    Penny seemed to be a well-spoken, sweet girl with a painful history.
    I was a homeless teen in Hollywood in 1986 due to drugs and alcohol addiction.
    I was blessed to get a bed in a rehab called Cri-Help (a nine month program) and have been a sober member of AA since.
    It was very difficult but gave me a new life.
    I also became an RN case manager who has worked with homeless patients for years. God Bless this girl’s soul.

      i’m proud of you. rebuilding your life from that hole you dug yourself is the hardest part. i’m 1 year 2 months sober off fentanyl off benzos off alc off everything. lost 7 years to it, im only 22. i had a gun put to my head over $40. $40 for ALEVES. mans rlly was boutta murk me, over $40, FOR FAKE PILLS. i’m in baltimore but shit is scary everywhere. i had to pay off my debts. n i did. i had to go to court, face my charges, i was facing 17 years. i checked myself into the er before court, detoxed, my heart went into tachycardia and then a arrhythmia from the fentanyl withdraw. i was in telemetry w a nurse supervising me 24/7 for 3 weeks. that nurse i will remember forever, she was so, so kind. she came into work on her only day off so she could sit in my room and eat w me. she’d gossip w me abt which nurse is dating who, she made me feel like a human for 20mins everyday. i NEEDED that. i went to rehab, brought my discharge n rehab papers to court, judge gave me probation so long as i keep pissing clean !!! i bought a car in cash. i bought myself a phone. a phone plan. insurance. i find out tmr if i got accepted for a apartment, im rlly rlly hoping i do 🤞 rebuilding my life from zero has been SO hard, but SO rewarding. it’s that satisfaction that i did this shit (w legal $$$ !!!) that keeps me goin. sober is SO worth it ❤️‍🩹

      Prayers don't work. Taxation of the rich, redistribution of wealth to fund social programs, strengthen schools, social security, free access to healthcare, etc. That will work. Everyone of us will need help at some point in our lives. Solidarity works. Working towards a common goal works. Prayers are useless, delutional and a sign of arrogance.

    • @ChosenWon
      @ChosenWon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @dynghivarn I agree that prayers don't work.
      Funding social programs is a great idea. It's cost effective considering the alternative.
      The rich (generally from capitalism) are, in large part, the reason the US is the best country in the world. Corporations tooled up for world wars, and it saved us. Granted, it's not always good, but in large part our success is tied to commercial enterprises.
      Think of any large city and what it would be without business

    • @ChosenWon
      @ChosenWon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @dynghivarn Healthcare is never free. You'll be told it's free in places like Canada. Take a look at their tax rate.
      Poor people have the best insurance in the world in the US. There's no deductible. They can be triple certified and get expensive drugs for free. The ER is their primary care. They can even take an ambulance there and not pay.
      Take an economics course. There's no free luch anywhere for anything

      @@dynghivarn well at least I’m trying to do something within my ability!! Your list sounds real good when you say it fast but You list a bunch of things that This country will never do !! Considering how this country is going and how they are acting? I would say your response is more delusional and arrogant than a simple one saying I pray for anyone going through this!
      Obviously, you don’t believe in God and the power of prayer, so now I’m going to pray for you because if you think this country is going to solve the problems first by taxing the richest people and moving wealth around to fund rehab and social programs,,,you are higher than Martian ass b/c that’s not part of their agenda!!

      I understand the interviewer had a motivation, of what I'm not sure, but clearly she was interviewing solely to get money, she seemed annoyed yet respectful. I understand fully what she's experiencing, well, minus not from the female perspective which I actually think is a bit harder on the streets.
      If the person who took her life reads this, if you're not a full blown sociopath, I hope you're haunted and you don't do that ever again, human life is worth more than 10 dollars, you're not a punk if you let it slide, I also hope you get your life together, you obviously are a danger to people around you.
      Interviewer, try to build rapport, be a part of the community you seem so fascinated with unless you're hunting, because it truly seems like you're hunting, there's an air of weirdness to this video.

      There are thousands of people in every city in America who are ready to help addicts. The sad part is that 99% of them will not take the help. They'll take money, but of course they won't buy food, or clothes. They'll just buy more drugs. I hate to say it, but this poor woman was so far gone she is actually better off dead. Whatever trauma she was running from will never affect her again. It was painful to see the mental anguish she was going through. RIP Penny.

