It's was great about growing up during this time, there was so much great musicians and style. I had the pleasure to work with them many years later. They were just amazing.
Love your Reaction of Darryl. He has something magical with his soul voice, so much so that I'm sure listening to him eat his cereal at the kitchen table would sound incredible, almost perfect.
Daryl Hall is one of my all-time fave voices out there. I've never seen or heard this version of Sara Smile - just WOW. Love the whole vibe from start to finish. I've said for years if I only had one artist I could listen to from now until the end of time, I'd have to go with Daryl Hall. :)
Fantastic, Ken! Hall is simply a rarity among vocalists with that tone of his.. You mentioned daryls house..I saw one with Robin Zander and Robin was just crushing Family Man but the moment Hall jumped in.. You just go 'oh.. Right that's Darryl Hall' what tone! Great job on this, Ken you, yourself, were even soulful when talking about it. I love singing I love being able to sing.. It's really a great gift you've given me God bless, brother
Hall & Oats! Listened to them in my car on cassette tape. This was one of my favorite songs by them. This performance gives me chills, and so effortless. Hall was truly blessed as a singer. And his bank account shows it 😁
Oh man! LOTS of memories with these talented guys! When I was a kid in 1976, my brother and I would listen to our little radio and listen for Kasey Casem's Top 40 while writing down all the songs. This was one of them. We loved their songs. As time went by, their music became the soundtrack of my 'love life' with many GF's! Haha!
Thanks so much for responding to this version of Sara Smile. (They are all great but this one's special) And your expertise and love for the craft comes through. Thanks again. (Doing any of those live Q and A sessions soon?)
Back in the day, when we were all playin 6 N/W, we performed this nightly for months . Hearing you break it down, especially about singin it alittle different/peformance, makes me look back and have greater appreciation for Mike's vocal skills. I could care less in the 70's! LOL Now that Im singing in the 21st, this prompts me to get out some old live cassettes and RE listen to this and "Who's that Lady" and others in this Juandra. Thanks Ken !

Best duo in rock history and best harmonizing between Daryl Hall and John Oates. John Oates doesn't get enough credit for his beautiful harmonizing vocals. I think Daryl's house is so pretty cool because I've seen some great artists and my favorite Sammy Hagar has played on Daryl's house before with a bunch of others.
This was fun to watch. I love your critiques. I’ve been to numerous H&O concerts and I have to be honest here, the instrumental breaks go on forever. The last concert I went to of theirs was at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga CA (gorgeous venue) 3 years ago and as I was leaving I said that this might be the last H&O concert I’ll go to for a long time because many of their songs went on wayyyy toooo long. Being born and raised in Philadelphia (and currently still living there now), it made me really happy to see you do a video about Hall and Oates. I've seen Live from Daryl's House before. It's a great show. I don't know if you saw the episode when he had on The O'Jays? They're another group from the Philly Soul Music scene.

Hey Ken... I grew up in San Antonio, TX. As a teenager in the 70's we had an incredible radio station - KISS fm. Joe Anthony (the Godfather of Rock n Roll) and Lou Roney were the stellar DJs who brought us Rush, Triump, Judas Priest, Moxy etc. Those bands and more broke into the American market in San Antonio on that station. We were truly blessed to have such a great musical education as SA was the heavy metal capital back then. A band we call our own is Legs Diamond out of LA in the 70s. Not suggesting them necessarily for a reaction (would be great though) but wanted to know if you are familiar with them. They are the sound track of San Antonio and were a tight, tight band. Let me know what you think. Check out some songs... Women, Stage Fright, Fugative, etc.

Interesting point about the instrumental break. Once it makes you change focus from vocals and focus on something else, it has done it's job. The more they can keep it simple but still achieve that change, the more effectively it will come up a notch when the vocals come back in.
Their music is certainly part of the soundtrack of my life. This appears to be a performance from the German music television show, Musikladen. I just caught the "laden" portion on the sign at the beginning of the video. Not sure if historically that program gave artists more latitude in terms of improvisation, but if so, that is fantastic. I also recommend Foreigner's appearance on the German television show, Bananas (similar to SNL) from 1982 just for the stage set alone. The replica of Giorgione's Venus with the inclusion of a live model would not have been seen on U.S. television in the early 80s. I believe, however, that is the studio track of Break it up by Foreigner rather than a "live" performance.

H&O's one of my favorite groups of all-time. Daryl's mom was a voice teacher...and Daryl was a sessions musician/vocalist for Gamble and Huff, before forming H&O's. Can you react to Jessie J..I have Nothing..My heart will go on..Reflection..from Singer 2018? Thanx..great video as usual.
Thanks, William!
To analyze the song of the nightingale is to miss the experience of what it offers.
Daryl is one of two, yet still one of a kind.
Thank you, Val!
