I am 53 and mostly ride singletrack with a little bit of trials and motocross for cross training. Last February I was practicing on some big rock obstacles. Had to bail on one, and the bike came down on my knee with my SXS handguard karate chopping my quad tendon as I landed, completely ripping it from the kneecap. I was wearing EVS knee/shin guards, but the handguard hit just above the left one. I went from being able to do multiple pistol squats with either leg to a life-changing injury with a long, painful recovery. I am 99.9% sure a knee brace would have provided enough impact protection to prevent the injury, and they would have paid for themselves many times over in the last eight months. I'm back to riding singletrack but am taking it easy until I get some braces, hopefully picking up some Mobius X8s this weekend. Path forward is to keep doing leg workouts two days per week with stretching and mobility every night (just as I was doing prior to the injury) but incorporate some lateral knee strengthening exercises into my routine, combined with wearing the Mobius braces when I ride.
I crashed my dirtbike in 2022 I was pronounced brain dead and woke up into a coma ,2 weeks later woke up out of coma , make sure yall wear your helmets ! God bless yall stay safe out there!Make sure you have fun but safety is number 1 priority
Most common injury for dirt bikers or skiers is knee injuries. I wear my CTi's every time I ride my Sherco or ski. There is independent data showing up to a 50% reduction in knee injury with a proper fitting knee brace. Will be 48 soon, and can't afford to deal with knee injury/surgery, but I'm not gonna stop riding or skiing.
The trick is to roll the top of the sleeve down over the top of the brace. They won’t budge. I’ve been wearing pod k4s for 8 years. I don’t notice them much at all when I ride but I sure feel it in my knees post ride if I don’t wear them.
I wear Pods since I had an MCL injury and months of physical therapy. They've saved me several times since and never move up or down while riding. Best money I've spent on gear by far.
I crashed bad with knee braces I tore my mcl the knee brace broke but my surgeon said I missed tearing the main artery in my leg I wold have died without them I I’m 64 and still ride with my braces
17 years ago, a horse fell on me resulting in a tibial plateau fracture and meniscus tear. Plus I tend to fall a lot and have injured myself a lot in downhill MTB, so I’m trying to minimize any more broken bones and torn ligaments. I ride with Asterisk Carbon Cell braces. They come with a pair of very breathable sleeves and by folding the excess at the bottom up and the excess at the top down they have never moved at all even after wearing them for 8 hours straight. I don’t even notice they are on and much prefer them over knee guards/pads which I used prior to getting the braces.
I never have, but now that I'm getting older, been thinking about it. Teaching my wife how to ride right now. Got her her first bike about 2 months back, and now that she is getting faster and not just cruising around the pasture, buying her a pair of Leatt's tomorrow before we go riding. May grab myself a pair too while I'm there because why not? I just feel I'd be the same way. Be good about wearing them for awhile, then stop.
I use Alpinestar knee braces, but only when we are doing hard single track or messing around, they are great, I really should use them more often because as you all know, it happens when you least expect it.
Tom Carson fitted me up with Cti custom knee braces in 1998. After 3 complete rebuilds over the years, they still fit perfectly and do not slip down when riding. I use them riding my KTM, trials bike, and skiing. I look at the chunks missing in the carbon fiber and think each one could have been a blown out knee. When riding or skiing, they're totally comfortable, and I forget they're even on my legs. One of the best purchases I ever made!!
Not yet. My knees are starting to feel like they will pop out, lock up, something. Have considered it. My elbows feel similar. Can be worse. Getting older changes things...
Never worn a brace of any kind, never had an issue. I've raced enduros and hard enduros. Similarly to you, I do knee exercises and focus on building strength and flexibility. Most people I know that swear by braces are the same guys that paddle up every feature. If your feet are on the pegs and your legs are locked to the bike, you won't tweak your knee. I'm not saying it'll never happen, but I think strength training, flexibility, and technique plays more into injury prevention than anything you can put on your knee.
I have only used Leatt knee braces (X frame and C frame). I didn't like X frame because the hinge made the contact point with the bike so small it was hard to grip. The trick to keeping those where they need to be is to put the calf straps above and below the calf as much as possible. If I get those right then the whole thing stays in place.
I have used knee, elbow, wrist, and ankle braces for different sports. I'm pretty sure a neoprene sleeve is just a placebo, but that doesn't mean I'll stop using them.
