copper cap tubes that are under water in the A/C season when there is water in the drain pan always are eaten away by being submerged in the water with refrigerant flowing in them. also the cap tubes on the far left and right of the coil with be eaten away. this is always there the leaks start and the first place I check. usually oil on them and around them. have found that on Goodman and also Nordyne coils.
It's easy to assemble. Great directions. Works decently well. However what WASN'T clear initially was that it requires 4 of these for a 3000 gallon pool. :-/
thnx for ur videos. May be you can help me. What is a "high pressure lockout"? And could a defective thermostat caused the defrost board to show this code. My heat pump board is currently showing this code. The OUTDOOR unit DOES NOT, start up at all, in heating or cooling. There is 24v on the R and C terminals. In the "emergency" mode, I am not getting enough heat. It only heats up to 72degrees only, and runs all night. And never shuts off. This is a RHEEM system. 6yrs old. I am really frustrated now, because i am having all these issues at the same time. I am thinking the thermostat is mal functioning, then I think its the defrost board. then i think the heat strips has issues. I am a wreck with these issues. The indoor unit runs fine, but NOTHING from the OUT DOOR UNIT. I just can't figure it out. Hope you or any other can assist me.
Honestly I’m just curious about it. I know the refridgerant is very expensive and I’m sure wasting it can become costly. Your videos are very educational by the way.
When I press my Goodman condenser contactor in everything comes on and the line is cold but it's losing 24 volts somewhere. I can't figure out where. Can you give me an idea of where to start diagnosing if it's a bad board? Can the contactor still be bad even if it works when you manually press it in?
Great job on this video...just wondering why you added 1 lb refrigerant to a known leaker rather than a trace amount and top off w/nitro so as to leak test?
+Steve Mazzoni the area had me thinking this the refrigerant may have been stolen and if I add nitro and I don't find a leak then I have to vacuum before recharge.
Steve Mazzoni even if you put just a few ounces in, you charge for at least one pound in this business. you gotta cover your costs . unless you're just going out of your way to do someone a solid . I've done that lots of times but realistically you need to be charging to cover any costs
Watched one of your repair videos about 3 months ago and heard under a witches moon and looked up the 100 watt vipers and they got a good bit of tuff jams really dig when the Hammer comes down,Blind man,Ride with the Eagle,He walks so heavy,Brother and Dirt road blues to name a few!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!! ( Awesome band!!!!!!)
My Thermostat doesn't register at all when heat is turned on it'll only keep indoor temp which is dropping quickly. What could possibly be the problem and should my fan rum when my heat should be on?
hey,Steve, I just bought a nitrogen tank on Amazon, but they sent me a co2 tank instead and I have a question if you can help. can I use co2 to braze or testing pressures in a units.
so did the gooman condenser have a low pressure switch to disengage the 24 v circuit due to low freon pressure? I have the same issue but I didnt see a low and high side pressure switch. if so besides the service ports where would they be located. I looked inside the condenser, took the panels off nothing unless its built enternally
If it won’t start in heating but runs in cooling I can’t imagine what would keep it from working. Does it run but not heat or does it actually continue cooling
Sorry, I wasn't too clear. When thermostat calls for heat, aux heat (gas furnace) comes on immediately. HP compressor never starts. When it calls for cooling, the HP compressor starts and cools normally.
I see, my suspicion is that there is some sort of temperature control that is keeping the compressor from operating. If it runs in cooling at whatever ambient temperature but not heating then I’d guess it could be a digital lock out rather than a mechanical one. Shoot me an email stephenrardon@gmail.com
+Randy Duquene the leak detector is the TiF ZX Robinair TIFZX Heated Pentode Halogen Leak Detector www.amazon.com/dp/B003BOQLGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pQWZzbZFWGVTA The 27 volts was because I was getting a call for the compressor contactor
My heat pump will run for about 10-15 seconds then shut off for about the same amount of time and keeps repeating this short-cycling. I think it is low on charge and that is causing the low pressure sensor to shut the system down, any thoughts??
Ether low pressure or high pressure are tripping. The causes for each vary quite a bit. Cooling or heating mode? Low refrigerant, air flow/fan motor problems, faulty valves and restrictions. All these things and more can cause short cycles. Don't get me started on faulty zone control boards.

Hey Steve does this Tiff resets (zeroes out) in order to actually pinpoint the leak? I mean not only at 2 feet away from the actual leak, did you tried it in this particular job? I used to use an older Tiff a while back back and it was awesome!! I am currently looking for a new one.
someone call sporlan and tell them to drop the price of those sporlan smart tools probes! they just look 100 times stronger built than the new testo smarts...
1998 isn't even 20 years old yet. We would have put a new A-coil in. It sure wouldn't have been 50% of the cost of a whole new system. In my 15 years experience in this business, it's the people that should and need to worry the most that don't. This 1978 Singer should last another 10 years, right?! Aw, come on man....you can get a new compressor for it etc...etc.... OMG.....my 1999 Trane is wore out.....better get a new one! Guess which one CAN be repaired and it's going to be worth it!
when the system is flat it could be tested with either nitrogen or refrigerant. If nitrogen is used then it would require a repair and evacuation. In this case there was a chance that someone had maliciously removed the refrigerant so I decided to try just adding a little gas to avoid needing to evacuate if that was the case.
If you can replace a whole unit bout as cheap as you can fix it ,you know your rates are way too high probably 250-300 just for service call and 1lb of Freon ridiculous,
*Easy to instal **Fastly.Cool** As described.*
True tech tools is the absolute gold standard for tools. Rardon is the gold standard for HVAC techs. A true master of his craft
I don’t know if I’d go that far on me as a tech but I appreciate your support!

