I can't find the term 'Immortal Soul' anywhere in the Bible. I have really looked, but it really isn't there. Actually, Ezekiel 18 tels us very clearly that the Soul can die. But I'll bet most people will just ignore that!!!

The "Immortal soul" is a pagan concept. The egyptians believed in the Ka (spiritual body) that would go to the afterlife and be weighed on a scale and be judged accordingly. And today, all of christianity believes the serpent and teaches about the immortal soul.

I've been a "Born Again" Christian for nearly 50 years now. I've often been accussed of heretical leanings for pointing out how the Bible cannot be literal, my questioning of Moses even existing etc. I find it incredible how almost everything you raise in your videos is something i've questioned. I'm convinced that a deeply thoughtful approach to faith is one very valid path to God. Have you any thoughts on how the story of Moses discovery in the ark of bullrushes mirrors that of Sargon The Great, found in an ark amongst the bullrushes 1500+ years earlier?

They based so much of their teaching on the literality of these texts. You are proof of that old adage 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing'. Read Isaiah 66:2 and apply it before you start calling yourself a 'Christian'.

Yes this is where I have lived since about 1960, thanks be to Herbert W Armstrong, saved me from the worry of eternal torment, and made the Gospel an option between being and not being, mortal or immortal, in them with them and of them, (the Father, the Son and the Spirit). To be or not to be. With the likelihood all ultimately want to be in love/life and being.
Herbert Armstrong and his son Garner gripped me in the late 70s with their tv program it changed my view of the bible and how to use many resources for deeper study.

Yes, the breath of life (spirit) as in Job 32:8, gives us the capacity to be aware of ourselves and our identity. So, the spirit given to animals is not the same as the one given to humans, we are made after the image of our creator which separates us from the rest of creation.

I always wondered about the language diferences and the comparison of the Greek word for soul Psyche and the Hebrew word Nephesh and how different they might be!?! Psyche most likely refered to consciousness which is much different than the Hebrew word..

Hawwah comes from the root hayah, meaning life. In ancient times, people took names for their gods by common words in their language and sometimes even vice versa. We can see this in the Hebrew Bible as well such as the word for sun (shemesh), moon (yareach), tiamat (confusion, darkness), death (mot), etc. I could give very many examples. I have noticed something peculiar about the Name YHWH (יהוה) too. The name for Eve in Hebrew is (הוה). Just the difference of the letter yod. Then again, names were not really viewed in the same way as modern time, as it was more about the meaning behind a name (YHWH meaning “I AM that I AM” or the Self Existing One, the One *who lives* and gives life, etc). Eve was given her name because she would bring forth life as a mother so she was called the mother of all the *living*

I think Paul still affirms the Hebrew anthropology of nephesh at death, that man will lie in the dust asleep. Humans will only overcome death on God's condition during resurrection/judgement day. All nephesh rest in the grave until such time.
No version is perfect. But makes more sense to me for the church to try and use one version for public worship etc. Also given the history and continuity, I prefer the kjv.

Anyway the main problem is to consider the soul inmortal. That concept is not from the Bible but from Greek philosophy introduced into "christian" doctrine in the first centuries. The soul is simply the life, someone (or an animal) that is alive because it breathes. The soul passes from parents to their children. The is not spiritism on that.

lm not exactly sure what your saying here. That people and animals don't have an in dwelling soul? Jesus tells us to not fear man who can kill the body but to fear God who can kill the body and the soul. So we have an in dwelling soul. People and animals are the same as in they are both nephesh, so both have an in dwelling soul. The difference is people are made in the image of God. Animals do not have the knowledge of good and evil so there is no need for redemption. I believe there soul goes to the Farther, the soul has to go somewhere.

