Grimes has said she often exaggerates or makes crazy things up during interviews because it’s wild what people will believe about celebrities. Grimes is a character that she puts on. Would take anything she says with a grain of salt.
Yeah, she was probably trolling, like the Martha Stewart one
I don't know pregnancy is a wild time, at one point I could only eat spicy vegan nuggets and mango because everything else tasted awful and made me gag. Water at one point tasted like a dirty penny, you find what you can stomach it and run with it lol
But she is a character so who knows
It's wild what people will believe about celebrities...when they make those claims? What's the logic here. "Haha, you believed what I told you about myself. Got you, sucker!"?
I love how non judgemental Abbey is and how she is looking at things from Grimes' point of view and acknowledges how difficult pregnancies are
Thank you!
yeah except Grimes is a millionaire and can hlave experts help her through it without endangering her child
@@AbbeysKitchen No.

What do you mean, “no”?
Yeah, because that is how we should behave when a pregnant millionaire who is married to a engineer, is malnourished... Heaven forbid we judge someone who has every reason to know/do better... If you need to eat insane amounts of caffeine just to wake up in the morning, and cannot figure out basic nutrition, you should not be getting pregnant. Period.

I mean her lifestyle is a hot malnutritious mess but I admire the honesty😂
@jib jabs mcadoo If you watch the original video she said she predominately lives on a diet of carbs and fat. Shes forced herself to eat some fruit and vegetables. As she was on tour a while back and only ate pasta. Which resulted in her ending up at the doctors because she was malnourished. So yes I am fully aware.
@jib jabs mcadoo the questions is do you listen to the videos you "watch" or do you just harass people in the comments...? Because she specifically said in this video that she went to the doctor for hair loss and was MALNOURISHED...
@jib jabs mcadoo This isnt because shes pregnant she just naturally has a limited diet of what she likes. She introduced meat, fruit and vegetables as well as upped her intake for the sake of the baby and herself. And she ate straight up spaghetti for two years so yeah I imagine she was pretty malnourished. A medical professional who has actually treated her has more knowledge than you I'm afraid.
@jib jabs mcadoo She was a vegan who didnt like fruit and vegetables. She used to eat one meal a day that's it and she goes to bed at 6am and wakes up at noon. What about that screams balanced to you. A vegan is going to be deficient in vitamin B12, Calcium, Zinc and Iron if they're not consuming an adequate amount of other whole foods to make up for it. Either that or supplementing like crazy. And whilst it is harder to suffer adverse effects from not eating fruit and vegetables short term. The effects on longevity and quality of life are clear. You need vitamins and minerals.
@jib jabs mcadoo not all illness has to be visible. The best time to catch things is before it becomes so bad that it's visible. She probably looked fine but a trained medical professional told her she was malnourished so she had to make changes and it seems like she's only scraping by
Abbey is the first dietician I've seen that doesn't seem to shame anyone regardless of food choices but instead offers suggestions for more nutrition. She seems so friendly and down to earth!
Yeah, I use to skim the what I eat in a day page in people magazine, and one time the writer shamed the celebrity for having like.. three cookies at lunch, even though she ate very healthy otherwise.
I love it because it makes nutrition so much more accessible. Instead of “give up everything you love” approach that makes me shut down, it’s “add these things to make things more balanced and feel better.” Which I have been consistently doing for over a year now, funny how my diet became more balanced as a result! I appreciate Abbey so much
She should rename "sludge" to "Elon Mush"

I love Grimes as a public figure and musician but watching her WIEIAD was rough. It seems like she cares very little for her health. It's great that she doesn't stress about her weight and doesn't demonize food but she shouldn't be praised for disregarding her health either. It's just another extreme.
I know she doesn't seem like she stresses about her weight (or at least not during pregnancy), but for years before her pregnancy there was definitely some concern about her being very thin. There might be more going on under the surface than she lets on.
@@parissinclair6513 I thought she looked too thin but I myself never saw anyone else comment on her weight. I wouldn't blame her for keeping those things private.
I too agree on this.
@@parissinclair6513 maybe i'm thinking of someone else.....but hasn't she talked about having an eating disorder in the past?
@@angelfrmabov32697 I think that might be someone else. Taylor swift is someone who's spoken very candidly about it, but the most Grimes has touched on it is recently admitting "I was probably too skinny before".