Love my Pod K8s. Super comfortable. Had my bike fall on my leg many times. The Pod frame can support the weight of the bike. Knee protection is on par with anything else. Had a big crash in the dunes that left me with a bruises under the brace at a level that would indicate a serious injury without them.
I noticed the armor over my knee caps was often hanging too low in my Klim pants-if i was flung off of the bike i had no confidence there would be protection. So i bought Travis Pastrana knee and shin guards. They stay where you put them and I'm sure they have helped when i plopped on the ground. Probably no real protection to a twisting injury. But i really like them!
I have been using the new pod knee braces. I mainly use them for a glorified knee/shin pad. Countless falls wearing these and come up good . Super comfy as well even if they slide a little. I also have done a.c.l in left knee.
My Mobius don’t slide down at all, but they wear through the pants and scratch them the side of the bike with the metal hinge. I’m about 29 years past ACL surgery from soccer, but still do BJJ and ride dirtbikes. It’s more of a security thing for me.
Ski racers are always blowing out ACL’s, and then get a surgery, do the 6 to 9 months of rehab and go back to racing, but you hardly ever see them compete with a brace(s) on. Maybe the braces don’t help in those type of falls as much as they would in the myriad of dirt bike related falls or foot impacts?
I got ACL reconstruction in 2001(complete cadaver ACL ligament replacement).. my Doctor was the Surgeon for Miami Dolphins...he told me braces are only good for hyper-extension..nothing can prevent the twisting that causes most knee injuries in MOTO.
I have pod knee braces. I walk like a 90 year old man on Monday if I don’t wear them. Never have issues with bunching up or sliding down. They basically tuck in the top of my boots so they can’t move. Never had them move even in a crash. The only issue I have is if I don’t get to ride for a while the straps will rub the underside of my knee raw after about 4-6 hours.
Did my left knee ACL about 4 weeks ago wearing Asterix Cell braces. The crash wasnt even that bad and i was really surprised (knee dislocated). this is the 2nd time on this knee and ive also done the other knee once. Maybe i just have crap knees to begin with, but i was training almost daily to keep fit and avoid injury, and it happend anyway. Id still wear braces as i got used to them and they didnt bother me while riding, but dont expect them to save your knee in all circumstances. They probably help in some ways but its not going to save you, not even close. Impacting your knee/leg in the right way will dammage it no matter what, you cant fully stop the twisting and bending during a hard impact. Youd basically have to lock down the entire joint to protect it, then break a bone instead. I dont regret having them on but its sure disapointing to have to go through this for the third time.
It took me a full year to recover from a complete ACL tear while riding an ~8hp pitbike at a backyard track! It doesnt take much! I'm really happy with my Mobius X8's.
I wear the EVS RS8 knee braces I only paid 400 ish bucks for both and I have been using them for about 10 years and I love them I don't like riding without them. They don't limit my movement at all. I race desert national hare and hounds, desert scrambles in the 40 + hwt expert class so our speeds are up there on some of the courses and I have come off the bike at 60 to 70 mph before and my knees were perfect afterwards. And in the slower tech rocks areas if I fall on my knee the braces just takes it and I keep pushing on. I also still wear a knock brace. I love them as well.
I have a completely ruined ACL from a teenage injury (I'm 60 now). 6 years ago I re-injured it on a simple get-off on my dirt bike and it took a several weeks to get usable again. Have been wearing knee braces ever since with MANY get-offs and have not had a single re-injury...I think they work for me! I'd love to not have to wear them but I don't leave home without them, I hardly notice them when I'm riding, but I'm dang sure they saved me from a few more re-injuries.
I wear knee pads that are technically TLD MTB knee braces. (T-Bone) I also rarely dab my foot, I try to keep my foot on the pegs. Had a couple hard get offs with them and knees never got hurt. 🤷
I had a tip over yesterday towards the end of a 52 mile ride in Colorado. The bike fell on my knee. I believe my knee braces are why I’m walking. After watching the video it’s hard to show but during the switchback turn I fell down the hill the bike hit the brace on the side and I quickly pulled my leg out. Without the brace it wouldn’t have had that side protection. After riding moto for years wearing heavy Thor knee guards I wanted something that fit better and allowed more mobility. The braces don’t move and seem to be designed to work with Alpine Star boots. I’m sold on them.
