as a past oli white fan, i can say you 100% are teling the truth here. the harsh truth. but the right truth. same with emma and dodie. they genuinly try. i've seen them both live and dodie chatted and made us feel welcome, accepted and not alone, and when emma preformed a girl next to me passed out and emma made sure she was okay before anything else happened. theyre both amazing. and deserve so much more attention from youtube then they are getting. theyre original. not a photocopy of hundreda of others of 'creators' who just recycle each others videos

I agree so much!! You can totally sell merch to make money yet still be authentic and honest. Just look at Hazel Hayes or KickThePj. Yes, they make money from viewers watching videos or buying merch, but they're so clearly videos and merch that they're selling for the pure facts that a) they love to create and b) they love to share what they create. I was suscribed to Oli a while ago. But there was a video where Josh Pieters made a prank video where he phoned friends and asked them to help him boost his channel by posting a picture on insta with caption “go subscribe to josh pieters” or something like that. And everyone he phoned were like cool with that, especially Joe, he didn’t even hesitated. but Oli didn’t want to, i was like dude! He’s your friend.
When he was starting out, Caspar and Joe helped him out so much. And now, when josh asked him (even though it was a prank) he straight up said no. I kinda started disliking him from there out.
Plus I feel like he uses his little brother for views.

being a graphic designer that works her socks off coming up with innovative and creative designs to then look at those t-shirts with the word 'oli' written on actually makes my blood boil that he can make money from that rubbish. As you said, there is no thought, effort or time being put into that and is taking full advantage of people to buy his dire 'designs.' It's actually ludicrous.
Whacking some crappy logo on plain boring objects and charging £15-£20.. that's at least 3/4 hours of someone working!

Kye I feel like in most of his videos, the merch is always mentioned in some way or another, and he's intentionally exploiting his young audience by doing so. The more they're told by their idol that they should buy something, the more likely they are to do it :/ It's all just about money unfortunately.
Good point, but the thing is for all large TH-camrs there will always be fans who buy their merchandise to support them without a thought on its quality, with this in mind it seems only fair that the person selling the stuff actually puts some decent effort to create something authentic and meaningful as a thank you to the die hard fans...

When Dodie and Bry stayed with me last time they were here in Australia, I sat back and watched them after their show and they literally stayed around to say hello to every single person that was there. Dodie is one of the sweetest people on the planet (as is Bry) and I think her merch is just so her! I find it sad that some TH-camrs don't put a lot of effort into their products or stop for a quick photo, if they have the time, for the people that support them.

Joe Sugg is brilliant! His content is innovative, original, hilarious, creative and high quality.. The others in that squad don't make TH-cam worthy content. At least no content to earn thousands of pounds with... their all just 'friend of Joe Sugg' and because of that reason we now have channels and merch too.. please! I do like some of them when they make a appearance in Joe's content, but that's it.

Out of all the big UK youtubers oli seems like he is only in it for the money, his content is very bland and gets most if his views and subs because of his brother, and happily goes around claiming to be a best selling author off the back of someone else's hardwork and talent...

I do love oli, but I completely agree. As oli has gotten bigger on TH-cam he has changed loads. He could've put so much more effort into his merch. Jack I love you and you're channel so much, you actually make your viewers laugh and give us incredible content whereas Oli has gone downhill content wise, which is such a shame really.
Me and my mate went to SitC and I was booked in for a Daz Black and Dodie meet and greet and I also met other TH-camrs along the way (including you) and everyone one I met seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. I witnessed Daz do back to back panels and still was incredibly friendly during the meet and greet. Sammy Paul was willing to spend five minutes talking about films with us. You had a proper conversation with us which made us feel really welcome. And finally where can I start on Dodie. Every time I walked past her merch stand she was there. How she has the energy to spend 12 hours meeting people is beyond me. Such a lovely person as well, willing to have a genuine talk with us about her music and our stories of discovering her music. So to hear this about Oli White really annoys me. Can't he have some decency to repay the debt he owes to his fan base.