It's so true. People will make the stupidest choices about health to avoid being in "diet culture"
@@kristenstewart1250 @Kristen Stewart i don't know that it's diet culture thing with her i think food (especially fruits and veggies) is just not exciting to her. whatever she’s eating it’s working. Or I guess this proves how much genetics matter
I wouldn’t be surprised if she had oily skin when she was younger. That helps keep wrinkles away! And her bone structure has a youthful look too
Seeing her diet made me feel sooo good. I struggle to eat due to depression and some days it's just a matter of eating whatever my body will accept. In addition, my sleeping schedule is a mess and hearing Grimes talk about waking up at 12 or 1 gave me a lot of validation. Funny how a celebrity diet video could affect me so much.
I'm glad it was helpful for you!
Sending love your way 🙏
I think analyzing this video from a nutrition standpoint is HILARIOUS. I love when she like reluctantly admits that vegetables are "important or whatever"

Also, I feel like cottage cheese is super underrated in the Western countries, perhaps because of the consistency and all the weird jello 50s recipes. It's a major staple here in Ukraine and it's amazing. More people should be eating sirniki, which is where you puree (or push through a sieve) cottage cheese with an egg, a little bit of flour and sugar, and fry it as small patties, which you can serve with sour cream and/or jam/honey - so, so delicious and filling. It's like tiny hot cheesecake things for breakfast.
I grew up on cottage cheese here in the U.S. - my mother always served a little scoop of it on my plate with a sandwich and some fruit for lunch. I like it because it's so versatile. You can make it sweet or savory, you can use it as a substitute for ricotta cheese, and blend it in smoothies. These days I'm trying to eat more vegan meals so I don't eat it very often anymore, but it's a great food.
I think it’s cuz in Russia/Ukraine the cottage cheese is more so farmers cheese and not salty so it tastes better (at least to me) ... I find that Americans/ Canadians typically have salty cottage cheese and you can’t find unsalted cottage cheese at the store which is annoying
@@AwesomelyAna good point - when I lived in the UK I stopped eating it because it was always really runny and salty so it was basically useless to me lol

@@isabeli.9481 That sounds really good. Do you just slice up avocado and tomato and put in on the hot dog? Or is there some special preparation? I want to try it.
@@kickballfever we mash the avocado and cut the tomato in cubes. The order is sausage - tomato - avocado and then ketchup, mustard or mayo. Or all 3, depending on how you like it. There's people who put the tomato after the avocado but those are crazy people 😂
i love how abbey analyses grimes' normal 'intermittent fasting / OMAD' 'diet' and it's like the girl is just a crazy pixie, ain't no detailed diet plan she's doing haha
I wonder if Grimes is neurodivergent? this is really the first time I’ve ever seen her sit down and talk but a lot of the things she says and the way she speaks and moves makes me feel like she might be. I feel her on the illogical food aversions like hating vegetables but loving salsa verde and eating the same food literally every day.
Yeah, tbh watching the original video definitely pinged my radar. It gave me hardcore flashbacks to being adhd in university. Lots of coffee, eating felt like an interruption so I'd throw literally anything on hand together so I could get back to whatever I was doing. My preferred meal was a microwaved potato with ranch dressing
Oh for sure! Strong aversion to food textures and tastes is super common in ASD or ADHD. A need for sameness in ASD means that you have no problems eating the same food every day. Executive dysfunction makes it difficult for you to keep a well-stocked fridge and follow recipe directions, therefore limiting your food choices. Bipolar disorder can throw your appetite out of whack or trigger impulsive behaviours around food. Borderline personality disorder can make someone idealise certain foods to the extreme and over-consume them at the expense of others. I don't mean to diagnose her because it's not my job, but you made a really good point
Good question. Idk why but i eat salad with cheese and nuts everyday at lunch. Sometimes lunch and dinner 🤣😱 i love it and cant get enough
Came here to say exactly this. Her food aversions scream "SPD" to me. I've got a couple of neurodiverse kids and a touch of sensory stuff myself and we all struggle with certain foods. That whole myth that all kids love bananas? Hahaha, nope. Neurotypical kids maybe. But mooshy, slimy foods and kids with sensory processing troubles do NOT mix, lemme tell ya. Gag city, friends...
@@ellilee8397 Didn’t Elon Musk claim he has asbergers too? So they’re two neurodivergent fools in love.

