First look at the Parallel 42 Campout Utility in Microsoft Flight Simulator

- A bit of a departure from our usual airborn shenanigans today - we take a look at the "Bush Plane Campout Kit" from Parallel 42. I've known of the existence of this add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator for some time, but never got around to looking at it.

It essentially lets you construct elaborate dioramas within the simulator to simulate a camping field while en-route on longer bush-plane journeys. It works with any aircraft, and can store the configuration of kit you might put out around your plane. It even marks you on picking up your rubbish :)

The best part of this add on is that you can built your own runway for night by placing the lights on your airstrip. You can see them from far
I’m the type who would normally look at something like this and scoff, but man I must admit this actually looks like a very unique and cool addition to the sim. Imagine doing bush trips all around Alaska with this addon. Probably will buy this

Ha ha love it Jon, I know alot of serious flight simmers turn their nose up at this sort of thing, but at the end of the day what ever you're thing is on the sim their's something for everyone, keep up the good work. Gary

I think it depends on where you set-up in the sim, because I just tested it at a tiny grass runway KEDA and I heard nature sounds, wind and birds. You can also hear the campfire. :)

I never really was a big fan of Bush Flying in MSFS, I always totally saw what people love about it and that MSFS makes it always to a beautiful adventure but I never was really interested in it, was a fun for a few hours when nothing else to do but not much more... Till now, now since I have that for a fee weeks, I LOVE Bush Flying

I bought this on the MSFS Marketplace a few days ago because Orbx's installation process is way too invasive for my liking. Unfortunately that means I don't get the latest update (with the dogs) until Microsoft/Asobo get their act together. Still, it's a nice little mod

Warning - if you want the campout - do not buy from msfs marketplace. I assumed the Firefox Complete base package included this. An expensive mistake.
I just picked it up from the Marketplace and it works with any plane in the sim, not just the Firefox.
It is fantastic…….when only you could leave the scene behind and return to it. You can then build your own bush sites….but I understood that after a few days or so the scenery disappears😢
It is a little fiddly at first, but the addon allows exporting campout scenes as text. I keep a catalog of them in a text file and if I'm in the area just copy and paste them in via the import/export bit. You can also share these with friends and load their campouts too. I've seen them used with group flights to denote destinations for pickups/rescues etc. We load the campout text then fly our VFR route to the site. Great stuff! The doggos are just the icing on the cake for me :D

I just picked it up from the Marketplace and it says the campsite can stay for 7 days without visiting, before it disappears. But if you visit it often it stays. Something about not littering the sim. You get a bunch of eco-credits to use and recover, as you add or remove items, and each item you place in the sim cost a few credits. You get them all back as items or entire campsites are removed.
Like I said in your kitfox video being able to set up camp in whatever corner of the wilderness you want is cool, and this addon is really cool, but you're placing scenery not an airport so you can't spawn at your camp when you load into the sim. Spawning into a parking spot at a real wilderness airstrip - like the P42 ones - and setting up your camp around that parking spot sounds like it should solve that but I am a bit worried about ground traffic or those brain dead rampies stumbling blindly through the camp ... ;-)

That is genius. Does the flow system have a widget, as I don’t use the original top tool bar. “Well that’s another thing I have to buy now” 🤣 also does it save between flights? Each time log in it will still be there?
I discovered the other day - while visiting the airfield - that it remembers :) My dog was still sat there - waiting for the sausages lol

This is very cool. How do you install it just into the community folder? And also when you're moving around the campsite are you in drone mode?
Drone camera for the sweeping camera shots :) If you buy it from Orbx, their installer will take care of it for you.
once you exit the game, can you go back to your camp next time and fly from there?

Just be careful with your video title. Some people get caught out when trying to purchase the Campout Utility and mistakenly purchase 42BC Bush Plane Campout.
You're right - I didn't even notice that I had Orbx on the airfield rather than the camp out kit itself. I'll post a note.

A simulation of camping and camp fires etc...? What?? This is a part of flight simulation (addons) that I just cant get. But it is also a well done, just not for me :)

Camping is a very real part of bush flying.
I'll be honest, though I understand some people would love the whole campfire and tent thing, especially for photos and such, I would rather have robust systems modelling and in depth maintenance. Tents, pets and campfires will never do it for me.
Now where does the kitchen sink fit?