I like wearing knee protection, I'm not sure if this is what you mean by a knee brace though. It makes me personally feel better when I do go down, I jump back up and no problems so far. The places you ride are epic, dirtbike meca.
I hurt my knee over 10 year's ago never went to hospital and regretted it big time. I now have it for the rest of my life. Knee braces makes bikes possible for me.
It's not all doom and gloom. I had the same situation, chose not to have reconstructive ACL surgery because at the time , I would've been out of competition (cycling) for 6months. 3 weeks from the injury I started a weight lifting program of squats and deadlifts. 15 years later I have no instability in my knee, still wear a brace when riding offroad. The only thing I can't do like I used to is freestyle wrestling, that will cause my knee to pop out of place. From my experience, once I was able to squat ass to grass ,twice my body weight and dead lift 1 &1/2 my body weight, there was enough strength in my legs to stabilize my whole knee. I don't regret opting out of the surgery. Almost everybody I know that has had reconstructive surgery and continued in athletics has torn their cadaver ligaments. I ony regret tearing it in the 1st place.
Hi Kyle. Thanks. I always enjoy thoughtful conversation, as included in this video. I got into woods riding/harescrambles this year. Been riding motorcycles just about all my life, so at 61 years old I thought it would be a good idea to be well-protected. I've never had knee problems, so why start now? 🤪 I bought Pods K4 knee braces and so far, I don't even know they're there. Yes, not really certain how much they may help in a crash (had a few now), but I figure better safe than sorry. Contrarily, I don't wear a neck brace. That's my story. Thanks again.
Yes I swear by them. Had a crash a few years back that I am convinced would have ended in serious injury had I not been wearing them. I think they do more good than harm.
I wear the pod K4's on both knees as I have no ACL in my right knee. I wear a pair of mens MSR full length underliners. Braces don't move, wouldn't ride without them. It's not the crash that tears knees, it's the almost crash when you throw a leg out . I also mtb 50-60 miles a week. On another note, exactly which brand of spark arrestor are you running?
I wear the EVS TP199’s, more than a guard, less than a brace, and I feel like it’s a good middle ground between a hard brace and the plastic knee guards
I wear the Leatt Z frame. More than a guard but not really a full brace. Good balance of protection without going overboard. Did run some Alpinestars that the hinge snapped on, I don't really remember an incident that was enough to do it, but maybe that's a good thing 😅
My first acl done when I was I around 20ish riding mx. I wore knee braces religiously for the next 20 + years . Jumped on a enduro bike I decided to stop wearing them as a sense of freedom and bike control in the bush I believed outweighed the risk. 2 years go by without incident then acl goes again (same knee) absolutely slow bush single track. Now 48 years old and 8 weeks post surgery I can safely say that this isn’t a pleasant experience. I’ll be definitely wearing braces when I’m cleared to ride again. Recovery, time of work, no riding, crazy cost of surgery, lost wages, pain, etc etc just isn’t worth the risk. Irrespective of how uncomfortable you may think knee braces are they’re called protective gear for a reason. Just my 2 cents worth. Wear braces kids.
I'm quite young, never wore knee braces, just helmet and boots. I had an accident a year and a half ago and fractured a couple vertebrae and compressed 2 disc's in my mid back. After that I bought some leatt knee braces and a chest protector. I realized how much it sucks when you're injured and can't ride. The first ride or 2 the knee braces were awkward, but I never ride without them now. Don't ever notice them while riding and I can dab down a foot without ever worrying about it messing up a knee now. For woods/single track riding I think knee braces are a very important item to wear. The chest protector is only for when I'm doing moto or racing.
I tore my ACL while riding and the nature of the injury was such that there is no doubt that a knee brace would have prevented that injury. I lost so much income as a result of time off work, that I could have paid for braces many times over, not to mention the pain. I wear CTI braces, one of which is custom, and they’re great. My boys wear Mobius braces and they’re also great.
I wear knee & shin guards - not braces, comfortable and give protection from hitting branches or rocks and falling and you have full movement ….but not twisting, but I wear them every ride I feel self conscious without my body armour on !
The evidence like seatbelts is in the reduction of hospitalizations and permanent injuries. Since knee braces have become a standard part of professional racers gear, we don’t hear about knee injuries as often. Additionally professional MX racers careers aren’t over by 23 years of age like they were before knee braces became a thing.
