great vid but I don't agree about the manual gearbox, imo the gearbox is great and can be very smooth
id like the m2competition with all gadges but keep the N55 Engine + the amazing sound ..

I would highly recommend it on an M2. It brings more light into the cabin (it really needs it because all the materials are black) plus you get more noise coming in :D
@@TunedIntoCars I agree mine doesn't have one unfortunately, but I love it! I have a 2018 in mineral gray! But seeing the sunroof in your car makes it look much bigger inside
Dude I can't describe how excited I am for tuesday. My M2 is getting a 11k€ Tuning Package by Laptime Performance. It's an amazing car and I am so looking forward to what Laptime can do to lift it up to yet another level.
Very well made and entertaining as usual , but something else caught my eye at the 10 minute mark ... Can't wait for that E34 video !

Enjoy watching your vids, I’ve been daily driving my 2017 M2 for over 2 years now, I even use snow tires and drive all winter, mine is white and 6 spd. Driving around town on the awful roads here in the U.S. can be a challenge as you mention, but I love driving it . Even after 2 years still get a lot of interest in the car from people on the street. I was considering a upgrade to the Comp model but not sure if the $25k would be worth it with a trade and my winter wheel package would not fit the Comp due to the larger brakes ;) ;)
Thank you! It's not worth losing that much to such a minimal upgrade. I personally am extremely interested in the new CS/CSL (whatever they decide to call it) model. I'm actually going to talk to my dealership to see if I can secure a spot. Now that would be an upgrade. Carbon roof, carbon brakes, 450hp, better suspension system, etc.

Great vid , I have the DCT version of this car and the gear changes are amazing. Even when jumping into the car when its cold , the gears are instant and smoother than a babies bum ( up and down) Because the car anticipates the next gear , it is spinning and ready to go 👍 It is the best car I've ever driven (an god knows I've driven a few) Beware if you test one of these , you WILL want one .
I did test drive a DCT car and I've loved it. But something convinced me to go with the manual. I don't regret my decision at all, except when driving around town :))

Fantastic video and awesome car, the best looking car out there by a mile, do you prefer your original m2 or your m2 competition. I own the original bmw m2 and absolutely love it. Keep up the great videos your very good at it.
Should've waited for the 2019 refreshed model.. The 19 m2 competition is awesome! This model is great as well though. Good review.
I've explained why I prefer this car to the M2 Competition in previous videos (Bigger price tag, exhaust sound and the lack of adaptive dampers). For the first generation BMW M2 owners like myself, I think that a more worthy upgrade is the upcoming M2 CS. An option I'm actively pursuing.
Finally saw the update for your M2. You are not getting any hate from me tho. I agree with you about all the things you said in the video even the shitty part of ≤2018 M2 the low speed transmission problem. But the best thing about this car is the fact that it's mine and I'm behind the wheel. +999999. It's the best M experience to me ever. Thanks for the post. Good vid!

Personally, the M2 is enough. The comp wheels are ugly. Yours is nice, and the M wheels look great! I have those wheels (19's) staggered, on my 335i Msport convertible!
great vid but I don't agree about the manual gearbox, imo the gearbox is great and shifting feel is very smooth unless I do a lazy shift or at full throttle lol

I really wanted this car so bad and after seeing all the amazing reviews I test drove one for a couple hours.
I honestly was expecting more and was kinda disappointed. First the power output felt weak. Steering was over assisted with fake feedback. That is not true sports car to me.
I did like the sound and looks.
The Comp is better with steering and power output, but that engine sounds awful. I tried launch control and I couldn’t stop laughing. It was the weakest sound launch I ever heard. I would be embarrassed using in public. People will laugh.
Power on the Comp is good on smooth back roads, but highway speeds, the engine definitely pulls power back. Not sure if bmw did this on purpose to protect the M4.
I’m still undecided and it will be a second car for me.
I wonder why you felt the power output was weak. What cars do you normally drive?

I’m keeping my RS3 and adding another fun car. I guess I’m just used to the power of the RS3 for the past year.
I was really stuck on getting an M2, but now just started looking at used R8 v10’s.
Thanks to your earlier video, I decided to take the last batch of M2 Lci instead of waiting for the M2C, and I love it! Have you tuned your M2 at all yet? I've changed the suspension on my M2 to KW V3, which makes the ride a looooot better...
It's completely stock now as I'm not yet 100% convinced I will keep it. I'll see what I decide after this winter.
Glad to hear the KW v3 is a lot better from so many sources. Getting mine built in on tuesday.
Very good review, I agree all these keyboard warriors going on about n55 Vs s55 when they don't take into account how the engine actually drives and makes you feel
I think most people that disregard completely the original M2 have never driven one
I also can't trust any reviews, I'm sure yes technically the competition is the more capable car, but suddenly they remember deficiencies with the OG M2 that were never mentioned in the first place. I have my sights set on the n55 M2
As you say the interior is all normal 2 series. So it baffles me whey buyer can't choose colour and trim options as they already exist.
Well it's quite easy actually. It's also the reason why they didn't put the S55 engine in the car from the beginning. One reason is cost cutting and the other one is not wanting the M2 to steal M4 customers, hence why the later had more customisation options available.