    Tom you did a most professional interview without pushing her, hats off friend. I've been homeless a couple of times in my long life but for very short periods and while still having a job and car. She really did look wiped out and I wondered what happened to her chin. Just a week ago I had a day off and grabbed my metal detector, there was an old house I'd been wanting to detect for a long time and now signs were up that construction was about to begin and my chance gone forever. So I crept through some woods and came up to it and it looked perfect, but then I heard a voice, female. I stood there thinking, then shook my head and turned to leave. Suddenly a tiny young woman ran out onto the porch and asked if I was there to take pictures of the house. A tiny dog and a larger one came to greet me as well. I made small talk and tried to leave but she insisted I look at the inside of the house. I followed. It got really weird when she was showing me some shelves and old bottles and I got a creepy feeling and turned my head to see a young man sitting on a twin bed right behind me just smiling. I had no weapon, I'd forgotten my edc pocket knife. He got up and introduced himself and we shook hands. Then the young lady started showing me art she had painted. I told her the truth, that she was gifted and I'd buy one from her If I'd brought any money with me ( I always just bring ID ). She tried to give me one but I refused, telling her she could sell them. She said it was the best she could do with the few materials she had. They had no electricity and it was 95 at that point. The guy seemed very strange but she was so nice and sweet. I finally left and wished them luck, they didn't want me to do any detecting in the yard to draw attention and I understood. I left really bummed. No history discovered, only a young couple down on their luck in these hard times. A few days later I picked up some supplies for them while shopping for my son and I, I'm an old single dad. I vowed to go back the following week, this week, and give them a little help, not much but something. I pass by this location on my way to work and I ride a motorcycle most days. Going in yesterday morning, I spotted heavy equipment up by the house, my heart dropped. On the way home I stopped there, they were gone. Most of their stuff was still there. I stopped again today, no change and nobody had been there. It's Sunday so I guess the construction started end of last week, right after I met them. God only knows what happened to them and I just wish I knew that they were OK. So I got home and your video is the 1st thing I saw. Yes I'm very depressed, seeing this is just so terrible. The only silver lining in the dark cloud hanging over me right now is the kindness you showed this woman. God bless you friend.

I'm praying hard that they are safe. Take good care out there friend.

Anyone can come out of it although the more harmful drugs and the low price make it more severe today. Took me 16 years to recover and live soberly. So at 30, I was immature as a young teen trying to learn how to live in a very hard world. Easy for me now, thank God. 43 years+

    • @ChosenWon
      @ChosenWon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @paulryan2128 It's a combination of factors: upbringing, genes, life experiences, bad luck, depression, etc.
      It's interesting to me how many people blame the government. For what? And the number of comments indicating what a shame it was she was kicked out of rehab for no insurance. She didn't have private insurance. Medicaid pays for it. They don't " kick people out." Medicaid also pays for a person with a lifetime of drug abuse; i.e., HIV, $8300 aa month, for life, and all the other associated problems with drug addiction. Is it the government's fault she became addicted and didn't go to rehab? She offered a typical tale of woe to the uninformed that may give her some money. It's BS. If you experience drug addiction with people like this, you'll find they quickly become experts at manipulation and lying. Drugs rule their behavior. They always need more, and having people give it to them is one of the many means to an end

It's a nasty cycle and not a good enough excuse to do something like that to Penny. But, it is reality, and it is awful. I would imagine that one's judgement is not normal when you live in such desperate conditions. It is really tragic, how our indifference towards each other has become so....normal, even for people who are not living like Penny did. I think most of us are indifferent these days. I know Penny is in a better place now. She is definitely resting in peace. This video made me cry so much. I can't imagine what kind of animals would hurt her. I'm in my 60's and I can tell you one thing: we all pay for the horrible things we do. I remember the bullies from high school. I know where they live. Their lives didn't fare so well.

    • @Yosetime

      That makes the old saying: 'What goes around, comes around' a very true statement. I'm a GenX with grown kids and a slower life than I used to have. And with that extra time I do little things to help my neighbors, or anyone who asks for any help that I am able to provide. Some people ask me why I give without asking questions or do a little chore for someone for nothing but a Thank you, and I always reply with: Because I can, because we all should, because I have been helped, selflessly and generously, in the past by friends who cared about me and I need to honor that by paying it forward. I could list a hundred reasons why. But neither I nor anyone else needs a reason to be kind and helpful without judgement or questioning. I'm pretty sure that's what we're all here to do. We just don't all know that yet. I'm fairly confident that once the next hundred years of climate change sucks the life out of the planet, my grandchildren and their children will have gone through something like the Great Depression. And that will change the way humans live. It will have to be for the better too. Because there is no other way. Fingers crossed and knock on wood!