There are two creations in Genesis. So the Serpent was right after all? Yahweh Elohim in Gen 2 lied to Adam when he warned him he'll die if he eat the fruit, since he did not die. He went on to live to 930 years old. I don't believe Adam and Eve's soul was immortal like the angels. God put the Tree of Life into the garden. This gave their souls immortality. Without it, they would die at some time. Their body was a living soul because of their appearance. After they ate the apple, They saw themself as naked. They were looking at the same body as before so why did they look naked? In Revelations, we will get the Tree of Life back again to keep our bodies immortal and looking like the angel's body. We will be like Adam and Eve in the garden before eating the fruit. Our bodies will have a glowing white garment on them like we were angels. No washing, always clean, or won't wear out for eternity. Nice.
I have come to understand that Adam was an eternal being UNTIL he disobeyed God and he died THAT day. Meaning that which gave him eternal life, the Spirit of YHWH left him. (No more access to the tree of life). His soul which gives our human body function remains until that breathe departs on our physical death. That's why we must be born again to give our soul eternal life again. The soul without the power of the Fathers spirit is not eternal. This is the reason why Jesus didn't die for our sins. If so he would still be dead. That's the price due on Judgement day, eternal SOUL death. No one can pay that price for another. Only repentance wipes away our sins. As John the Baptist taught clearly. If repentance wipes away our sins then there's no need for anyone to die except our own carnal will. How the story got so complicated over the early first centuries has become more and more clear. Especially in the last 15 years. The Spirit is on the move worldwide.

I've been a "Born Again" Christian for nearly 50 years now. I've often been accussed of heretical leanings for pointing out how the Bible cannot be literal, my questioning of Moses even existing etc. I find it incredible how almost everything you raise in your videos is something i've questioned. I'm convinced that a deeply thoughtful approach to faith is one very valid path to God.
Have you any thoughts on how the story of Moses discovery in the ark of bullrushes mirrors that of Sargon The Great, found in an ark amongst the bullrushes 1500+ years earlier?
@johnfoster6412 you are not really a Christian are you. You are more interested in trying to prove Jesus wrong. Both Jesus and Paul believed in a literal Adam and a literal Moses. They based so much of their teaching on the literality of these texts.

Yes this is where I have lived since about 1960, thanks be to Herbert W Armstrong, saved me from the worry of eternal torment, and made the Gospel an option between being and not being, mortal or immortal, in them with them and of them, (the Father, the Son and the Spirit). To be or not to be. With the likelihood all ultimately want to be in love/life and being.
Herbert Armstrong and his son Garner gripped me in the late 70s with their tv program it changed my view of the bible and how to use many resources for deeper study.

Yes, the breath of life (spirit) as in Job 32:8, gives us the capacity to be aware of ourselves and our identity. So, the spirit given to animals is not the same as the one given to humans, we are made after the image of our creator which separates us from the rest of creation.

This new spirit guide us to righteousness, this is what is called being born again. The Almighty shares with us His nature by that new spirit He has created in us who believe.

I always wondered about the language diferences and the comparison of the Greek word for soul Psyche and the Hebrew word Nephesh and how different they might be!?! Psyche most likely refered to consciousness which is much different than the Hebrew word..
Psyche is a big word with a lot of history in Greek. It means....all dat wrapped into a single word. The language difference is huge.You gotta keep in mind that primitive "Biblical times" was going on the same time as, and after, classical antiquity. The time of Aristotle, Galen, Homer, Hippocrates.

@shayalynn here's another interesting one, I genesis 2:23. Isha doesn't mean "taken from man." Neither does gune. Or woman. However, Athena and Diana have an Etruscan epithet "virago" that does mean "taken from man." So, genesis 2:23 ACTUALLY makes perfect sense in the Latin Volgate, and none of the others.🤣

And regards to the Septuagint using the word zoe, that would make sense because it means life and it’s not really a proper noun. Hawwah comes from the root hayah, meaning life. In ancient times, people took names for their gods by common words in their language and sometimes even vice versa. We can see this in the Hebrew Bible as well such as the word for sun (shemesh), moon (yareach), tiamat (confusion, darkness), death (mot), etc. I could give very many examples.
I have noticed something peculiar about the Name YHWH (יהוה) too. The name for Eve in Hebrew is (הוה). Just the difference of the letter yod. Then again, names were not really viewed in the same way as modern time, as it was more about the meaning behind a name (YHWH meaning “I AM that I AM” or the Self Existing One, the One *who lives* and gives life, etc). Eve was given her name because she would bring forth life as a mother so she was called the mother of all the *living*

I think Paul still affirms the Hebrew anthropology of nephesh at death, that man will lie in the dust asleep. Humans will only overcome death on God's condition during resurrection/judgement day. All nephesh rest in the grave until such time.
No version is perfect. But makes more sense to me for the church to try and use one version for public worship etc. Also given the history and continuity, I prefer the kjv.

