A very informative video this was…. That thimble prusik has been on my want list for some time.., u just talked me into it! Also, that’s a great tip on the friction breaking pull down. I will b trying that. I only climb in the early morning hours here in Florida ( in the summer) as it is too damn HOT.Thanks for yr work n take care!
Is the hipstar flex lanyard a flexible metal core lanyard or something of sort? I was looking at this kit a week ago or so. Pretty expensive, even the replacement lanyard rope itself is expensive. It looks like it's just a 24 strand rope. In comparison, I can get a 12 ft yale kernmaster explorer rope only lanyard for almost half the price of hipstar flex rope only.
@@AerialTravelerself built lanyards are basically all I have used, besides metal core flip line. I wasn't aware of certified lanyards until my training course a few weeks ago, when I had a debate with the instructor. Maybe you or one of your viewers can answer this: what is the deal with requiring a certified lanyard? If you compare a lanyard and an MRS system, they are basically the same thing, an adjustable basket. Only difference is length of rope, and with the lanyard you are more likely to have more ware in the same place. I still can't let it go why it's acceptable to build your own climbing system using rated components, but for your lanyard it's not. I can understand if you spliced or sewn the eyes your self, but if your using acceptable termination knots or supplier made eye splice I don't think there is an issue. Not trying to be a dick or what not, just something that has been bothering me ever since. I'm not a professional climber, but do intend to be looking for an arborist apprenticeship shortly here. I kind of wonder if you're employer would require a certified lanyard. Obviously, if you are working for your self it wouldn't matter. The instructor commented that it wouldn't be allowed at competition, so that gets me thinking about the employer thing. I'm in Ontario Canada.
