They were so so close to bring the war to an early end, so many lives could have been saved, it really is a shame to think that it didn't work out because of pure bad luck
Actually, I'm glad it failed. It gave the Americans the needed time to finish project Manhattan , which they were working on and wouldn't have given up on for sure with how much effort, cash, resources and time they poured into it. A sooner end of the European theater could have meant more resources went in the Pacific which would lead to an early end, which would have meant two defeated nations, a nuclear weapon with no way to test its actual damage and consequences and a big question mark about just using it as a conventional bomb by some pen pushing leaders that don't know how physics and chemistry really work. So , by not focusing everything they had to the Pacific , due to 2 theaters existing , they ended up showing us real well in turn what the new weapons in our arsenals are capable of with a first hand demonstration to make everyone second guess themselves about ever ordering an actual strike in the future of our warfare on a populated area with a foe of similar capabilities. We could have never truly understood the grave danger and sheer scale of destruction without having a hands on demonstration and then realizing that what happened then is several orders of magnitude smaller than what we are capable now. Makes everyone real damn sure of what they're capable of and makes them second guess the decision. But to get back to your comment , yes it was indeed bad luck. The briefcase switched positions from the initial spot and the table was a pretty heavy and thick one. All this needed was one person willing to bite the bullet or someone to reposition the briefcase and make a hasty exit to gamble on his chances of survival by not being right in the room but in the area of effect.
Sometimes I wish WW2 ended differently, just for the sake of curiousity, the "what if". Would've changed the Wehrmacht's reputation today significantly.

Operation Valkyrie was the best thing that happened to Nazi Germany. It was a true uprise and take over of evil. It reminds of a lot of the Rebel Alliance fighting and taking over The Galactic Empire in Star Wars.

Regard the flag scene: In late 1944 when Germany was being bombed by the Allies and men busy defending both east and west front, I have to say the flag scene was really a bit overkill. These days you got ppl playin with games like Wolfenstein or Battlefield and really mess up their heads. All the fancy nazi footage with party flags hanging were mostly taken at the late 30's. Great movie overall, but the flag scene was really bit too exaggerate. If you like more accuracy portraying the Wehrmacht pls go watch Generation War or the Captain.