    Hello I did read everything that you spoke on under the description of video... I wanted to say that you are totally right when it comes to being yourself and doing what YOU like to do when it comes to your channel and who cares what anyone thinks... Its not a popularity contest... Though through the years your channel has seen a decline in popularity but only because of the content ... When you started up with interviewing people of all kinds from the streets and giving them a voice people listened... The content was raw and unfiltered... You were actually one of the first really bringing awareness and showing the darker ugly side of life(im talking 6 yrs ago)..... You didn't just get their story but you followed up on them and kept everyone updated. ... You made their life a part of your viewers... Love Your Videos.... There's other channels who are doing the same thing and their not being monetized for saying or referring to things.... I just noticed that they will mute the sound but not edit it out or use street lingo... I know you still do videos like the old days here and there, I just think if you did them like back in the day or update on ones you have already done to bring people curious of them back to the channel.... Bring awareness so they can get help.... Donations ... Or find family.... just a suggestion. ... I hope you always do what you love and keep the great content coming

    • @ChosenWon
      @ChosenWon  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. I started a channel to Chronicle my life. That's it. I have never once asked anyone to like, hit thumbs up or subscribe. It was never about creating a channel for others. TH-cam makes or breaks a channel. Their philosophy changes. My type interviews with street people that use drugs or talk about them are no longer promoted. I haven't monetized a video in over a year. If you research channels like mine that have a change happen, there's really no way to get back to being recommended again. Thanks. I'm fine with it.

    A society that duz care/help its weakest members, deserves to go under. Towards the end of losing ur soul to this world, it takes so little to pluck a person out of the fire. Tom , u treating her with kindness and opening others eye's is truely God's work. U could tell no one had spoke to her like she was a person in awhile.

  • @mortkb

    TH-cam should allow almost any content that deals with real world issues. Drug addiction is a serious issue and to hide it only limits people like you to show people how bad it really is out there. Best of luck to you. I subscribed and liked.

    This is what Aldean's song is about. As a people, we need to unite to protect ourselves. This girl did not deserve the death she received. Yes, she made horrible decisions. She made her life. Yet, every minute of every day is an opportunity to change. Those were stolen from her. She needed protection, even from herself. Not to be preyed upon.

    It makes me so sad that her life was in such a terrible situation and that it ultimately ended. Such a hard life. People can criticize people not caring for her medical issues, but her family unit abandoned her first. People need to start with this disease BEFORE it starts and gets to this. RIP Penny, you didn’t deserve this. 🕊️

    Sad to think earlier in life she was a young girl that had hope and dreams and aspirations. Assuming someone at one point during childhood loved her or cared for her. Bad decisions mixed with horrible circumstances make those aspirations a second thought. It’s impossible to build for your future when your just trying to survive to the next day. Sorry to hear about this young lady’s passing. Hug your children every chance you can. Let them know they are loved unconditionally.

      @@I-Have-The-CuckooWell,this interview isn't about hatred of men. It's about some event that launched her into drugs and a risky existence, and there's also the role high rents have in keeping someone homeless. I would not want to be in my 30's or 40's today ! What Penny needed was a good, competent caseworker,who could have steered her into both rehabilitation and affordable housing.

Life could have easily taken a bad turn for each one of us. We could have been wired to do what Penny chose to do. Sad to hear she was murdered. She is actually beautiful! Her eyes are absolutely angelic. So sad . I have nearly three years clean off heroin. I never thought it was possible. It absolutely is , you just have to want it more than anything else in the world. It’s not easy but it is possible. I was homeless at one time also. I pray every day that I can make it through another day clean and sober. I struggle every day , working my butt off to make the rent ! I am disabled but I work anyway , I keep myself busy with my cleaning business . I’ve picked up hobbies , painting is one of them. I also write and sing. I actually released two albums years ago. Just not really into the music business anymore. It’s triggering to me. My sobriety means more to me today.