Interesting!
The traditional in South East Asia is if you are pregnant, sick or on your period 😅 you don’t have to fast buuuuuut you should try to make up for the days you missed during the rest of the year.
I knew that too! Thanks for clarifying for everyone else though 💛

Same thing for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. I need a snack between meals to keep my stomach happy and my energy level existent so no fasting for me. Also, keeping it high protein is the only thing that keeps me feeling stable throughout the day, but I was super happy I managed to do the no meat thing so far. Last pregnancy I didn't even try because I was just trying to survive lol
I found out my unintentional "fasting" like she described has to do with ADHD. I don't eat because it's too hard to decide what to eat and begin the steps of actually making it sometimes.
I do the same! Sometimes, especially when dieting and counting calories, deciding and doing the math and whatnot is exhausting so you just decide not to at all because it’s less stress

Hi Abbey, love your videos! :) in the future could you do a video on digestive disorders (IBS, IBD, Celiac) and how to adequately fuel your body when you are facing digestive issues. ❤️❤️
This is such an awesome suggestion!!!!
On the list to do this!
Yes please! Currently in the middle of an IBS flare (going on 4 weeks now) and the only thing that seems to help is fasting. I eat a banana for breakfast and a small bowl of rice for dinner and drink a ton of peppermint tea. So far I’m down to 110lbs from 120 and could really use some tips to get some more calories in without being doubled over in pain later.
Fellow IBS and SIBO sufferer here, that would be awesome. I went on a very strict SIBO diet but it was very hard to maintain, even after the initial super strict period (about 6 weeks) was over. Being super restrictive definitely led to a period of rebellion where I just went Fuck it, and ate whatever because tbh I still suffered diarrhea and constipation on the diet that was supposed to help my symptoms. It alleviated gas, cramps and bloating but that's only half of the struggle 😓

