I am Installing stucco J trim, sometimes called casing beads, and or stucco stops around these exterior steel doors.
The J-Trim we are attaching is 7/8 thick to accommodate the depth of standard stucco walls.
On this property, we repaired two decks with a total of 30 steel doors, mixed with hundreds of feet of walls that were leaking.
These J-molds are usually installed around exterior steel doors to allow for expansion.
This is to stop the area around these heavy doors from cracking, as vibrations cause all stucco walls to crack.
You get a lot of vibrations around shutting or slamming heavy steel doors.
They were also specked out for windows to allow for expansion, however, in the last 15 years or so, most window frames have a built-in expansion flang rendering the use of these stucco stops useless.
Good thing as most of these do more damage than good., As they do tend to leak.

I am learning so much. I bought a 70 year old stucco home. A previous homeowner did the stucco right up to the windows. No J-rail, no z flashing, no sill tape, nothing. Which of course has led to stucco cracks around the windows. I'm doing my best to mediate that when I replace the windows. Good times!
GMARIN how did you project come out. I'm currently in the same situation with my home. all new windows are in and I'm about to patch all the stucco
Hi kirk and jay thanks for posting video looks a tricky job ! Good point about caulking behind trim! Kind regards nick
Hi Nick, it's boring work but someone's got to do it, they trust us to take the time out and make certain it's bullet proof.
Cheers,

good vid. thank you.
How long before that galvanized edge butted against the metal frame before it starts rusting? I’m doing something similar butted against the back of a wood jamb, im on the fence of using an aluminum L molding.
I always prepunched my trim metal if I encountered this situation. I like using my Whitney Punch.
Greetings Wayne, excellent idea. I have many staple guns but only one old one that will penetrate two metals flanges like there was on this doorframe.

kirk. I'm using j trim around my new windows. most of them are set back deep into the block wall. do you recommend that j channel at the bottom of the windows as well?
Greetings Joseph, I'm installing J trim here as it's a commercial building. I don't recommend J trim for any jobs unless hey are specked out in the prints or drawings. Nor do I recommend them for residential work. That being said, if your going to use them on the sides and the top use them on the sill or bottom, also.

Hi Kirk, do you have to caulk the verticals around where the stucco was cut out so there won't be leaks behind where it ties in to the existing paper?
Good evening Charlie, good question,
when in doubt caulk them.
In some cities it is required while in others inspectors say it loses the keys to vertical stucco strength.

Thanks captain.
Did you use a J trim on top of the door like on the sides?
Good Evening plant-based MD dude, this is what I was talking about on the last-mail, this is a commercial property, this J trim is specked out in the prints,
residential homes dont require them in our area, the S.F bay area.

What happened to inside corner expansion?
Evening dsbuilder76, the inner expansion joint was installed but I guess it was not in at the ending, there was a serious inspector dude on this project, if a staple was out of line we were called on it.
cheers.

What size are those j Chanel? 1/2, or 7/8?
Howdy Mike, excellent question. they ar 7/8. If they were only 1/2 inch the stucco would not be true or level.
We always have to match the depth of the stucco.😏
When you apply the cement on the wall
Howdy 09 dude, sorry, that's in another video as this one was getting too long, we do have hundreds of other video's showing my favorite part, applications.

Where do you find that J trim? I can't seem to locate a place that carries it, or at least one that looks like the one you are using.
Good afternoon Wesley, try googling plaster yards in your area.