Thanks for sharing your vids Stephen. Your doing an awesome job!! I've had four of those same calls this week.
I use a yellow jacket with kids soap bubbles, it's the best to find small leaks. reacts to small leaks big bubbles.
For a small unit, it gets the job done!I would definitely recommend
I wish someone would go in depth on troubleshooting Rheem heat pumps.
Reversing valve is energized in cooling , that’s as in depth as I can go 🤷🏼♂️

Once you put in refrigerant are you able to take it back out due to finding a leak?
Sure, what’s the situation?
Honestly I’m just curious about it. I know the refridgerant is very expensive and I’m sure wasting it can become costly. Your videos are very educational by the way.
Most companies today will recover and recycle the refrigerant through their local supply house.
Thanks for watching
Nice Job. I would like to have one of those leak detector..

What gauges are you using ion this video? I’ve seen them in others but can’t find them online. Thank you
Can’t u just fill up with freeon ?? Just to have cooling for alil bit ? I tried but I think the compressor over heated
Why did you leak test with refrigerant instead of nitrogen? Isn't that illegal?
It wasn’t a leak test, it was an attempt to recharge the system that happened to have a leak
Hello, thanks for your videos. Do you have something about low pressure switch? Thanks
I don't believe I do
$2-3k for evap coil change out?
Good one
What is that gauge you connected to compressor
thank you very much i learned a lot from you keep going bro

Nice man thanks!
Can you run sealer in it? If so, how many times can you put sealer in a leaking system over time?
I don’t use leak sealers
I have a unit that does not emergency aux setting but it has both cool and heat . Do I have a heat pump split ?
Probably not, usually if it only has cool and heat it’s a gas furnace with AC
like ur videos.....were did u get the leak detector? brand?

what is the name of your leak detector Stephen

Stephen Rardon how is it or 410?

Really sorry for the delayed replies. The comments section of a TH-cam video isn’t the best place to have a conversation 😁
Could you please let me know what type of type of leak detector you have and why you were pulling 27 volts on yellow to common thank you

The 27 volts was because I was getting a call for the compressor contactor
Move to Florida you'll make more money! Your lucky if you get 10 years on a unit down here. (Without major repairs that is).
Yeah but you have to live in Florida
Hey what's that device u had on the outside unit called that I read the pressure w to your phone never seen that before
that would be the Sporlan Smart Probes. video here: th-cam.com/video/FBBPJiq2H_I/w-d-xo.html
VERY HELPFUL MY FRIEND THANKS
In other countries we use nitrogen for refrigeration leak detection )
Haha! Yeah.
what type of leak dector do you use?
what brand leak detector were you using?
TiF ZX
How do you like that leak detector?
I like it a lot, battery lasts long enough that I don't recall when I last charged it. Has found leaks when the mighty H10 couldn't

A system of this age and with a major leak would warrant a changeout quickly 😂
What brand sniffer? I like it

+giosource08 yes, you can zero it to get closer to the actual leak
Can't solder it up..
.
Company policy wouldn’t allow trying to solder up that sort of leakage on a coil.
@@StephenRardon psshhhh.....
Holy shiz when you can see a mist that's a problem.

Wish you use soap bubbles. All in all job well done.
Pressure test it with nitrogen and refrigerant and repair it. its more practical then a new unit. 7/9/2021
Leaker deluxe.

nice leak detector gotta get me one one day!!!!
I just paid a tech $400 dollars to "fix" a similar problem I'm having. It's not fixed.
Rapid eye movement, bags under the eyes I've got you figured out !
What? That he probably works his ass off?
Would’ve probably been cheaper to just use leak detector and braze it. All depending on how big a leak
So I'm the only one who notices this cat is high as hell on every vid right??😏

And that explains the disconnect lol
1998? Maybe it's time to get a new one lol
when you gound the disconnect off, i bet you thought theres got to be more to this story....
This was dumb.. dude didn’t show his steps..instead of the leak detector machine. Why not use soap and bubbles.. some techs are just lazy
kind looks like an amish repairman.
Why did you not use nitrogen? I had to stop watching as soon as I seen that

fix the leak! its simple. You just want to make money off this guy.
Huh? The system is over 20 years old, it’s been time for it to be replaced 🤷♂️
Not if it's an R-22 system, might as well replace it
Lol you said condenser. Outside coil. No offense!
It is called a condenser wtf you talking about
