Shout out my boy Marco for that. He used to be my helper back when we pipelined. Now we work together he’s a plant operator here. So he knows exactly what to record. Thanks to him this video was a bit better than the others. It’s hard to make quality videos when it’s yourself doing all of it. I appreciate you noticing the difference brother. Salute

Around the 13:15 mark you can see your ground arcing out , I always clean the slag so it can sit directly onto the metal it really messes with these newer machines especially the ones that are trying to sense the arc (pipe pros and the Mp from Lincoln ) Saludos

I am definitely not a pipe welder I've done a few small pipe fitting jobs and can make it look ok, I've never taken any kind of pipe test, and for some reason i was thinking the branch was supposed to tie in to the inside of the pipe which blew my freaking mind. "Demand better pay etc." Great theory Ol' Mate.
      Good luck there.
I started getting formal welding lessons from 1971 onwards, and around 1980 I started to get some $ recognition for my abilities,.
The drilling and mining sectors are some of the few places that can afford to pay good welders something like the money that they should get payed.
I could really have a nice ol' rant here, but I'm pretty mellow these days.
My main point is, anyone who does a job well, should get paid well.

Ik this video is old but I’m learning how to weld pipe I’m at the point where I can get a decent root they just come out a lil flat. On my tighter gaps I’m running it between 80-90 amps with 90 dig, hearing your say you had yours at 60 percent made me think is that why it’s coming out so flush should I have my DIG lower while staying in between those amps or keep my DIG high and turn my amps down?

      I’m using 1/8” 6010 around 85-95 for root
8010 5/32” around 125-135 amps brother. But my pipe was a scd 80. Close to 375 wall. It’s a lot more forgiving on root and hot pass.

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@brodyrhode9064 keep running them 3/32 brother. If you’re blowing though a saddle chances are it’s too thin, excessive grinding, or maybe too high of voltage and staying too long in one spot. 3/32 is king for a weld like that specially since your still in school brother. No need too rush into 1/8. Truth be told, out in the field you can run 3/32 just as fast as you can with 1/8” rod in smaller pipe. Any reason you can’t use 1/8 6010 on the hot pass? Would most branch test just have 6010 root and the rest HYP or 8010?

You have to follow weld procedure brother. I wish I knew the answer as to why you can’t. But I don’t. All I know is if you weld clean you will be 100% good

I never cared for this test, doesn't make sense that it is still used for 1104 test. Yet I only once did such a procedure, but it was temporary.

Ahh. Yes sir. It has to. You have to catch both walls because your straps will be bent. If there is lock of fusion or incomplete penetration, they will break at the weakest point.

@@VantageWelding Yes, experience is the word.
I am a "Master Plate Welder", although I am not a machine. I spent around 28 years as a Welder. I appreciate your experience but in my experience I didn't do a lot of SMAW, or MIG welding. I worked in Aircraft/Aerospace. If you can TIG weld material .005 - .010 inches thick, you're hired. And TIG weld an aluminum can back together, again, you're hired. Now however, lasers do that easily.
One thing I didn't see was cleaning the weld where you left off, aren't those welds to be of X-Ray quality? Mine are, and sometimes we all fail X-Ray.

Yeah bro. On the throats it was a simple pause whip puse. And on the ears where I needed a bit more metal I was pausing more up top. And doing kind of like a slight side ways j motion if that makes any sense.
