Was VERY unlucky Clemence and Shilton were ahead of him. Cannot understand how it was perceived Corrigan was the number three by the late 70s though. Should have won more than his one cap
I was at the league Cup semi final game that Phil was talking about. Absolutely agree, even the memory of the atmosphere in Upton Park that night still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!
Terrific keeper & genuine nice guy ⚒⚒⚒⚒🙌⚽️ I remember standing behind the goal at QPR all westham giving him loadsa stick about the hairspray adverts he'd recently done . When we signed him I couldn't believe it, Proper quality, best keeper I've seen at westham, even better than fabianski imo , who's my 2nd favourite whu keeper . ..I agree with everyone else Len , terrific video , great to see players from those days ( my mid teens) brings back great memories, cheers #CTL 👍👍⚒
An absolute top man and keeper, thoroughly enjoyed watching Phil play for us, never let you down.. This was a terrific interview and Phil's hardly changed a bit, every West Ham fan should watch this interview..
It was a good move for Phil - he won the FA Cup at West Ham and played in a great side. QPR were short sighted. Yes, they got a lot of money for him, but seeing as they got relegated six months later, and were no-longer playing Man United, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool etc. they would have lost all that money from revenue in the following 12 months !
The whole clear out of players at LR was short sighted, Gentlemen Jim wanted money back so got Frank Sibley to get rid of them all really... never reached those heights again and never will.
@@danabrahams7892 Agree. Selling Dave Thomas to Everton was on a par with the sale of Parkes. Losing one of the best wingers in the country, with all the assists he gave, was nothing short of crazy. It really hurt the team. Had they kept the spine of that side - Bowles, Francis, Thomas, Parkes, Masson - they would still have been a force for another 2 years.

Len, New subscriber here, great video, WHU had another record GB signing in Bobby Ferguson from I believe Aberdeen. 65000 at the time. I think Mervyn Day lost confidence with the WH defense that season.
I got my first pair of goalie gloves from phil parkes sports shop in shepherds bush black and red all weather with a big letter p stamped on the back of the glove played for eton porny junior school let 8 goals in then told by mr brown the games teacher your not a keeper and moved me to centre forward cos he thought at least he knows where the goal is,
Great doc, although i hate West Ham, growing up in the late 70s-80s who couldnt forget Parkes and that tash. West Ham was ok team mid 70s not in league but ok in cups and early 80s in old div 2 we played em quite a few times on and off the pitch.

The side that QPR had when he was there was the best we've ever seen and he's still one of the first names that comes to mind.

When I started going, I went with my mate from school, who was a QPR supporter and Phil was injured with a season-long floating knee bone.

I saw him in Castle Road Supporters Bar around 2005. I was a bit surprised and starstruck so I didn't go over and speak to him haha.
