      We fitted a set of deflectors and we can crack the front windows in the rain. I didn’t explain myself well in that clip. I knock the condensation on the head with the aircon and then we crack the front if it gets too hot 👍

    Thank you for sharing your lovely travels with us. I would be interested to know what you have for breakfast, and also what you have for lunch on a day-to-day basis. Are you shopping every day for sandwiches for example? The fish that you cooked I am presuming was in a frying pan. It is a great set up that you have there, we went to Sussex Campervans to look at the van that you have. I think that we probably would’ve got it except that my partner is 6 foot four! We ended up with a VW in the end but it has quite basic cooking facilities, so I am interested in preparing meals easily and basically. Our cooker is just a portable gas stove.
    It is a shame that you have had so much rain on your travels, when we went to Ireland about eight years ago it rained the whole two weeks! I think Ireland and also West Wales are renowned for it, lovely weather if you are a duck! 🚘 keep on trucking! ❤️

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tina
      6’4” you made the right choice in going one size bigger than us. 👍
      Food in the campervan
      A lot of people seem interested in what we eat on the road so we will have to start covering that more in the videos.
      The real limiting factor in a campervan in our case is space to store supplies. We now use our biggest cupboard under the bed and the fridge and freezer box as our food store.
      In the freezer box we like to start out with a bag of frozen diced mixed veg and a large bag of frozen fried onions we cook at home in advance. These ingredients can be combined with so many other things and the mixed veg is an easy way to get vegetables into wraps, omelettes etc. If you just cook them without any water they come out really nice. The cooked onions freeze really well and taste delicious when used in any meal.
      Once those ingredients are exhausted we then start using that space for frozen fish, burgers etc.
      Because of Covid we currently shop every 2 to 3 days and make sure we know what we want and are in and out asap.
      We like fry ups in the morning, home made wraps or tinned soup with mixed beans for lunch and curries, pies, fresh veg, pasta etc for our evening meal or takeaways. If Covid was not here we would be using restaurants and coffee shops but we are giving them a miss at the moment.
      We had never really consumed much tinned food as we cook fresh meals at home but in the van a selection of tinned foods come in really handy and its good to have sufficient supplies to allow you to stay in a remote spot. Most tinned food is pretty drab straight out of the can but add your own seasoning and suddenly they can be quite tasty. Keeping things simple helps conserve precious water when wild camping so if we have a curry night that would be a tin of bombay potatoes, a tin of curry and a packet of microwave rice all heated up together in one pan. It may not look that pretty but its easy to make it taste nice with some seasoning, butter etc.
      We don’t recommend frying anything that spits or smokes a lot in the van. If you see the episode where I cook steaks for the first time you will see why. Much better to cook those items outside the van on a small camping stove which is what we will be doing.
      We certainly recommend an Xtra Large Ridge Monkey for cooking all sorts of things. Look them up on youtube. Xtra large is a laugh because its still quite small but it gets used a lot and that is how we cook the breaded fish. If you want things to come out crispy lift the top lid and just close it briefly so you can flip the food. The Ridge Monkey can cook pies, pastries, frozen chips, bacon etc its very versatile. Just be careful flipping it if anything is runny.
      If you are able to wipe the dirty pans asap with some kitchen roll. Get a small spray bottle like they have in a travel set and fill it with water and washing up liquid. A quick spray of that will help the towel to clean the pan. When we wash up we heat some water so its very hot and keep the pan on a low heat to keep the water hot. Then put a tiny bit of washing up liquid onto the scourer sponge and wash the dishes allowing excess water to drain down the sink. This is really economical on water and works really well.

    Fabulous video as always. I don't know how you do it and keep the quality so high. Commentary, drone footage, advice, editing, frequency of uploads - it's all brilliant THANK YOU. I don't know what your thoughts on the markers around the Wild Atlantic Way are (the zig zag posts at all the viewing points) but as someone that has just retired from a 42 year career in the paint industry, rust simply gives me the shudders. It seems to have gained status among sculptors the world over (The Angel of the North in my opinion is the most beautiful yet hideous sculpture ever). So sorry you are having bad weather as Donegal is one of the most spectacular places in good weather. Best of luck on the rest of the tour. PS I agree, gut feel is always worth heeding.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The more films I make the more I learn about what works and what fails. As long as you shoot sufficient good quality clips you can always fashion a cohesive story. There is a reason why I prefer narration over straight to camera and that is because I can choose what I say later. Whatever you say live is hard baked so it has to be right. I also want the viewer to see what I see and not just us. As for those signs they do stick out a bit. Nowhere near as bad as some of the huge anti covid signs we have seen spoiling some beautiful views. If they forced the tv channels to repeat an add with the latest covid advice and just forget about the signs they could have saved a fortune. I always trust my gut feeling and it’s never let me down yet 👍

    Gut feeling - my (Irish) wife ran down the very grand staircase and out the door (in full on Cinderella mode) of a hotel in Provence over twenty years ago. We asked the manager to show us a room. The price he asked was more than we were prepared to pay so she asked if he had anything cheaper. The manager kept dropping the price and when he got to less than a half of the initial price she ran away. To this day she insists that he was wearing a gun holster beneath his jacket, and that we would not have survived the night had we stayed.

    We are considering a pop top for our nv200 camper when it is raining and the sides get wet do you need to dry off before lowering

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its often not going to be possible to make sure it’s dry before lowering the roof so we just bring it down wet if we need to. The canvas sits in a gap between the edge of the roof and the inside raised edge. You just have to make sure you raise it when the sun shines and let everything dry off. The same applies to any condensation that may form behind the curtains. We usually dry that off with a microfibre cloth each morning. If you pop the roof and doors when the sun is out it all drys very quickly. If humidity levels get high in the van run the engine and aircon as that really pulls the moisture out of the van. No need to be cold as aircon works with the heater just fine. If you don’t air a van regularly then mould can form and then that’s a harder problem to solve.
