Picked up Ronnie’s last week for $90. Just a neck pour so far, but it might be my favorite of recent batches. I think the silky, viscous texture sets it apart from my 2020 and 2021 bottles. I’ll taste it with Pigskin soon and see how it fares after a little air, but at < $100 I’ll be one of the people still grabbing Booker’s off store shelves.
Thanks for the review. To me, Booker's jumped the shark a couple of years ago and I haven't bought a bottle since the price point passed $60. I'm not paying $100 bourbon that's just "not bad". I'll take Jack Daniels SiB Barrel Proof any day over Booker's. Elijah Craig BP and Larceny BP are also both superior and less expensive. That said, Booker's is hard to find here in CA. I think people have become obsessed with collecting all the batches..
Sarah, I do agree with you, I will not pay $100 for a Booker's. I do not believe it is worth it. $75 maybe. Long time lurker love It's Bourbon Night channel.
I love me some Booker's and I pretty much buy every batch I can find. Sadly, I haven't seen a bottle on the shelf since last summer. Bourbon prices have increased across the board and Booker's no longer seems expensive in comparison. I prefer it to most of the ECBP releases which are usually close to $80 these days.
I still like Bookers but unfortunately haven’t seen one in 3 yrs. Would love to get another one. Always appreciate the open mind attitude you put forth. I’ll still probably grab one if I ever see it again just cause I miss having a bottle around. That’s me. Thanks For the review.
Hey Chad and Sarah. I'm a huge fan of the channel. Thanks for all the work that you guys do. I'm a huge Booker's fan myself it's near and dear to my heart. Booker's was the reason I fell in love with whiskey. I do think the year of 2015 is the year to beat. Center cut, Oven buster were some of my personal favorites. I purchased every offering that I could find. Until about 2019 then I fell out of love but still wanted to date. So would grab Ham country. 2020 was the pigskin.. 2021 was Donohoes. They were all ok. Nothing amazing. I'm optimistic they will return to there former glory. They are so many other offers that I find myself pouring. Rare breed, Four Roses SB, Bakers, George Remus.. etc..
I picked up one of these a few weeks ago. It was 79.99 here in WNC. I like it quite a bit, not as good as others I have had but it has opened up pretty nicely now. I would pay up to 100 for a bottle as I get it once a year and baby it.
Bookers was my first high proof bourbon, blew my doors off. Had to take my glass and go sit outside at a party. That was 8ish yrs ago, I'm waiting on the next well recieved batch to put on my shelf... Looks like im waiting until the end of the year at the least
I haven’t purchased Booker’s in 4 years when I found it in Chicago for $50… Rare Breed or Knob Creek Single Barrel store picks for $45-55 all day long before Booker’s
My favorite bookers to date. I get vanilla custard taste and finish, some carmel drizzled on a stave as well. The nose opened up more to a ecbp on a lighter less dense scale. All from a neck pour I'm excited to see how it opens up! People are going to pay because of the exclusivity, packaging and the story I feel. 99 here in Michigan and the curiosity on what the next batch brings still has my interest.
Have about 20 Bookers releases, I was able to find them in various states and as far back as 2015. Prices from $90-155. Scarcity is driving a lot of price issues of course but Blantons here in Orlando is hard to find and never less than $250, same for Elmer and forget about any of the BTAC. At those prices I am unsure they come close to same value as Bookers. Barrel proof for around $110 on limited release that delivers 75-85% of the time seems like a solid value and occasionally they score a very nice release as you said worthy of a blind review for best of year. I think the value of these is always in range. Same can’t be said for so many special releases! Your comments always help in my purchase so thank you!!
Same. Just picked up a bottle of it yesterday. My first bottle of bookers. Only had one pour at a bar, didn’t have sense enough to ask the batch but thoroughly enjoyed it.
I found the bookers 2022-02 batch for 80$ at cosco and 90$ at a different store. Prices seem to be fluxuating depending on the store. I happen to really enjoy bookers so i like to buy them if i got the coin layin around
I am in NW Pennsylvania and have hunted all summer in many stores , SW New York and NW Pennsylvania to no avail on bookers. Try to order from state store and they say get in store only. Now I buy it to sit on not drink unless I get an extra bottle. I do love it but it is all different obviously. Still impossible to find on my area. My store finally got it in last week after asking all summer but it flies away in a day they tell me.
