Alberta says parental consent needed for students to change their name, pronouns

  • Alberta will be requiring schools to notify and gather parental consent if their child changes their names and pronouns in school.
    In a social media post on Wednesday afternoon, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said the government will be requiring parental notification and consent if a child 15 years or younger changes their name and pronouns at school.
    Parents of children aged 16 and 17 will not need to consent to the name and pronouns changes but will need to be notified, Smith said.
    Parents will also need to be notified and be given the choice to opt-out classroom discussions and instruction on gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality. All third-party materials regarding these subjects must be pre-approved by the Ministry of Education, she added.

    Its not transphobic, its ensuring kids cant make decisions they wont be able to take back.
    2 yrs ago my daughter was adamant she was a they. I supported her feeling that way, however i had very real conversationscwith her. Now shes 2 yrs older and shes very comfortable being a girl. I personally know 2 little girls she grew up with that changed their names to masculine names and cut their hair and changed their clothes...
    Again, now both of them have went back to their original names and are identifying as girls again.
    Kids change their mind, any parent knows this. Do not allow KIDS to make choices that will affect the rest of their lives.
    When they are old enough to make that decision, if its what they want, fine go ahead, but stop calling us transphobic for that.
    For wanting our kids to enjoy being kids... it hurts my brain that this is at all controversial.

    Of those, 303 involved teens 17 and younger. The youngest age was 14.
    The numbers tell only part of the story. The CIHI data exclude Quebec hospitals as well as surgeries performed in private clinics like the McLean Clinic in Mississauga, which describes its surgeons as “industry pioneers” for top surgery - mastectomies and breast reductions in those assigned female at birth, and breast augmentation for those born male transitioning to female.
    One specialist in transgender health issues said that, when applying for OHIP funding for people seeking top surgery, “50 to 70 per cent will go to McLean.”

      Teachers are rarely ever malicious enough to indoctrinate youth into changing their sexual identity. Attempted sexual misconduct, pushing agendas, etc. are certainly issues in our education system, but chances are that if a child chooses to change their gender from what was assigned at birth, that change will have arrived internally; not because “being gay is the latest fad.”
      Legislation would not have permitted educators to withhold information about children’s sexuality if said children were guaranteed safety in their respective households. Domestic abuse resulting from gender issues are prevalent throughout all societies so with that in mind, I think that it is reasonable for schools to not inform parents of pronoun changes and the like; especially when unveiling that info could lead to endangerment and abandonment of children who identify in a certain way.

    • @sarafletch
      @sarafletch 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@swissidol8403 that is so beyond incorrect and misleading. Of course children are influenced by what they think is cool, are you kidding? I used to watch movies as a child and whatever I would watch I would want to be after, if it was about a ninja? I wanted to be that. A dancer? Wanted to be that. A dude who skateboards? I wanted to be that. I am a tomboy and used to cry myself to sleep every night because I wasn’t a real boy. Took me until 25 years old to learn how to love myself the body I was in. These are children, all they do is copy and watch. Which is why so many children fantasize about being different things constantly especially from movies and tv shows they are flowing into their brains. One day to the next. Why do so many children want to be dinosaurs and unicorns? Both things don’t even exist. Just like changing your gender doesn’t. This is why children can’t make life altering decisions that will effect them for the rest of their life such as Smoke or get tattoos for the rest of their lives.
      Teachers should be teaching children about how to love themselves and educate them on life tasks. THAT IS ALL. They should not be expected to hide things from parents and teach children about gender ideology that is not in their lane, nor in anyone’s aside from the parents.

    • @sarafletch
      @sarafletch 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lisahardy9707 It was obviously my choice. This whole debate isn’t about teachers telling parents about their gay children? Why would a child know what sexuality they are when they haven’t hit puberty? Weird thoughts you have relating children and sexual orientation. It’s not the teachers business. In regards to pronouns a teacher telling parents their child is changing their pronouns is a separate issue. That’s a deep rooted mental health issue that parents NEED to address early as gender doesn’t change, just like race doesn’t. We can change the outside and have people perceive as this new ideology but that doesn’t make it fact or true. A trans woman can never have children or bleed monthly for example... sad I even have to explain this.
      This is purely about parents needing to sign off on life altering horrifying surgeries on children. I would never walk into school and demand people call me mike and change my pronouns as a child because then of course my teachers would tell my parents, I would want them too cause clearly something is off inside. That used to be a mental health disorder when you pretended to be something you aren’t and of course I wouldn’t flaunt that unless I wanted unwanted attention for it? I did go through a phase of cutting my hair short at 7 years old and telling my friends to call me mike though. See the difference? The children should leave the teachers out of it unless they want their parents involved. Very simple. I’m a healthy functioning adult now to who’s just a masculine lesbian. Like most children who are confused about their genders turn into. LEAVE THEM ALONE. You’ve been fed a lie about the trans movement and most people on support of it actually no very little about what’s happening.
      Do you know what hormone blockers actually are? I will guarantee that you don’t, or the damage it does to a child’s body long term. The people with the loudest voices have the least information, that’s the worst part.

