    Thanks for the follow up vid. I was really happy with the Mobius fit, and the guys at the shop were too. I went for it because of the excellent fitment, not necessarily because it was good value.

    I purchased Mobius braces before this video came out.
    I find them comfortable and when first fitted, they seem to support well.
    However, after about an hour into ride, the Velcro straps come undone and then obviously they aren't supporting my knees correctly any longer.
    I've sent a message to Mobius and they're very interested in helping improve the product. They're sending out some modified straps to report back on.
    This kind of product support is important to me. 👍

    I use the Astrisk Cyto cells however I think the most important thing is correct fitting, everyone's legs are different so make sure you try them on! if buying online ask for returns policy. The Mobis ones have good coverage but tend to snag the riding pants in the hinge cap and the wires break.

    I just had knee arthroscopy done to get rid of some loose bodies removed due to damaged cartilage. My surgeon also informed that my ACL is damaged too. Don't know how I caused either of these as I don't play contact sport and only got into dirt bike riding after having knee problems. Factory defect as my GP called it. Will definitely speak to my health insurer and see if they'll cover the cost of braces. I'll need them once I've fully recovered.

    I ride the mobius braces for more than a year now. I had the "locking up" problem in the beginning which was caused by my pant slipping between the middle and upper Part of the brace while sitting on the bike. My pants were relatively cheap and then i bought a fox 360 combo. This pant is working great with the brace, since then i had no mayor problems. But the metal wire broke on one side so i had to buy a repair kit (50$) and repair it (by myself), but it was relatively easy

    After watching this video a couple years ago I've bought an Leatt c-frame knee brace. It was really uncomfortable but I wasn't riding without them anyway, then I crashed on a rock garden of super enduro track and that crash broke my knee brace (there were two steel cables on its hinges one of them was broken and also knee cap protector was broken). I've decided to buy a new one and I've bought an x frame since I felt more comfortable. When the first time I was riding with them I couldn't see a small wet log sitting with cross angle to my front tire. I've crashed again and this time I've heard a pop sound on my knee and it really hurt. After examination and MRI my ACL was completely torn sadly. I've crashed many times with c frame and most of them were way worse than this one but I can't be sure if it's happened because of x frames are not great braces or something extraordinary happened. Maybe the brace have done its job as much as it could (my meniscus looks ok on MRI for instance and other ligaments are ok too.) but I would highly suggest to get custom knee brace if you can before any injury happen. Because there is no perfect way to reconstruct your ACL and it's one of the worse injuries.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's very hard to know how will a knee brace has worked because of course they don't always prevent injuries. injuries from hyper-extension can be reduced significantly but other types the braces aren't so effective. But we do know that a good quality knee brace that fits your knee correctly will be the best protection usually.

    I am actually awaiting the arrival of a set of Mobius X8's. An ankle injury late last year has prompted me to seek better protection, resulting in the recent purchase of Sidi Crossfire 2's and then the Mobius. My uber thick, short fat legs have always been a problem for fitment of boots (calves...) and proper knee braces (thighs...). Inspired by the discovery that the Sidi's adjust to fit my gorilla calves, I started looking for large and adjustable knee braces. According to the fitting measurements listed for the Mobius, they should fit my thunder thighs well enough. But we'll see. The issue isn't just the circumference of my thigh at a certain point above the knee cap. It's also the shape of said thighs. But I'm hopeful. Frankly, without having the coin to spend on a set of custom made braces, I've made do with less than adequate braces. But again, inspired by your earlier video on knee braces, I figured a less than perfect fit is better than the braces I'd been using.
    Thank you Mr. Morris for yet again another excellent video.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mobius have those different sized pads to adjust the fit which is very handy too, something you usually only see in the top shelf stuff like CTi braces. fingers crossed they fit you well. :)

    from trials ''how to'' to enduro.. still loving it..
    Knee braces.. i run the Mobius X8.. not the most expensive ones on the block, but also not the cheapest.
    The only downsize i have on those is that when i strap on the brace cable thingy with a streched or bend knee.. during riding my musscles pump up.. and it can get a tad uncomfortable... so i have to run it ''loose'' and i have no idea if that compromises it in any way

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      they definitely lose their effectiveness fast when you loosen them off, unfortunately. have you tried other braces to see if you get the same issue? it could be due a poor fit for your legs....

