- The Washington State Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, King County, the City of Seattle and the Port of Seattle, is leading a program to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct section of State Route 99, which runs along Seattles downtown waterfront.
For the viaduct section between S. King Street and the Battery Street Tunnel, there is an ongoing environmental process that is reviewing three alternatives previous cut-and-cover tunnel and elevated structure alternatives and a bored tunnel alternative recommended in January 2009. This simulation shows the bored tunnels proposed route beneath downtown Seattle and its proximity to other underground structures.
A second Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement for this project will be published in fall 2010. More information regarding the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement is available at www.alaskanwayviaduct.org
The proposed SR 99 bored tunnel is being designed to withstand an earthquake that only happens every 2,500 years on average (in the range of a 9.0 on the Richter scale) without collapsing. We have information on our website www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viad... describing how tunnel construction would affect properties along the bored tunnel's proposed route. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
@goldfndr The proposed bored tunnel would run beneath a portion of First Avenue, while the transit tunnel runs beneath Third Avenue. The transit tunnel appears in purple on the right side of the video image. The tunnels University Station is labeled at the 2 minute 20 second mark. - WSDOT

I didn't see any building foundations. It seems like those big buildings would have foundations that would extend at least as far into the ground as the docks and viaduct, since they are so much heavier. Does the tunnel not go under or near any big buildings?
May God save you any suffering if you were caught in that tunnel during an earthquake!
Arch Michael which is why i dont believe it will be.
@goldfndr
It is dark magenta visible on the right from about one minute to 2:45 in the simulation
What software did you use for the 3d modeling and for the camera flyby? Also what software did you use for the map and the text. The reason I am asking is because I've been tasked to do something very similar and I am simply gathering information. Especially the map how did you do tracking? Thanks
What software did you use for the 3d modeling? I have the same case and I am wondering about the program :/
A program called 3ds Max, an Autodesk product, was used to create the SR 99 Bored Tunnel Underground Simulation.
Why can't we see video of all of the underground building foundations? I'm pretty sure 1st-2nd ave has a few deep ones in that area.
CooLDsteR Ah, not sure if new, but just noticed the clearance dimensions.
Where does the tunnel come out of the ground? Isn't that in an area that is close to sea level? I thought sea level rise could be 2 to 3 feet within the next few decades.
Is the Transit tunnel too far away/below to be rendered?
How many building will get damage???
all of them it the path
How many miles ?
Is anybody still commenting on this?
well... you... and I guess me...
I wonder if Karl Kolchak is under there? Looking for photo phobic alligators? lol
The tunnel will be a lot safer than the viaduct, Arch.
lmao
No to the tunnel. No to any 99 rebuild. Full stop.
too small it was so post to be 5 lanes both ways voters did not get what we pad for bad planing bad tunnel wast of tax dollars Seattle voters will never do this again bad ventilation unsafe for driving too much smog in the tunnel WI the hell anyone pay 10 to go north or south no thanks I5 is free so i`ll use I5 R.I.p old sr99 you will be missed
