dont leave the seals in the sealed bearing . by doing this you stop lubrication on the back edge of the drive side bearing seal and it then fails and sucks oil in from gear box . i also thought it was a good idea years ago but soon found it was a mistake ..... nice work .

Nothing to clever, I just had to strip the whole lot down (again) clean off the sealer then build the whole thing back up again only this time making sure to get a good bead of sealer around all the studs. On the packer plate I hadn't gone all the way round the studs on one side.
