    that “stay within the bevel” comment is golden wey, idk how many times i planned to do a 3 bead cap and end up doin 4 because i blew my bevel out onna fill for movin too wide.

      It happens to all of us brother. Trying to keep the welds clean you over think. When in reality is as simply as staying within. Thanks for watching bro. This shit has happened to all of the welders I guarantee.

    If I were given a choice I'd say, 1/32. root opening with a 16th of a inch root face and 5/32 rod.

    This is an awesome video as well as awesome looking beads. I'm new to welding & have been out in my shop practicing & running beads & joining pieces together. I've been learning the basics from my brother, who has been welding for 30 yrs. I do have a couple questions for ya & I apologize for asking. . . . . .1.) "What is the reason for leaving the small gap between your 2 pipe pieces before ya begin running your joining root pass? 2.) Why not let the 2 pieces touch directly to each other & then start your joining root pass? Thankya for sharing. I hope I can be as good as ya'll😃👍🏼

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don’t have to apologize brother. No question is stupid in this world. But the gap in between the two joints is too adhiere inside penetration. Without a gap it’s possible to get a root in but you will have a harder time.

      @@VantageWelding Okie dokie. . . . I really appreciate ya taking the time to text me back to answer my questions.. Thankya sir. I'm trying to learn all i can👨‍🏭 & get in the much needed practice👨‍🏭. I've been trying my best with the "uphill", using 1/8 7018, but i suck & i dont like the 7018 rod. I'm running at 115amps. I'm using an ole 50 yr old Lincoln 225amp arc welder that's in great shape. My grandpa bought it in the mid 70s & dad used it thru the yrs until 2016. I'm having alot of fun, needless to say😃👍🏼. Im a new subscriber to your channel, if that's okay with ya👍🏼!

    Thanks for the video. Why do you use a 6010 for the root? Why not 7018 for that as well? or some other rod, like a 6013?

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      6010 +++ is specified for root passes. 7018 is not a penetrating rod. And 6013 is a cheap farm rod not intended for use in quality welds.

    Can you do a video with tips on how to do restarts on your cap with 8010. ?

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can give you a tip. When you pull out, pull out by pushing down and away from puddle. That would leave a voided space shaped like a spoon. You go back into that cracker, refill and take off.

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wally the weld professor has some awesome content regarding restarts on 8010. One of the slickest welders out there brother.

    Land always uniform and same thickness both sides. Then you only have to look at the top of the land to know exactly what is inside . When doing Tie ins it makes life easy and your heat sink is uniform too

    Think you can do a 6010 5p all the way out , haven’t seen a video yet of people doing 6010 caps. Been looking around to see what motion guys use to get it nice and stacked.

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same thing bro. No lie. 6010 doesn’t like to stack as good as 7010 or 8010. So for your last fill I’d leave it a bit bumpy so you can just skate a cap on there.

    Slick.. if you had the choice. Would you rather cap wit 6010 7010 or 8010. I'm normally a TIG 7018 kind of welder but lately I've been doing a lot of downhill 6010 at work I was wanting to buy some 70 or 80 but not sure what would run better

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t really like to use 6010 other than for the roots due to the fact that they won’t carry metal as good as a 8010. 8010s freeze up faster than a 6010. And as far as 7010, you can slick those out too as well, just get ready to get burned the **** up lol. I prefer a hood ol’ 8010 pipeliner over any rod. 8010 downhill over any process. 🦾🦾 thanks for watching

      A. Grinding too much
      B. Excess Amperage

    Two things, on your keyhole how you get around them, when you're coming to a stop pull your rod out FAST, real quick that way the keyhole will be small but if you pull your rod out slow then it will get bigger much bigger. 2ND, why don't you weld the pipe in the 5g position, how often does a welder weld pipe somewhat down hill while the pipe is being rotated, I've never seen the pipe rotating on a pipeline while welding.