I haven’t found one verse in Genesis that suggests mankind has an immortal soul or an afterlife.

Anyway the main problem is to consider the soul inmortal. That concept is not from the Bible but from Greek philosophy introduced into "christian" doctrine in the first centuries. The soul is simply the life, someone (or an animal) that is alive because it breathes. The soul passes from parents to their children. The is not spiritism on that.

lm not exactly sure what your saying here. That people and animals don't have an in dwelling soul? Jesus tells us to not fear man who can kill the body but to fear God who can kill the body and the soul. So we have an in dwelling soul. People and animals are the same as in they are both nephesh, so both have an in dwelling soul. The difference is people are made in the image of God. Animals do not have the knowledge of good and evil so there is no need for redemption. I believe there soul goes to the Farther, the soul has to go somewhere.

There are two creations in Genesis. One in Genesis 1 where God makes man in his image and likeness and male and female and in Genesis 2 where an odd mist goes up from the ground and God makes man from the dust. As God has to be immortal, that is he never dies, and man is made in his image and likeness then man must have an immortal part to him which has to be his soul or energy or spirit. In the NT it says God is a Spirit and you worship him in spirit and truth. Due to the problem of entropy the arrow of time where everything physical eventually breaks down an degrades, God cannot be physical in the way we understand it. If he can appear physically he must have a different kind of body like the resurrection body that can disappear and reappear and change from the material into energy. Therefore, there has to be a type of soul. God definitely sheds his Holy Spirit which is a power or energy and is in the main invisible though no doubt he could make that visible if he so wished to, like the pillar of fire by night and glory cloud by day. So it is not solid matter or flesh. Why there are two creations in Genesis is not easily explained. Though the wisdom texts of the Dead Sea Scrolls, 4QInstruction pick up on these two creations, as do Philo in Opif and St. Paul in Corinthians and they all speak of an Heavenly and Earthly man. So the Serpent was right after all? Yahweh Elohim in Gen 2 lied to Adam when he warned him he'll die if he eat the fruit, since he did not die. He went on to live to 930 years old. And his eventual death had nothing to do with eating the fruit since he was created a mortal being, meaning he'll die at some point anyway.

I don't believe Adam and Eve's soul was immortal like the angels. God put the Tree of Life into the garden. This gave their souls immortality. Without it, they would die at some time. Their body was a living soul because of their appearance. After they ate the apple, They saw themself as naked. They were looking at the same body as before so why did they look naked? In Revelations, we will get the Tree of Life back again to keep our bodies immortal and looking like the angel's body. We will be like Adam and Eve in the garden before eating the fruit. Our bodies will have a glowing white garment on them like we were angels. No washing, always clean, or won't wear out for eternity. Nice.

I have come to understand that Adam was an eternal being UNTIL he disobeyed God and he died THAT day. Meaning that which gave him eternal life, the Spirit of YHWH left him. (No more access to the tree of life). His soul which gives our human body function remains until that breathe departs on our physical death. That's why we must be born again to give our soul eternal life again. The soul without the power of the Fathers spirit is not eternal. This is the reason why Jesus didn't die for our sins. If so he would still be dead. That's the price due on Judgement day, eternal SOUL death. No one can pay that price for another. Only repentance wipes away our sins. As John the Baptist taught clearly. If repentance wipes away our sins then there's no need for anyone to die except our own carnal will. How the story got so complicated over the early first centuries has become more and more clear. Especially in the last 15 years. The Spirit is on the move worldwide.

@@neclark08 as I said the condition was yhe obedience of faith, the choice to obey by eating from the tree of life, or eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He could not do both.
So I agree as his immortality was not for always, as OSAS is conditional on the obedience of faith.