God forbid there would have been green juice in this. Maybe then there would have been a reaction from her
I love this video. Very informative. I knew who grimes was but didn't know much about her. She has such chaotic energy but I love it. I also love her view on food and diets. I try to do the same. Not limiting foods by meals is really helpful.
Glad you enjoyed!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
My daughters used to throw fits over food. The following day I would serve green goo on toast. They actually ended up loving it. Steamed spinach, mixed with canned chicken, tossed in a olive oil, Parmesan cheese, garlic and chive sauce. Served over sourdough toast.
I can see why Elon likes her.
She actually brings tears to my eyes, she is so real and unscripted. Including in most of her food choices. They are largely original, not chosen for her. And she's just honest and real about it all.
OMG been waiting for this since she brought up "sludge" on Harper's Bazaar. 😹
This was so wholesome! You’re so kind, Abbey! 💖
😊❤️
Here in chile we eat Completos Italianos: a hotdog with diced tomatoes, mashed avocado, mayo, ketchup and mustard if you want. THE FCKN BEST. To all non chileans and non completoitaliano connoisseurs you shoul try it
Toma tu chilean like haha
@@camila.venegas01 JAJSJSJSJSJSJAJS necesitaba compartir el regalo del completo italiano con el mundo
In Brasil we eat hotdogs with mashed potatoes in it+all the things you can imagine 😂😂
Sounds amazing!
it's phenomenal! i had a massive one in Santiago once, nothing beats it!
i just stumbled upon this video (i’m not really familiar with Grime’s stuff, and i don’t really follow a lot of diet stuff!), and i REALLY love how you approach people’s dietary aversions, restrictions, attempts, etc. i have a lot of problems with my stomach because of anxiety, and a lot of problems with food because of OCD-like thoughts - “is this food spoiled” “is there something bad in this” “it’s GOING to taste bad” “you’re going to get sick” - and all of the weird food combos i’ve found to get nutrients work for me, even if it doesn’t sound like the most amazing meals to others. it sounds like you really advocate for these kinds of people and i’m very excited to watch your vids all night now!!!
omg also, salt and vinegar and chocolate is my faaaaaavorite!!!!
I love how unpretentious her eating habits are, and I love how positive you are about her choices :)
Love that you looked at the bright side and didn’t judge her too much! This was lovely.
I always knew my diet was bad but I didn’t know just *how* bad it was (a lot of pizza, mac&cheese, pasta, fast food, chocolate, other processed foods and snack; not enough fruit and vegetables) until I started watching these videos.
Thank you, Abbey, for educating us through these videos. You’re the reason I have started to eat healthier. There’s still a lot of room for improvement for sure, but baby steps. 😁
I'm so glad they are helpful!
I ate once a day at a period of time, but then I was so poor that I literally couldn’t afford food. The once meal was a single portion of porridge. Thank goodness I had multivitamins...
oh my god i hope youre better off now 😂😂😭
I'm so sorry 🙁
Thanks, Abbey! I’m a bit better off now, I lost my job due to the pandemic, but at least I have a bit of savings left and the benefits is enough, for now, to feed myself and my cat.
I remember during both my pregnancies, some people gave me a hard time for my ONE cup of coffee I had each day. Pregnancy is hard, I couldn't eat things I loved, like eggs and mushrooms and oranges and I almost always had hot peppers of some kind in my meals lol
I'm sorry! I discuss caffeine and pregnancy on this post in my blog www.abbeyskitchen.com/foods-to-avoid-in-pregnancy/ if you're interested 😊
@@songpoetry1 it sounds to me like it was more of a personal aversion
@@laurenbi Oops, makes sense.
@@laurenbi yea, I hated that i couldn't eat them, but I couldn't even handle the smell..and it was like that for both pregnancies
wait you can't eat mushrooms ??
This video gave me even more respect for pregnancy 😂 I love how you always educate us in a positive way. You are my go-to girl when I need kitchen inspiration, or just a nice video to listen to while I go about my day!
Aw thank you! I'm so glad it's helpful 😊
Pretty sure her diet and kid name are both her trolling to protect their own privacy. lol I love her she’s nuts and genius
I’m sick and feeling so under the weather, you’re what I needed to cheer me up.
I hope you feel better soon!
My favorite spaghetti recipe is using chickpea pasta, then making my own pasta sauce with tomatoes, basil, bell peppers, butternut squash, and adding some protein powder in. It’s weird but I know for days that I need easy meals if I have this sauce prepared it makes my life easier
5:06 clarification: you're exempted from fasting if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, mestruating, have to take meds, are too sick or old to fast, travel etc. I wonder why these women decided to fast anyways...
Thanks for the info!
Maybe it was fasting in early pregnancy and they didn’t know yet? I didn’t hear the full details of the study but that’s my guess.
As a part of my journey to a healthy relationship with food I’ve decided to quit all content that has to do with food or body image
Except this channel, because it normalizes food , and although she says it can be triggering it actually helped me a lot
I'm so glad it is helpful for you! ❤️
Same. It's the only safe place. I avoid all other food channels.
Me too, it helps me remember food is fuel
As a UK subscriber, I really appreciated the Neil Buchanan insert. Complete 90's kids legend !!
😊👍
I love how positively you spoke about grimes' diet. I've never seen a video of urs but i loved it!
Me reading the title: “this is gonna be BAAAAAD”. I’ve seen the original video that’s why I thought that. Grimes is so talented tho lol
I just stumbled across one of your videos by accident and as a lifelong picky eater/ARFID sufferer, the way you talk about picky eating with compassion and without disdain or power tripping is truly refreshing. It means a lot that there are dietitians out there who treat people like me with the empathy we need to expand our palates and eat more comfortably.
For what it's worth, if it helps anyone at all: it helps me to zero in on what foods are causing me the most intense discomfort (in my case, onions) and cut them out completely. Like, so long as it's not a category like "any vegetable," being able to cut out the ingredient reduces a LOT of fear from trying new foods. Learning to say "absolutely no onion" for foods, not buying it for my kitchen, has opened up so many foods that I never imagined I could eat comfortably bc I figured out what it was that made them "bad foods" for my senses.
