    Think about it...thirty years from now, hacking Apple devices will be dominated by hacking an iPhone 7 just to add the headphone jack back in.

    Some nitpicks:
    That particular mouse came out either in September 1986 (with the Apple IIGS) or in 1987 with the Macintosh II and SE. I say either, because I don't know for sure if the IIgs shipped with the mouse from the very start or not, but the 1987 Macintosh models definitely did. I would venture to guess that it did in fact come out with the IIgs in 1986. Not 1985.
    The four diodes you salvaged were not visible light LEDs, but actually 4 infrared LEDs, and 4 infrared receivers for the tracking function.
    Also, while all wireless mice are sometimes colloquially referred to as Bluetooth mice, a mouse that comes with a dongle, or USB receiver, is almost never a Bluetooth mouse. In addition, Bluetooth mice are generally far more expensive than the non-Bluetooth kind.
    Sorry to be so nitpicky. I grew up with that particular mouse :-)
    Unlike those who criticize you for modifying it, I'm gratified that you have extended its usefulness.

    You can't cut a board, they are made in layers of copper wires embedded in the plastic. So if you are cutting one, be weary that you might damage your board.

  • @ozonesama

    At 1:10 , what you're calling white LEDs are actually photodiodes, ie. the receiving ends of the optical forks made by each pair of 1 red LED facing 1 photodiode. Between them, the movements of the ball of the mouse will rotate discs with radial slits, and that's how the electronic chip on the mouse is able to determine the movements of the mouse along each axis (2 pairs per axis are needed to determine how many times the light beam was interrupted and in which direction the disc is rotating).

Go police that video, too! Go! The webbernets need you and your observation of how old someone might be! Why are you wasting your time?! Fuck! Go! Jesus christ! There are people who may be 12 who need to be told that they're 12 and people who are 30 who need to be told that, too! You are wrong about a lot of things in this video:
    1.those things you salvaged are not white and red diodes-they are IR diodes and IR recievers.They are used for tracking the ball movement.
    2.The mouse is not bluetooth. It just uses 2.4GHz, that does not mean bluetooth.
    3.The thing you call laser is actually the optical sensor. Laser and optical mice are completely different.
    And why waste a mouse to stick it in this garbage?

      I don't think destroying a mouse is a reasonable hobby... I also do DIY electronics projects, but I try not to destroy anything that works and is usefull. Also, that mouse is from Apple-the shittiest and most expensive(for no reason) brand, but it seems people like paying more for the same or less(M&Ms, Oreo, Nutella, Rolex and all the other rip-off's). There are brands that just rebrand a chinese product and sell it for more, a lot more. I am sick of people not seeing this trend and continuing to feed companies. Got a little carried away, sorry. :D

    • @Maxsfable
      @Maxsfable 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the feel of rant, so I understand, but as for the hobby part, that's your personal preference. While you may not want to "Destroy" (I use the word disassemble, since he's putting the parts to use in some way and not outright wasting it) this kind of stuff, some find the fun in breaking stuff down and doing something unique with all the pieces, like making a wireless 1980's mouse. Not too practical, but I can see the fun in it.

      this is the dumbass thing I've ever heard why would I want to use up the one USB port on my laptop for a mouse when I can just use the internal Bluetooth receiver also as a manufacturer wouldn't it save me $ not having to make those dongles

    • @CookingWithCows
      @CookingWithCows 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not every computer has an internal bluetooth receiver. I'm sure my desktop doesn't. My laptop however does, but not my older laptop, but pretty much every computer has 1 or more USB slots, and if they're used, there's usb hubs.

    • @zaqway
      @zaqway 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wireless mice were introduced on the market, because technology Bluetooth was not yet popular and barely anyone had BT adapters build into their computer. BT dongles were still too expensive for average consumer. That's why manufacturers started making their own wireless dongles. They were not as flexible as BT, but cost a fraction of the price, were but good enough for the use and worked out of the box for virtually any computer.
      Since it's easier and cheaper for manufacturers to keep using the same technology, instead of trying to promote Bluetooth, those "2.4GHz wireless" mice are still far cheaper than BT-enabled models. Most people don't care about one used up USB port, so they will choose a cheaper model.
      That said, I agree it is better to use a Bluetooth mouse, if you have BT built into your computer. That's why I bought a $50 Bluetooth mouse, instead of a $2 "wireless" one.

    That's impressive, but not something I'd undertake. The Bluetooth mouse has two mouse buttons and a scrollwheel while the old Apple mouse has one mouse button and nothing else.

    At first I thought he was going to get rid of the cable and solder on some sort of Bluetooth receiver but I'm not exactly sure if that's possible. I'm guessing in the end it was easier to just replace the whole circuit board.

  • @voltare2amstereo
    @voltare2amstereo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    it's NOT A LASER - thats the camera - the LED lights the surface through the plastic lense - and the camera detects changes under it as the mouse moves - you can change the red led for a blue or even IR led

    • @prajnepal
      @prajnepal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's lazy and kipkay isn't about that. He showed how to get the classic feeling with the new technology. He is all about hacking and modifying tech, which he has been doing for years and years. But you can definitely always use the original bluetooth mouse or buy a brand new. But remember, something that you made will be a lot precious than the factory built.

      It would ruin the look, though. I was thinking during the video, adding a small button to the right side would be cool. Could be done in an old school way so it looked like it was modded back in the 80's.
