    I have been doing simple euro mounts for the last several years, but ultimately wanting to tackle full taxidermy work. I've always been too intimidated to try, but after watching your full series of videos...this is my year to start!! Love the videos, very informative, attention to detail, and putting everything in basic terms. Thanks!

I lost interest for awhile but I think it's time lol I need to get a pickle an tan method down so I don't have to send out hides. Goodluck !

      Most folks focus too much on perfection rather than repetition early on, and taxidermy is definitely a hands on learning experience to get it right. In my opinion, the mistakes you make trying to learn teach you how to repair problems that you run into later. I think that's why a lot of taxidermists say there is only one way to do something because they were taught to deal with perfection rather than a disaster and a disaster is what you get sometimes hahaha

    I bought an air compressor at harbor freight for $60 that you can set the pressure on it. It works very well and I do lots of airbrushing, I mount lots of fish. Your advice of the equipment that's "good enough" is excellent advice. Here's a little airbrush advice for you... After you clean your airbrush, toss the left over wash thinner from the airbrush cup back into the paint bottle. Also there is a new airbrush on the market... Airbrush and compressor all in one... Battery operated, cost is $40 all in. When my compressor goes out I'll be buying one.

      Yeah, but this way needs touched up if u just brush it. Taxidermist need to remember these mounts will have to be dusted and brushed by customers over ownership. People get pissed when they run a comb through and all the paint comes off with it.

      @@thecedarridgechronicles I have the same issue on some of the feathers of a turkey mount, will this material work on feathers? As a painting contractor you would think I'd know these things but not in these areas. The rooms I have things displayed will at times receive sunlight in large areas of the rooms and the damage came quickly. I learned this fact years ago but the faded color was apparent on the beaver and turkey.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never tried it on feathers, but cosmetically I don't know why it wouldn't work, you would just lose the texture of the feathers, but that compromise may be worth it considering it's for looks and not touch!

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only problem with leaving it natural is that it doesn't dry a natural color. When the cape dries the leather turns a dark brown. Also most of the paint work is done to color the epoxy.

    I work on tractor trailers mobile & I use a big aircompressor I got from harbor frieght & builds up to 150lbs of pressure to run a 1inch impact to change tires so I had pipe a different nipple to run my smaller 1/2" impact & they have a reducer you can put on the outlet that you can turn the pressure down

    • @thecedarridgechronicles

      They are as far as the hair. The leather around the eyes and nose is discolored once it dries completely and must be painted to regain the natural look. Same with the nose pad and inside of the nostrils. Not really changing the color of the deer, just restoring what it was while alive

  • @DrDIY1