I was just in a store recently which had ECBP at $80 and Booker's at $110. That reflects what I've often seen and it's not even a close call at that price. Double the age statement, $30 less, and on a personal note the HH profile is more in alignment with my preferences. I have spent over $100 on sourced stuff but only if the ages are higher (Sam Houston, Bardstown discovery etc) but not on anything near this young.
I think Bookers is a solid bourbon no matter what batch you get it’s better than a lot of other high priced allocated bourbons. It’s better than any Bardstown Discovery or Calumets. And they are cost more than Bookers. I live in Virginia and bought the last four Batches Bardstown , Noe Strangers, Ronnie’s, and Lumberyard batches and they are all Solid pours. Country Ham is my Favorite batch and it was my First Bookers I’ve ever bought.
My nearby ABC store had an unannounced drop 2 days ago with a nice selection of limited availability: ECBP, Larceny (C921), Booker's 2022-01, I W Harper, Henry McKenna 10, Sazarac Rye, Eagle Rare 10, and BT. One rule - only allowed to buy one. Although I knew ECBP and Larceny we're solid high-proof picks, I bought Booker's naively expecting a quality pour without a "heavy knockout punch" and it's distinctive wooden box seemed to "lure" me into the purchase. I've never had Booker's before, I'm only a year into sampling different bourbons, and still discovering my preferences. I'm sure I'll enjoy Ronnie's Batch, but after watching a few reviews, I have some "buyer's remorse." I enjoyed your honest review. Thanks.
ECBP batches come out 3 times a year and are 12 year age stated and mostly Great pours.. Those retail at 70 bucks, that's a pretty solid this vs that for price point. Will say though, the box display and the story cards are pretty cool and welcomed!
This is my first Booker's and it was the only bottle of Booker's my store had seen in years. Interestingly I don't pull any smoke or nutty notes out of my bottle at all. I get a sweet cream soda profile with a hint of oak and cherry. I also thought it was extremely smooth for the proof. I paid 120 after tax and I would pay that again.
Bookers fan boy!! I'll have the Bookers vertical every year, even though its becoming harder and harder to find here in my area (Indy) Thank goodness for the whiskey tube community and friends all throughout!! JDSBBP and ECBP are both heading north of $75-$80 and becoming scarce as well.
You have both made me a Booker's fan. Canada only gets the 01 for each year though, so I have missed out on all the good ones you rave about. However, I really enjoyed the 2020-01. I will pick up this year's offering if I can find it on sale. Cheers.
The last Booker's was 2019-03 County Ham...which has not been matched or beating. Anything over $85 is a Strong Pass as the selection of other juice is excellent. Maybe a New Master Distiller is in order.
I agree with Sarah, I’m happy to pay 100(or more) for a barrel proof product if it’s good. That’s the problem here, it just isn’t that good. Hasn’t been since 2018 and the price continues to rise. I won’t be buying Booker’s again until they start releasing better tasting bourbon again.
This batch is actually the first one I have been able to get my hands on. So I don’t have any others to compare to. I haven’t cracked it yet so I’m curious if I get some of the same feelings as y’all did.
The last Bookers I got was the Pigskin Batch. I have 2 of them when I found them for $85. Since my locals now only carry it for between $95 & $125. I'm out at thay price until I know its better.
You know I had to get this. So glad you decided to review this. It's funny when I first saw this I wasn't even shopping for me I was buying a bottle of wine for a friend😂 I bought 2 bottles it was ok. I'm going to save one of the bottles & open it at a later date see if it changes. Thanks for the video 🥃
I had some bookers at a local spot there was just enough left for one pour. They said they have had it for a long time it was batch no C07-A-12 aged 7yrs 0mo. 130.6 proof. It was pretty good. Not sure what year it was from?? Any info would be awesome! Thanks! Love the channel!
I was a huge Bookers fan, but eventually, I found myself buying Knob Creek single barrel at 9yrs old and 120 proof for not quite half the price of Bookers. It’s hard to justify the extra cost for Bookers these days. Just my thoughts.
Interesting theory. How would us comparing current Booker's releases of the last 2 years to some of our favorites from 2016, 2017, and 2018 cloud our judgement? Guess I'm failing to see the connection since every time we taste a new release of Booker's, we're hoping that we enjoy it as much as we enjoy previous releases. If we had written off Booker's like many other reviewers on WhiskeyTube have done, then I could see it, our judgement would be clouded because we want to further a stance we've taken, but it's quite the opposite, we would very much love to have a "comeback" batch of Booker's.