      Taking chemotherapy drugs to block my natural bodies response for a healthy development. Which then would have meant I would have needed a full hysterectomy in my early 20’s so my body wouldn’t start attacking itself from the inside out. I would also experience severe bone issues from the chemotherapy drugs which then will stop me from having a healthy and normal adulthood and I will be stuck on multiple big pharma medications for the rest of my life. All of these things in turn will then shorten my life drastically.
      Are you aware of anything I said above? Because I’m noticing the people with the strongest opinions don’t actually have any accurate information about what’s happening to these children who are more then likely going through a phase. As children do. I wanted to be a ninja, an angel, an alien… see the theme? Gender is no different. Which is why children should be adults before making adult life altering decision. Do you know when most kids know that they’re trans? Age 5. Most will tell you that that notion was quashed very quickly, and they were socialized to repress it. Some are consciously aware of repressing it, some aren’t. Then, as they approach puberty, those feeling rise again. Again, they are either quashed or hidden, or acknowledged. The suppression of their identity is what leads to the dysphoria. Research has shown that the earlier a child is allowed to express their gender socially, the fewer issues they have as they get older. The rates of depression, suicide, etc all go down dramatically. Allowing gender expression has been shown to have no negative effects. So why on earth would you try to suppress someone’s natural expression of their identity.

It’s a postmodern viewpoint often seemingly driven by confusion, narcissism and/or resentment that betrays an assumption of power dynamics and is all masked in a veneer of compassion. It entails illiberal extreme leftist identity politics centred around the desire to change or even revolutionize the “system” to achieve equality of outcome through continually increasing biases in favour of under-represented groups, arbitrarily defined. It is radically progressive assuming existing systems and traditions are all bad, rejects truth in favour of platitudes, includes cancel culture, and sometimes recommends radical change, ignoring complex systems and the idea of unintended consequences.

      @gemcami7243 children are not property no. Children are the responsibility of their parents. It is the parent's responsibility to care and nurture their child, the parent clothes and feeds them. There is a reason why a 6 year old can't go into a liquor store and buy some vodka. There is a reason a child can't get a tattoo or buy a gun. Because children's ability to make significant life altering decisions can not be trusted. Even when a minor commits a crime, they are observed by a different set of rules. They have not developed their brain to that point where they fully comprehend the gravity of their decision. They are the responsibility of the parent. Now, an adult child living with their parents is already an adult and should be mentally developed to make decisions that will impact their future.

      I am glad to hear the word "responsible" in your comment. Children have rights, parents have responsibilities. I learned from my lawyer that a parent cannot give away the rights of the child.
      As a medical professional, I will offer what I know to be factual information for those who are interested in this chat.
      Hormonal therapy merely puts a pause on puberty. It is totally reversible. It allows the child to sort out their complicated feelings before allowing/not allowing puberty to occur. They are ineffective to administer after puberty, ie after 18.
      Children and their parents who seek treatment will be denied from doing so. So, some children's rights will be taken away.
      If you choose not to access treatment for your child that is your decision, however that shouldn't mean that some who want it should be prevented from doing so.
      Currently, gender reassignment surgery is not offered to youth under the age of 18. It does NOT happen NOW.
      Medical treatment is NOT generally offered to minors without parental consent NOW for any purpose. There may be rare exceptions for "mature" or "emancipated" children.
      Many decades ago, the reason for introducing sex ed in schools was due to the rising rate of teenage pregnancy. If this topic is not taught is schools, with the curriculum that is always approved by the Dept of Education, then children will learn it from their friends and on the internet. Over time, we have learned that they will not receive factual information.
      I am not a weirdo as another person called me, but I am concerned about children. If you believe in freedom, then offer those children who are struggling the freedom to make their own decisions with their parents, their Dr. and the psychologist (as happens now).
      Furthermore, if a parent is concerned about what is happening in schools, I would encourage talking to the child's teacher or principal. They are more than willing to communicate what is being taught and how they present the information.
