First look at the Parallel 42 FreedomFox / Fox2 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

- Today we take the Parallel 42 Fox2 for a flight in Microsoft Flight Simulator - taking off from the custom "campout" scenery that comes packaged with it. The Fox2 is based on Trent Palmer's real-world "FreedomFox" aircraft, which is also included in the package.
If you like STOL aircraft and bush flying, it's perhaps the best 3D model of any example in the simulator - although I wonder if the flight physics are quite there. That said, it's easy to fly, does what it's told, and doesn't surprise - which may be perfect for many. It's not the Wilga - let's just say that much.

Kitfox is a nice bush plane. 3D modeled really well and flight model was done by GotGravel, so you know it's great. FreedomFox is essentially just the name of the flag livery lol. Except when Trent Palmer calls it out as the plane type when talking to his home tower, and other pilots on the frequency roll their eyes in unison.
Thanks, Jonathan for a great review. I have had this airplane for a while and completely enjoy it. I have a different take on scratches on windshields. I have over 40 years experience in aviation as a maintenance technician and if my aircraft had scratches like the ones you showed in this airplane, I would be insanely furious. It means someone didn't clean the windshield properly and scratched the surface. Most owners and mechanics take great pride in their aircraft and keep them clean. Developers in my opinion way overdo the scratches, smudges, and blemishes on windshields, instruments and upholstery. As a flight simmer since the FS95 days, I find these scratches to be a huge distraction, particular in bright sunlight. I realize a lot of simmers may like the scratches, but I would prefer an option to remove them. Less is better. Just my opinion.
Completely agree. I remember reading years ago about the Spitfire canopies - which had special cloths used to clean them - because they were made of plexiglass :)
I think for some of these planes it's optional I read. Don't have to have scratches any wear and tear of don't like it

We have this and the Wilga, which is currently discounted, along with that other plane which is currently at $1.99, a 93% discount! If you like this sort of plane and flying, you're in heaven. As MSFS matures, the add-on planes are of very high quality.
The aircraft (for the most part) are getting better and better, aren't they :)

Been enjoying your showcase videos particularly the recent arrow series.
While parked and shut down, you can click on and remove the top cowling to view the engine and click on the rear cargo to pitch a tent under the wing. There is also a car horn next to the fuel pump switches 😂.
This and the Wilga are top tier for STOL and bush enthusiasts 👍. The Zenith 701 while slower is no slouch either!

All these great new aircraft for MS, all I want is the bog standard steam gauge C172 without having to upgrade £80 or so to the deluxe edition, should have done my home work before buying 😂.
The Justflight Arrows are very good.
After seeing this video I went and got it. Flies great, infact quite easy to control. Be good to see a tutorial on how to land it though - well tail draggers in general. Only flown tail draggers a few times and well I just braking is challenging to say the least. For STOL its very bouncy and hard to stop without the tail going over the nose and end up upside down. Maybe just me and need some more practice as only tried this out for an hour or so. But I have tried the other in game tail draggers like the Cubs and same problem.
Once on the ground, you need back pressure. The elevators will push the tail wheel down, and stop the plane from tipping on wheel brakes.

Ive never figured out how to use the OBS mode though? Really handy for lining up on hard to spot airstrip approaches but I've never figured it out -_-
OBS mode is often badly implemented in the simulator. When you engage it, a vector line is drawn through the next waypoint if operating in GPS mode - and the course knob (normally used for radio navigation) then lets you angle the vector line - typically to runway direction so you can see the centerline on the GPS map.
@@jonbeckett Ah sorry haven't made that clear - I do use OBS all the time, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to engage it on the Kitfox - there seems to be no OBS option on the touchscreen or dials

WigWag pulses the landing lights left-right-left-right etc to make you more visible. Doesn't work with landing lights on, and night landing using wigwag instead of landing lights are ... interesting. The campout mod is very cool but you're placing scenery items not an airport, so you can't spawn at your camp when you load the sim. I'd never looked at this field but it strikes me that building a campsite here next to a recognised parking spot where you can spawn the plane would be the absolute shizzle for bush flying.
It's a custom scenery that comes in a pack with the Kitfox from OrbX - it does indeed have a campground with aircraft and tents :)
This really makes me want to get the Freedom Fox. I just bought the Wilga though, and I have the Speedster, Husky, 170 and Zenith. How many small bush aircraft do I need?
Edit - I quite fancy getting the Maule and Rans too lol.

The Rans in my opinion is fantastic. Love it. I am planning to do a lot of livery beacause there is a well made layered paintkit. Unknow to simmers but highly appreciated by real life pilot. The100 hp Rotax (the most common) without turbo make flying in Idaho more challenging.

Yes - the Wilga is by far the best STOL aircraft in the simulator (in my opinion) :)
I purchased these planes the other day and I enjoy flying them, however, they constantly pull to the right. I really don't know what to do to mitigate it. :(
I've seen some strangeness in the autopilot rolling all the time - there's definitely something broken.
It's powered by one of those little Rotax units that's upsetting all the Lycoming and Continental traditionalists. Fully automated fuel injection by ECU taking care of the mixture. Turbocharged 1.4l that'll run on E10 from your local Tesco pump instead of nasty leaded Avgas.
That explains it then :) With avgas vanishing at an increasing rate, it makes sense that different engines are appearing.