I bought Stoko supportive pants for skiing and loved how much they supported my knees while not being a big bulky brace. I started wearing the pants riding bike this year and have loved them while riding the bike as well. Definitely worth looking into in my opinion. I have dislocated my left knee many times and love the stability the Stokos provide
Have you ever done a video on what you do for strength conditioning? I still wear my asterisk carbon braces but agree that losing 20 lbs and working out gives me way more confidence than wearing braces.
Ryan Hughes is adamantly against knee braces and advises impact protection. He is an MX legend, i am a trail riding nobody. The debate of twisting vs impact protection is highly controversial. This year i have used EVS TP199 knee and elbow protection. They are very comfortable but I'm not confident they will provide proper hard impact protection. I feel safer and have been best protected with the hard plastic guards. I can slam my knees and elbows against my brick garage with the plastic guards but it hurts when i slam my own hand to my elbow with the TP199s.
Me too, I’m assuming a lot of people fk their knees up dabbing or gets caught on a rut. But I try to keep my feet on the pegs as much as possible and even if I take my leg off in the turn I’ve made it absolute muscle memory to bring it up to the front fender.. oddly I find that helps me stay more stable as well because lifting my leg up like that forces me to tighten my abs and I have better technique in the turn itself.
@@weStayModest the higher my leg the better I corner too. The only part I liked about knee braces is the thickness they added. Bikes are so damn skinny... feels weird have knocked knees lol
@@Johnny-Gunn yeah and they just keep getting thinner, I just hate feeling restricted. I also don’t really ever think about knee injuries, I’m way way way more concerned with landing on my damn head and breaking my neck or back. Hope I can find a low profile neck race I actually like.
I've been using the TP199 knee and elbow this year and they are very comfortable. However, if I slam my hand to my elbow it still hurts. I don't know how much they will protect with hard impacts.
Started very first rides in my life as 53, was climber for all my life, came with loads of spine, neck a knee injuries can’t afford any not even tiny one, since started right from beginning with knee (Asterisk) and Leatt neck brace don’t even know they are there, guess just learned to deal with it, nice ride btw, cheers V
My knees hyperextend several degrees all on their onesome (jumped out of airplanes in the army and other abuses) So am really leaning towards wearing impact protection knee braces correctively. But Jesus they are expensive. Am going to try talking to my doctor at the BA and see if I can get a prescription for leatt’s
Custom CTI or Donjoy knee braces are a scam and that's the problem with this perspective. The "they are perfectly fitted to my knee" is garbage, since the only customized parts are the length above and below your knee cap (Maybe DonJoy measures around the knee cap?). After my ACL injury I mistakenly fell into the same trap and purchased custom CTI braces and they were the most uncomfortable and worst fitting braces. The carbon fiber would dig into my thigh and shin. There are many off the shelf aftermarket braces that are far more comfortable. I have both the POD K4's and Mobius X8's and both are far superior in fit and comfort to the POS CTI's I had. I have a close riding buddy that uses EVS WEB and he swears by them as well. TIP: For the best fitment, wear a full length "pant style" thin base layer and not the sock or knee brace specific sleeves. The sock or knee brace sleeves slide down, whereas the pant style keeps the brace from sliding down since the pant is fixed via your waistband. This setup also breathes very well and keeps you cool by wicking away the sweat from your skin.
Agreed on the full knee brace pants. Tried the Leatt knee brace sleeves and lots of slippage. The pants hold the braces 100%. They sure make my legs hot though, but I don't ride without them.,
@@algee8228 Maybe try a very thin base layer. I use non-moto base layers from 32 Degrees and they actually make it cooler to ride with them versus without.
@@tdrewk15 the Leatt knee brace pants I wear wrap right back up around the whole brace and velcro to themselves at the top so they hold the braces 100%. I will try a light base layer though to see how that works.
The new neckbraces are much less intrusive, i don't notice it at all now. I agree the first of ones were big and annoying. I use it for both moto and downhill/bikepark mtb. The one time i didn't was a mtb enduro competition, crashed heavily, landed on my head, passed out for a little while and my neck has never been 100% ever since. Now i would feel naked without it, it's like riding without helmet.
Never used braces my whole racing career, but ounce I started getting older your body doesn't flex like when your younger, so started using pod braces they make me feel more secure in myself, all the top guys these days swear by braces.