Also, I drove a 350z for years, don’t tell me about this masterpiece not being smooth. It’s a performance vehicle, it’s part of the package.
Well I'm not telling you anything. It's just an observation :) That being said I've driven other manual performance cars and I think BMW really needs to step up their game when it comes to manual transmissions.
In love with the sound of the car is it stock exhaust?
and do BMW pump the sound through the audio system too?
Unfortunately they do. At 4:21 you can hear the fake sound on the inside. At 4:51 the sound is coming from a microphone near the exhaust

@@TunedIntoCars I came from a MK7 Golf R into the M2, and I found while the R is a great daily driver, when pushing it to 9/10, it gets sloppy. It has a limit, and once you discover that limit, you find that it doesn't like being pushed beyond that. The F87 is a lot more dynamic of a driving experience, when you think you've reached it's limit, you play with the throttle and realize that, whoa wait, there's more! Good luck with your decision.

Why would you want to turn off the throttle blipping? That is the best part of the car.
You can't be serious :) almost ever single manual transmission car has a throttle blip function nowadays. Surely it's not the best feature of the M2.
But to answer your question I would like to turn off that feature so I can practice my heel and toe technique from time to time

The best part of the car is its balance, and it can be steered with the throttle - fun!!

Why you shift gears so slow? It's like 2-3 seconds from gear to gear.
That's just the way I shift gears. I call it careful, not slow :)

I transformed my LCI manual by putting Eibach lowering springs, 12mm spacers and Pipercross Arma intake. Better set, better turn in, less lag and more linear power delivery.....
I was also thinking about the lowering springs. I might try them in the spring

Crazy that people think this engine sounds so much better than the S55. I spent years around the N55- it's nothing special when dozens of models have had it for years. It only sounds better on cold start and when the motor is cold

Yep, the rock hit the edge of the screen and it just cracked. I'm scheduled to replace it soon
A golf is way more comfortable than this and I would like a gti or a R golf even if this is more faster
You buy this car if you want a proper drivers car, not to be comfortable. If you want something more comfortable you can buy an M240i

I'd also take a 911 GTS instead of my M2 any day but there's two problems with that: they're in a different class and two the 911 costs waaaay more. The same applies to the Alfa you've just mentioned

No, the car is NOT as good as people say it is... especially the way 90% of what the buyers use it for... only a very very smaller percentage of drivers buy this car for the intended purpose, track use and back roads. People buy it based on rave reviews on track and spirited driving... but as a daily? it's not that great of a car... get a M235i/M240i it comes with active suspension... but people don't buy those because it's not real ///M
So it's not as good as people say because buyers don't use the car for what is was built for? Also I highly doubt the car was made for track use. Especially considering the brakes it has and the tires it comes with as standard.
Not to mention that you can't get the best throttle response of the engine and have traction control off at the same time.
But I agree with you, the M240i is a much better daily.
Probably worded it wrong... not that the car was made for track use, but a car tuned to the mind focused on spirited driving. Which makes daily use of the car not that great.. apart from looks is the car better than a M240i (b58) or the M235i (n55) for daily city driving and commute? no. The gearbox is clunky in slow speed (dct or manual), the ride is harsh (as you mentioned built for faster speeds, to feel every bit of the road so you have full control, similar minded to a "sports/race" car), in my opinion, car is a stripped out M4 without the luxuries (more so in the M2 competition form).
I mean apart from BMW fucking their customers constantly through their constant upgrades, change of engine and name of cars, there's still a market for these kind of cars.. it's basically a cheap version of a cayman, a car for the "purist"..
As you can hear from my tone I'm not the biggest BMW fan these days, but still own one (1M), I don't like the way BMW's cars evolve the way they devalue their cars, for example, I bought a M235i back in 2014, they changed the name of the car to M240i, changed the engine to the B58 after 2.5 years, introduced a M2 in 2015 for only a few thousand dollars more, and 2.5 years down the line introduced a M2 competition... ultimately, when time comes for customers who bought ANY of the earlier models, their cars becomes completely worthless, M235i is worth 35-40% of original value, because there's M240 (which sounds much newer), M2 ahead (which value of depreciated massively already, which pushes all the other models down)... people who bought the OG M2, what's going to happen when you try to sell? It's going to be worthless, which car will people buy? a 2018 OG M2 or 2018 M2 competition? OG M2 will take a massive hit.
den525 that is true but their was plenty if warning before the m2 comp was released about price and the new engine, sure most said it was bs but if I had one I'd of got out before I lost a lot, it's obvious what is going to happen to the value once the m2 comp can catch up with demand, people want speed and the newest model and it addressed 99 percent of the m2 issues bar adaptive suspension which will come in the later models, people thought this was going to be like the 1m I have no idea why they thought that the m2 is as established as the m3 now, I wouldn't buy any car new but I should of bought this one drive it for a year then handed it back and I'd of lost nothing but I don't take risks 😣 nearly every car depreciates you have to remember the m2 did next to no depreciation it was a good car to hold its value I thought the 240i with the b58 would of took some value off but it didn't, it's done very well now the market will adjust

Yes it depends. Here in Sweden the value of the regular M2 is just fine because the Competition is more expensive here.