Jmho, ecbp still sets the bar. 12yr, age stated, barrel proof for $70 to $80. On top of that ecbp suits my personal pallet better. Bookers at 5 to 7yr and $100 is an extremely easy pass for me. I have a bottle of country ham im still working on. It sits mostly full bc i just wasn't to impessed and rarely think to go to it.
@@rdh5961 and best depends entirely in whos drinking it. Theres plenty of critics i dont trust. Not liking country ham doesnt mean you wont like the others. Thats not how individual taste works.
Bookers has a bold flavor profile and you're either into it or you're not. Within that, there are also better batches than others. There are a few that are in my top 5 of all bourbons.
2 KC SiB store picks or 2 rare breeds for 1 bookers. Also almost stopped buying ECBP which is now 80 usually at min. I think 70ish for bookers would be the most I will go on it. But I’m also a cheap buyer as well tho
I haven't bought a bottle in some time since the Knob Creek 120 Single Barrels I've had would outshine the 3 batches of Bookers I've tasted against them. This was when they were 70ish, so no ill leave the Bookers for the fan boys and drink the Knob Creek if I'm wanting some Beam nuttiness.
To be honest, I can buy Elijah Craig Barrel proof for 70-80 bucks at 12 years old or a 9yrs plus Knob Creek Single Barrel store pick for 50 bucks…..why would I buy Booker’s again???
Hadnt had a bookers in a long time. Stopped buying them due to the price increase. Had noe strangers at a bar the other day along with the new jack bondeds. Of the 3, the bookers was my least favorite. Its a bit of a problem (at least for bookers) when the new available $30 bottle beats the $100 semi limited bottle. At least both are pretty easy to get.
Ok ive only moved to bourbon a few years ago. So i dont have perspective many do. I picked up tagalong and bardstown batch last year. I did prefer tagalong, but its harder for me to justify $80 when i can pick up a tasty knob creek barrel pick for 50. As long as i can find a KC im not sure im going to buy a bookers. Someone tell me my process is wrong, please.
I just don’t understand bookers when you can get knob creek single barrel picks, that are going to be at least nine years old almost barrel proof for like $60.
Definitely disappointed with the price increase, but I still personally can’t pass on a Booker’s. Just had the Bardstown Batch and the finish alone is worth it for me.
"The Best part of Bourbon Night, is Booker's in your cup!" I dunno...or something. LOL. I haven't had a Booker's myself. At one point I might, but I am fully living in Mid-budget territory right now.
I enjoyed both Donahoes and Bardstown batch from 2021. Got one for $78 and the other for $90. Ive seen it for $100-120. I wouldn’t pay $100 for one. I get what you two are saying about the good batches being worth the money, but the thing is that they don’t last on shelves so it’s not like you really have time to do some research. If you see it, you have to make the decision with little info. If this was a new product with a less rich bloodline, people would be calling it overpriced. This is why I’ll likely stop buying it as the price goes above $90 here.
The problem for me with Bookers is it disappears from the shelves almost immediately so I have to buy it on the spot when I see it before I can read any reviews, and at 100 that’s a big gamble. If I see it I’ll grab the KC12 for less and is consistently solid.
My issue with Booker's has less to do with the price and more to do with the downturn in quality. Over the past 2 years, I've bought 4 batches (2020-01, 2020-03, 2021-03, and 2022-01) and at the very least tried the other batches and the only one I've loved is the 2020-01 "Granny's Batch". It's incredibly frustrating that as the price rises, the quality doesn't, especially as there are so many more delicious barrel proof offerings around at a lower price point. I think it's reputation has taken a hit and it's now generally seen as very low value. In Los Angeles, there are actually a few stores that still have the 2021-04 sitting on the shelves for $100 aand they've been sitting there for months.