I also use those Pod K4. Since I use them, I never had any pain after I crashed(wich happens by me more than I wish). They stay on place all day and fit so good that I forget that I'm wearing them. In addition I go two or three times to the gym per week to strenghten my legs. This combination works best for me.
@@OtisFlint Maybe not but it's common sense that a brace would prevent injuries pertaining to twisting and hyperextension. It's not nearly as questionable as Kyle makes it out to be. Edit: Oh almost forgot: lol
@@ckkone True, but since we don't have a parallel universe where one could try otherwise, you have to take what you really get (sorry for my bad english, I hope you get my point). Just one thing in my life: Before wearing Braces: 3 Knee injuries After start wearing Braces: 0 Knee injuries One hard crash(front wheel wash out, landing sideways on a flat rock) was so hard that it broke the frame of my Braces (Alpinestars). If I hadn't side protection I surely damaged my acl instead.
As a physician I don’t recommend braces unless you already have an injury. Braces weaken your natural stability. Your further ahead to lift weights and strengthen the surrounding structures and do some stability and balance training to keep the joints healthy and stable.
If you have ever seen what they have to do for compartment syndrome in the lower leg resulting from a hyperextension injury, it will make you want to wear knee braces, if only to prevent that.
Not crazy at all really. Know your riding style and dress accordingly. I do pretty hard stuff but don't use braces. My crashes don't tend to hurt my legs that way
I wear knee pads over my pants, just old hard plastic skateboard or soft tactical pads. Never tried actual braces b/c they're way too spendy. I'm 59 now and don't jump much. Trying to learn to ride with tactical gear on; my goal is to be able to fly off a jump while accurately firing a hand gun. ;)
100 % need knee guards/or pad for impact from rocks and trees, but knee braces are known to lock the knee on a impact and can cause snapping a tibia or worse
I was wearing leatt x branches and tore my acl and damaged my mcl. This happened less than two weeks back. Wat not even a crash. I just jumped off the bike on the high side of a hill, trying to stop the bike from falling over and my own weight. I am now wandering if i should ditch some of my safety gear for less weight on my body. Neck brace(leatt5.5), smaller chest protection (current leatt 6.5), less tools in Hydration pack, no knee braces. The big question is, would my knee have been injured worse of i did not wear braces of did it not make a difference in my injury.
Leatt X frame or Z frame have plenty of different settings and pads makes them very comfortable I don’t ride without them , I am surprised that you don’t use braces Kyle I am sure you did when I first started watching your channel
I waar the cheapest thor knee protectors (same ones for past 4 years) and still ok😅😂😂 I plan to buy some Acerbis Knee protectors, but all I know with knee braces they just quit wearing them due to loss of comfort...
knee braces are not the way to go. Get knee pads, "protectors" as they call them now days. The mountain bike knee pads are superior in fit and movement, but most of them are not adequate. ON the other hand, most of the dirt bike specific pads are straight garbage. I love the Leatt 3DF 5.0 Knee Guard. I have tried almost all of the plastic shell protectors and they would be much better in a crash, but they greatly hinder my riding. The Leatt knee guard I wear actually helps me grip the bike with my legs.
I love my knee brace, I tore my Acl about six months ago. I ride with my brace on the outside of my pants and it never slides down or is uncomfortable that way. It’s called the fusion xt
@@EmmettRieskeAdams yeah, until they don't. Cocky responses when it comes to future potential injuries spells bad things happening in the future. Pants allow them to shift and move when the real actual crash pressure is applied. That's how I was wearing mine when I completely tore every ligament and both meniscus inside my knee. They can't get tight enough over clothing, or anything thicken than a poly compression sleeve.
I stick with simple knee pads. The data on braces is way too mixed to justify their cost and restriction. You can reduce injury risk by strengthening your joints. If you want stronger ligaments, tendons, and bones, you need to add some heavier weightlifting to your program.
I either wear braces or pads all the time. POD braces are awesome and TP199 pads are fantastic. If your brace is moving around that much you have some bad braces LOL. I have brace sleeves and can ride for hours and they don't move. Leg strength has absolutely nothing to do with it. What dumb advice saying that is the prevention. They absolutely provide additional protection if getting run over or in a crash. In a set of TP199's you can't even tell they are on.
I'll give you credit, your comments are terrible, but at least they're constantly terrible. If you don't think weight training reduces injury, you should probably read more and type less.