    • @JoeJoeMoto
      @JoeJoeMoto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @gncc1race
      @gncc1race 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What braces did you end up with Joe? I've been meaning to ask you.
      Unfortunately here in Alaska, nobody stocks braces. So we have no choice but to take the risk. I've got some Mobius X8's on the way, and after all I've watched and read, I think I'll be ok with them. But we'll see. With my odd body shape, the only ideal option is custom fit. And I do not have the money for that...

    • @JoeJoeMoto
      @JoeJoeMoto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got the CTi braces. The off the shelf version. Cost me a pretty penny or two! I really liked the Mobius ones when I tried them on.

    • @gncc1race
      @gncc1race 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JoeJoe Moto The CTi's aren't just too expensive, they won't fit my oddly shaped tree stump legs. The Mobius are the only ones that, according to their fitment charts, will fit my legs. Barry's experience with them concerns me though! I was also concerned about the lack of airflow... So we'll see. I should get them in a few days (free shipping from New York = slow boat!). Yeah, the CTi's are great braces, and I do wish I had more options...

      I have just replaced my broken Z-frames with Mobius X8. The Leatt ones were really cheap, but still meet the minimum criteria for the price. They did protect my legs, and they broke on impact. The new V22 version seems reinforced in the area that mine broke, so it should help matters. Other than that, the fit is somewhat sloppy, the Velcro straps have a tendency to loosen up, the hinged lid catches on pants and the rear strap rubs on the inside of the leg when moving from sitting to standing and vice versa. You get what you pay for. I am glad i bought them and not just knee guards, but there's a clear improvement in quality when moving to the Mobiuses. No idea how the X-frame holds up, but my friend has the C-frame and is happy with them, so maybe it's just the budget model that's meh.

I cant find any that transfer forces to the body to reduce risk of tearing the ligaments on AC and CC joints on the collarbone. Most of the protection leaves you withiut a scratch but still dont protect these joints since they have to take all forces landing on the shoulder.

To address Peters shoulder protection query (short story) Last year riding the back roads of South Africa on a BMW GS I was wearing my Dainese mesh body armor and took a weird spill in the bush, broke a few ribs and such. This event lead me to find these guys in France that make RXR Protect MX. sumporfuk, Thx for the link it looks more like what I have in mind. Most shoulder protection I have seen doesn't transfer the impact energy to the body / ribcage and therefore the collarbone and AC joint has to cope with the impact.

    I tore my MCL last year and the type of twist that caused it won't be protected by braces, but almost everyone I know who rides has had some form of knee injury and the most horrifying are the ones that involve hyperextension. These bits of kit are a smart move more of us should have them.

    CTI is sick expensive and doesn’t have a boot strap as Asterisk. They offer a nice fit but most of injuries comes from ankle twist to knee. It happened to me and that boot strap does make sense, Asterisk carbon is a way to go. I would buy CTI but only if they include a boot strap.
    Change my mind.

      Do you have any hard evidence that most injuries are ankle twists, Rafal? We dug deep into the research a few years back and found nothing like that at all.

      @@crosstrainingenduro I meant that if your foot is twisted at ankle level then your knee will be twisted not an ankle as that motion is transferred by your boot to the knee. The knee wasn’t designed for twisting but for bending that’s why extra strap from braces to your boot will help a lot.
      Every single knee ingury is by twisting not by impact etc.
      You can still be injured by having braces on if you don’t have that additional strap to your boot.

      What research are you quoting, Rafal... when you say "Every single knee ingury is by twisting not by impact" and "most of injuries comes from ankle twist to knee"? I did a video which looked into all the available research and didn't find anything that says twisting causes most or all injuries. If you have some evidence I'd love to see it as I want to keep that video up to date as much as possible.

      @@crosstrainingenduro it’s my personal experience 2nd surgery, friends and enduro community.
      Also I been told by my surgeon that with that strap to the boot I wouldn’t be hurt as that strap is stronger than ligaments and holding your knee in a position and prevents any rotation for your knee.

    • @iwe7078
      @iwe7078 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crosstrainingenduroyou stated in the actual video that knee braces don’t do well to protect against twisting forces through the lower leg. The Asterix strap is designed to help with this.

      CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS I'm dumber than a wallaby for Christ's sake. thanks for the link and exposing my brainpower. while you're here I'll tell you I'm getting my money's worth of my chain and sprocket. my drive sprocket is definitely worse than the "getting your money's worth" one you showed and my chain is sagging on its max stretch