A reductive solution sometimes leads to opening up huge swaths of new foods :)
Happy eating!
Buttered toast sounds like a dream
@C in Spain toast with olive oil is really typical.Extra virgin olive oil! Sometimes also with sugar, but only oil is fine and healthy because is an amazing oil and good product. But I don't know if where you live you can find such good oil as spanish extra virgin olive oil.
Toast sounds like a dream..? 😂
I love this so much, I watched another person do this and all they did was hate on her for the whole thing, so happy to see you understanding her and giving her tips.🥰
Kinda wanna smear toast in some melted butter and add some jam to see what it’s like
I don't wanna try it just because i think i would LOVE IT too much to the point of heart disease 🥺
i tried making it on my birthday and it is amazing
I put both butter and jam on my toast! It's superb!
The issue is the whole stick of butter hahahahahha
I’ve done it and it is excellent. It’s also the perfect depression food 😂
I love the lack of judgement in this video, I would feel so comfortable with her as my dietician she’s so gentle about the topic and doesn’t judge what you eat understanding how life can be she just does her job and guides people in the right direction.
Aw thank you! ❤️
God I would be terrified of not getting enough Vitamins during pregnancy. I logged my food into cronometer every day when I went vegetarian, just to make sure I'd get enough iron. I ate beans like 3 Times a day and was afraid of not getting enough iron😂
Tha's great!
I had hyper emesis and struggled to keep anything at all down for almost my entire pregnancy, I was constantly worried about the nutrition side of things as I couldn't keep vitamin pills down either and was baffled that my doctors weren't bothered at all!
I think that's a creative type thing. Most of my friends in art class will survive on snacks and coffee and then suddenly remember we have a human body that requires food. I have to meal plan just to remind myself to eat 😂
Sorry I know this is an old comment but I’d just like to second this!^ Needing to eat at regular intervals is a massive inconvenience for me when I’m writing. Just basic human things like eating or showering are a massive annoyance lmao. I think Grimes very much has that energy.
I have to say I was VERY (positively) surprised about how non-judgemental this was. AND also actually informative and educational. Congratulations!
Knowing Grimes, I still feel like the baby’s name is her just messing with us lmao
Plus the rest of Elon’s kids have fairly regular names so they are for sure just fucking with people
@Hercules Shakespeare this made me laugh because I thought your legal name was “Hercules” for a second
i must be living under a rock cos ive never heard of grimes!!
Same 😂
She do be sending you into Oblivion now
Watch the video where she talks about her diet lmao tbh i thought it was so entertaining. 😭 Blair Walnuts also did a vid eating like her, if you like Blair. Blaire?
@Sam Elle and under 24 hours we meet again... Good to see you!!
Wow! I hope you enjoy the video still
I love you sm thank you for being so kind and compassionate. It’s contagious
I'm 34 weeks currently, and boy I HAAATED veggies, fruits, and proteins for the first 14 weeks. I even tried sneaking proteins in, like pureeing the beans as you recommended...nope! Was not happening. I could only eat Larabars and Off The Eaten Path chips. I was SO stinking happy when that phase passed.
Also! Abbey, I LOVE your sweater!!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. And thank you!
Grimes seems really lovely and a chill person to hang out with. I bet she'd be a cool mom!
For sure!
Yah I absolutely love your channel. You’re so insightful while being non judgmental, and I take your advice and hear your voice when I choose my meals lol
Aw I'm so glad it's helpful! ❤️
Abbey thank you so much for all of these videos! I have learned (and continue) to learn so much about nutrition and our body’s needs. Although I’m far away from fully intuitive eating, I am so much kinder to myself and my body and have finally started the process of loving my body thanks to you ❤️ can’t wait to continue to learn!
Thank you for sharing! I'm so glad they're helpful 😂
This combo of type A Abbey and... whatever the fuck Grimes’ personality type is, is GOLD. Don’t know anything really about Grimes but kinda fell in love with her here.
25 minute video thats been up for 7 minutes already has a dislike? Pfft. People are the worst!
Adore you Abbey! ❤️
❤️❤️
You mentioned the Ramadan study at the beginning and it reminded me of something I thought would be an interesting video. Lots of people fast or intermittent fast for a variety of religious reasons at different times and different ways, not for wait loss. I know you did a video and have spoken about intermittent fasting in the realm of weight loss myths but I would really appreciate it if you did a video talking about the different research around fasting and safe fasting. I know a lot of dietitians are against fasting and some are all for it. Obviously fasting choices should be decided person to person but I feel a resource for some general safe practices and information would be really nice.
Just a thought. ☺️
Thanks for the suggestion!
Dude these takes are so kind and well-intentioned, also creative and actually interesting. Pureeing white beans in with mayo sounds actually really effing delicious as hybrid-hummus spread
I tried the sludge recipe after I watched the original video and I've made it every other week since! It's really good
I'll have to try it!
Abbey thank you so much for making this video! I am currently pregnant and have not been eating healthy at all. I’ve been feeling guilty, but you made me realize that it’s better to have something in my body! & you’re right about babies really taking what they need from us! The timing of this video was perfect, and I can’t thank you enough.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
You should review Jazmin Tyler What I eat in a week, you're going to love her. I love watching your videos, they are super entretaining and educational.
I would love a review of Jazmin Tyler !
On the list!
Def doesn’t sound like fasting, sounds like adderall, which NO shame, just coming from a perspective.
She’s pregnant, so not taking adderall lol