@@OtisFlint Look another worthless and uninformed Otis comment. First off most MX training for legs doesn’t involve “weight training” Go educate yourself moron! Secondly of course training is considered a baseline but has nothing to do with wearing or not wearing a brace and the effectiveness of it 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Oh look another totally irrelevant and uneducated Otis comment. That’s like saying no pro would ever need a knee brace 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️Since they are in top condition yet all almost ride in one 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Physical conditioning is a baseline and is irrelevant if the protection the brace is providing.
@@OtisFlint Shocker! Another totally irrelevant and uninformed comment from Otis. Being in good physical condition is a given and foundation. I’m new to off-road bikes. And I have had 3 times where I’m on an incline. either climbing or going along and get in a slight sitch go to put my foot down and fall. Is there something I need to be doing differently?
Never ride without a real brace period. Then get the correct pants and they won’t move. No such thing as making your knees stronger. Wear your gear knees and elbow and serious helmet plus a leatt for your neck and a chest and back. A casual fall can ruin your season. Don’t notice my gear on the bike at all. Wear it or suffer the consequences
Any gear that hinders your movement or feels obtrusive is not really helping you, I've always had good strong legs and have always preferred a quality knee and shin guard over a brace.
@@cdnmoto849😂yeah, exxxactly… and to add to your joking sarcasm, wearing a helmet even feels uncomfortable and intrusive as compared to the free joy of 1970’s “wind in my hair” freeeedom rides, shall we also ditch the helmets along with the boots too? (joking of course)
This is dangerous misinformation. Should do strength training always but not as a substitute for knee braces. The human body was not built for the physics involved in riding dirt bikes. This should be obvious. And yes I have had both my acls rebuilt from not wearing them.
No offense but, the video quality on this camera is not very good at all. I watch a lot of videos on my phone and they are much clearer than yours are. I watch a lot of dirt bike channels.

Leatt x frame for me, i love mine, fits great, i dont even know i have them on while riding and they have never falken down or been annoying.
I bought the leatt hybrids and I love em, won't ride without them.
I am 58 with no acl. I ride with compression braces with hinged side support. Neoprene compression really stabilizes the knee.
Knee braces are the most important thing besides a helmet
Id' say boots #2 but braces are important.
Quality helmet I use a klim
I got ACL reconstruction in 2001(complete cadaver ACL ligament replacement).. my Doctor was the Surgeon for Miami Dolphins...he told me braces are only good for hyper-extension..nothing can prevent the twisting that causes most knee injuries in MOTO.
Custom braces will not slide down if you fasten them properly. Leatt knee brace shorts work great to keep them in place.
Leatt X-braces. They are stellar!
Liking the Alpinestars knee brace, low profile and know for sure it saved me a few times getting foot caught in ruts (felt the brace flex and absorb)
Mobius are the best I've tried hands down. I HATE my 4k custom carbon fiber Donjoys
If you don’t already think about ankle saver pegs. Spendy but losing even a day or two of work covers the cost.
@@TylerN737s can you share what pegs are you using? thanks!
I wear knee & shin guards - not braces, comfortable and give protection from hitting branches or rocks and falling and you have full movement ….but not twisting, but I wear them every ride I feel self conscious without my body armour on !
Totally agree! I use the same type set up and they have protected me on a few really hard impact occasions to perfection.
Agreed 100%
I used to wear knee braces to prevent injuries. Most of my riding friends got injuries before protection.
Used to.. Really nice astars braces. I switched to tp199 pads and havent looked back. Just feels right!
I wear the Mobius and think they are very comfortable!
@@tomcorle1400 Same, they are the most protective from my perspective and are very comfortable.
@@tdrewk15 the Leatt knee brace pants I wear wrap right back up around the whole brace and velcro to themselves at the top so they hold the braces 100%. I will try a light base layer though to see how that works.
I wear the Leatt 3DF 6.0 pads, not a brace but provides pretty solid non-twist protection
I have two pairs and would never get on the bike without a pair on.
Kyle, can you please do a video on 100 hour maintenance for your bike? 4 stroke and 2 stroke? That would be AWESOME
How? he only puts maybe 10-20 hours on each bike before they get raffled off.
I was wearing POD k4s when I tore my PCL. Had I not been wearing them my knee would have been completely blown up.
I also use those Pod K4. Since I use them, I never had any pain after I crashed(wich happens by me more than I wish).