Late to the party; but the price hike and going into allocation was 100% by design. That's why customers are writing it off. It's the same thing they did with Bakers that was dead on the shelf. Additionally; why would I buy either when I can get Knob Creek 9yr for under $40, KC 12yr for under $80. Speaking of which stores were consistently getting 15yr KC picks for $50 until they pulled the plug, dropped the proof, threw it in a box and started charging $120. And that's why I don't buy beam products anymore
I dunno, i have two bottles of 2018 Kitchen Table, one of them opened, and it'll probably stay at its current fill level for a loooooong time and the other will collect dust and look pretty. I liked it back then when i was new to cask strength, but as I've grown and explored, i have come to realize that its just simply not good. Light in its one flavor note, no finish, and really harsh. I didnt plan on buying another when they were 60 and people loved it... buying one at 100 when everyone says its getting worse is a hard pass for me.
not a fan of the Beam to start with, that being said I feel these are overrated and overpriced. ECBP's are slightly cheaper, better and 12 yrs, much better IMO. I feel you're paying for packaging. don't get me wrong id drink them all day for $60-$70
"Not a bad whiskey" and "worth paying $100 for" should never describe the same bottle. There are VERY few bottles of bourbon I'll pay 100+ for, and they're all incredibly good. Over Bookers I'll get Knob Creek 120, ECBP, any Remus at cask strength (mostly store picks, admittedly), etc There are just way too many very good, cask strength offerings out there with several more years of age and complexity to them, at a cheaper price than Booker's for it to be on my list.
There are too many bad values in bourbon for bookers to be the worst. That said, there are much better limited release scarce bourbon for this to even compete with. It's better as a expensive special occasion available bourbon than it's a pain in the ass hunters bourbon.
If I see bookers I buy bookers. Trouble is now it’s infrequent to see it. Luckily it’s not “allocated” in my state so I can find if it’s in stock on their app
Just scored a bottle from batch 2022-03. So excited!
I haven't bought a bottle of bookers since country ham...and I think I miss the 15 yo knob creek picks more.

Absolutely agree!

What are some legendary bookers batches? I've heard 2019 country ham. Any from the early or mid 2000s worth seeking out?
Country Ham was pretty good. Some of our older favorites are 2018-04 Kitchen Table, 2017-02 Front Porch Batch, and 2017-03 Sip Awhile.
Just got 2019-01 and 2019-04 for under 260 total. How did I do? Are those good ones?

Found one for 65 dollars in Walgreens the other day when I was going for a beer run I’d check your local Walgreens if they sell booze
Country ham was great
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎😎😎😎
Retail for 2022-01 on DOD installations is $102.95
To be honest, I can buy Elijah Craig Barrel proof for 70-80 bucks at 12 years old or a 9yrs plus Knob Creek Single Barrel store pick for 50 bucks…..why would I buy Booker’s again???
New sub ! Liked ✌️🤩👍
I’ll buy that shirt. But trademark may be a pain
Couldn't agree more.
$139 at VA ABC....
Nice Wu-tang whiskey shirt!
I like Bookers. But not at $99 to $109 which is what I see here in Texas.
you didnt like 2021-03 Bardstown? i thought thought it was one of the better batches in quite a while.
Sh%t, it just dropped in San Diego.
For me , the 2021's 3rd release, the Bardstown batch, was awesome.
Mad respect for the Wu tang inspired Whis-key t-shirt. However, just a little sadden that I was the first to comment 😞
They definitely lack depth in my ecperience
I feel people don't want to pay for bookers because 120 proof 9 year Knob Creek, from the same distillery is so much better and cheaper.
2019-04 was the last batch I liked. It hasn't been great lately.
There's nothing wrong with morning drinking...
Booker hasn't been really on the shelf in 5 plus years here. 110$ plus if we do see it.
I hope the whiskytube keeps trashing Bookers. It’s getting hard to find here in Texas…
$$ for burning fire wood. 😳
Picked up a 2021 - 4 for $85 a couple months ago. Just cracked it last night and wasn’t super impressed. Not bad but wouldn’t buy that batch again.
$100 for a 7yo barrel proof when you can get ECBP at 12yo for $70-75? I’ll save the $30 and go ECBP and a Coopers Craft.
If you can't find it then obviously people are buying it.
Boycotting Bookers. Last buy was Beaten Biscuits
Not a fan of Bookers, I would much rather buy some Rare Breed
not a fan of the Beam to start with, that being said I feel these are overrated and overpriced.
Not a fan of Bookers. At all.
If I see bookers I buy bookers. Trouble is now it’s infrequent to see it. Luckily it’s not “allocated” in my state so I can find if it’s in stock on their app
