@@CabbageSandwich Yeah, and you’ll be surprised how much you miss those days. Well, maybe not all that much. Little kids, little problems. Wiping up shit is probably the easiest thing you’ll deal with in the scope of things. First lesson you learn that carries over into real life… if a kid is puking in a play pen, do not try and move them. You’ll be cleaning up a trail of puke and probably getting puked on as well. Let them finish and then clean up. IRL… life will puke on you at some point… job loss, unplanned expense, family problem. Don’t rush to try and fix and make a giant mess in the process. Step back, assess the situation, and clean it up.

Ok here's the thing: I got my own license a few months ago, at the beginning of April, on the same day I took the driver test for the first time and passed. So, we drive the car I used over to the DMV section of the lot, and by we, I mean my dad and I. Fast forward to the pics, it takes us a while to get the photo done because we're singing all sorts of documents about me and my parents.
Finally, its my turn. I take off my glasses as well, and they take the photo; *It looks like a mugshot of a female teenager who just murdered someone.* (I'm not even joking!) My mom and go back to a different DMV for a second photo a couple of weeks later, and she had applied makeup to my face and helped me style my hair a certain way so that my photo looked better. We take it, and I'm shocked: I look like BOTH of my parents! I'm not even joking, I have my mom's eyes, lips, hair, but the rest of my features are of my dad. I look great in the photo now, but its funny how everyone I know says sometimes I look like one of my parents, or both of them. Just thought I should share that XD

Mostly hated the dictator phase but as I grew up and started to face my own problems, only then did I realise the importance of things he did for me. He was sick and worked through it, hated his job but still continued to do it and most importantly sacrificed A LOT of things and gave up on his dreams and free time to make life easier for me. A superhero when he tries something daring like eating tinned octopus.
A clown when he makes really odd or overly perverted jokes.
A tyrant when he threatens to throw water on me if I don't get up "NOW".
A (technical) suit when he's running around tired but doing important chores.
A bodyguard when he jumps in the middle of fights to save my sister and/or I.
Me when we sit down and enjoy the same stuff together and can predict semi-accurately what the other person's thinking, going to say, finds amusing, etc despite the 29-year gap and us being of different genders. He's the parent I'm most compared to and despite his own individual (and understandable) flaws, my dad is awesome.

When this was on TH-cam I was at the “my dad is a dictator” age, now I’ve been working for a few years and he is counting days before retirement. Last week I went back to my parents’ place and we were talking about a big national-wide protest back in the 80’s. He said he was in it too, he even led the students of his class and designed the slogans and signs. For 26 years he has never spoken about it, I feel like I know so little about him, it is kinda hard for me to connect my a bit stubborn and old-schooled dad to that aggressive and passionate student leader in a protest. I should really start knowing my father. My childhood hero and my best friend.

Sadly that was me. I married much to young never realizing how hard it was going to be. Not an excuse. It was my fault. I screwed things up, but I can tell you in all honesty I never meant to become such a drunk or hurt or leave them. I never laid a hand on either of my kids (I wasn't a mean drunk). I always did and always will love my kids. I was a good provider... money wise, but now I know how little that means. At least I've been sober for 20 years now. Almost as long since I've seen my son. On the upside, I see my daughter and grandson now. Maybe you're dad will surprise you in a good way someday. I hope so. All the best to you.

LOL My father drove my me and my friends to the beach once when I was a teenager...it was my 15th birthday, When we got there, after my guy friends waxed their surfboards, he asked to borrow one before he left. We were like, "wha...?" Then, to my surprise, he paddled out and ended up surfing wave after wave on my friend's longboard. When he got in, my friends were cheering. I told him I never knew he could surf..he just looked at me and said, "there's a lot of things I did that I don't do now," with a laugh. He gave me a kiss and hug. When I got home that night, he and my mom were watching tv. I walked into my room, and saw a stack of something he left on my bed. I walked over to see all his old albums on my bed from The Beatles, The Grateful Dead (there was a pressed pot leaf in the inside cover he forgot about that I left there to this day!), The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin I,II, III, & Zoso, etc. The note just said, "Happy Birthday."

AnnaElisavetta Vonnedozza That's one awesome father right there! Something similar happened with my grandfather who died less than a year ago of cancer. While he was getting weaker, we had to spend mostly the entire day with him, and while we talked, we started to find out about things he did before we were born with my siblings. We all knew he worked at a bank and had a high position in it, but we never knew that he played basketball, soccer, raced and was part of the administration of a soccer team. After we found out all of that, we had topic to talk for literally the rest of his life. When I found out about all he did, I feel like I'm wasting my life!