They stay on place all day and fit so good that I forget that I'm wearing them. In addition I go two or three times to the gym per week to strenghten my legs. This combination works best for me.
There is actually no way to know what would have happened without a brace.
Like you have a clue what would happen, lol.
Just one thing in my life:
Before wearing Braces: 3 Knee injuries
After start wearing Braces:
0 Knee injuries
One hard crash(front wheel wash out, landing sideways on a flat rock) was so hard that it broke the frame of my Braces (Alpinestars).
Wore PODS for years before I retired from riding.
I wear pods, my knees hurt less wearing them after rides, vs not wearing them.
If you have ever seen what they have to do for compartment syndrome in the lower leg resulting from a hyperextension injury, it will make you want to wear knee braces, if only to prevent that.
I'm not. Like @kosmoman54 said, the Travis TP-199 knee pads are very good. BTW, are you riding my 300xc-w?
Great topics nice insight to your thoughts comment section lot to read. Thanks for the ride
Crazy not wearing braces if doing hard enduro
A broken bone is better than a destroyed joint.
Just saw you at the grocery store! 😂 I won't say where 🤐 keep making awesome videos
No braces for me. But it’s always the small bikes like pitters or trials that hurt us!
I love my knee brace, I tore my Acl about six months ago. I ride with my brace on the outside of my pants and it never slides down or is uncomfortable that way. It’s called the fusion xt
wearing it outside of your pants is pointless. It has to be as tight as possible on the skin. ask me how I know.
Well mine works great, ask me how I know.
TP-199 Not the big knee braces.
I have those too.
I broke my knee wearing those when I hit a tree. The tree laughed at those glorified pillows strapped to my legs, lol.
@@JoshStreetDesign ain’t no trees where I am just cactus. 🌵
I think they help even just for gripping the bike, and if you drop it and end up on your knees there’s some protection
I wear custom CTi 2 knee braces
Wow! What a trail!
I stick with simple knee pads. The data on braces is way too mixed to justify their cost and restriction. You can reduce injury risk by strengthening your joints. If you want stronger ligaments, tendons, and bones, you need to add some heavier weightlifting to your program.
They are free, most health insurance will pay for them. I don’t think the data is as mixed as it might be with neck braces.
@@GoneRidingPartsCom Are you saying your health care provider will pay for a $600 pair of knee braces right away?
Yes I tore my right ACL in 84’
I either wear braces or pads all the time.
With your logic a pro MX/SX rider would never wear a brace since they are at the top fitness for their craft.🤦♂🤦♂Even though they almost all wear one. The brace benefits is irrelevant🤦♂🤦♂Of course training helps reduce not prevent injuries like it does in almost any sport. 🤦♂
It’s all fun and games until you hit the knees and hurt all week !
What trail is this?
I’m new to off-road bikes. And I have had 3 times where I’m on an incline. either climbing or going along and get in a slight sitch go to put my foot down and fall. Is there something I need to be doing differently?
I think, when in doubt, we’re just supposed to accelerate and keep our feet on the pegs 😂
I have the Slay co knee pads.
Amazing video
Never ride without a real brace period. Then get the correct pants and they won’t move.
No such thing as making your knees stronger. Wear your gear knees and elbow and serious helmet plus a leatt for your neck and a chest and back. A casual fall can ruin your season. Don’t notice my gear on the bike at all. Wear it or suffer the consequences
“What you brace you weaken” Ryan Hughes
I don’t wear equipment that restricts my movement
WHO doesn’t?!
Any gear that hinders your movement or feels obtrusive is not really helping you, I've always had good strong legs and have always preferred a quality knee and shin guard over a brace.
Boots hinder movement, should I ditch them?
@@cdnmoto849😂yeah, exxxactly… and to add to your joking sarcasm, wearing a helmet even feels uncomfortable and intrusive as compared to the free joy of 1970’s “wind in my hair” freeeedom rides, shall we also ditch the helmets along with the boots too?
(joking of course)
This is dangerous misinformation. Should do strength training always but not as a substitute for knee braces. The human body was not built for the physics involved in riding dirt bikes. This should be obvious. And yes I have had both my acls rebuilt from not wearing them.
I have to agree after having had knee surgery they are totally psychological.
No offense but, the video quality on this camera is not very good at all. I watch a lot of videos on my phone and they are much clearer than yours are. I watch a lot of dirt bike channels.
