Zero issue playing the PC version at 4k. I didn't bother with the complicated audio fixes install. Even without it, the ambient sound and music were excellent. This game is a masterpiece, worth playing even today.

About the shadows looking sharper on PC, that's because they're set at a high resolution, by default the Steam006 patch sets them to a 1024 resolution, if you want the shadows to look softer you should lower the resolution to a value of 256 or 512. Same goes for the Depth of Field effect, the DOF becomes less pronounced if set at a high resolution, a value of 128/256 on Steam006 fix's configuration file should do the trick to approximate it to how it was on PS2.
Pro tip: If you wait for 10 minutes, the in game settings menu on the PC will load, despite it looking frozen lol, but it's not worth it at all. Thank you for this video, I gotta relive this game on PCSX2 with that HD patch ❤
Not necessarily 10 minutes. There's entire forum topics on the Internet about that issue. It's something to do with the game checking all of your monitor settings or something? So if your monitor has a crazy number of possibilities then it can take a long time. I still play the PC version of SH3 to this day. Played it this week even. Great vid. I managed to get the PC version running on my MacBook using Wine. The only issue is a known bug where the menu constantly scrolls up. Does anyone know how to fix it please?
never use anisotropic filtering in SH games on PCSX2. It breaks seams and transparency especially trees in sh2. There's a lighting bug or maybe intentional adjustment to make it seem upgraded with the PC version of SH3 especially in the intro everything too bright. The driving to silent hill scene is als oaffected the glass in the car is blue and the car and the interior are lit up incorrectly. They actually fixed both of them in the HDC version. I usually do 448 res for shadows & DoF on PC it looks pretty close that way and the shadows are even softer like the enahced edition SH2 but hat introduces stair stepping to DoF sadly.
I never expected Konami to have the same problem as Rockstar when porting their old games on newer consoles by hiring developers that only make mobile games
im not sure why the pc version worked like that to you :S the in game menu had no problems with my copy, and the framerate was not unstable also pcsx2 (i used to be a dev) dos not need the a patched version of the game, you can activate the widescreen within the emulator and there is no problem at all with the visuals (those are generated by the widescreen patch ON the ISO, not by the emulator video output or the fov), a long time ago i did some shader tests at 4k with this game on the emulator and the widescreen hack ON it looks great , the only thing to take in count with silent hill 3 on pcsx 2 is that the fmv look terrible nowadays, and the game will be locked at 30fps (unlocking the cap will result in what you mention with the bugs section, or inconsistent speed which makes heather go super fast in some areas) Now if no hd pack is used... then there is no much difference with the pc version except for the fps which is better on pc i DO NOT recomend the hd collection (for none of the games, 2 and 3 look terrible on this collection) The best version to play the game with the audio fix and the widescreen hack is the pc version because of the 60fps (unless you want the hd pack, which is not that necesary as at 4k the vanilla version still looks amazing) BUT the ps2 version has one advantage on pcsx2 (using the vanilla version) , asides from savestates.... you can actually go up to a 6k resolution.
IIRC the reason why the framerate on the PC port fluctuates so much is because of how it handles the framerate, the game caps at 60fps but if you drop down fps it limits it to 30
That's how double buffered VSYNC works, but there should be no reason for the FPS to drop at all on anything newer than over a decade old hardware. I'm no expert, but sometimes it's the fault of the engine itself, so it gets bogged down when there's too much information to process.
with the pc version the fps drops are caused by the lens flare quality being too high. if you lower that it will perform properly. honestly i saw no difference between low medium or high but whatever you do dont set it to high as it kills fps
I had some graphical bugs in the subway section, not quite sure why or how that happend. But it played fine aside from that for me for about 3 hours now.
I just finished sh3 on pcsx2 and I really wouldn’t recommend it, with the 60fps and widescreen patch the cutscenes get slowed down a lot when there’s 2 characters in them and this happens in gameplay too, specifically in Brookhaven hospital. Fmvs also don’t work but there is an easy fix for that
Active preservation of video game source code really only became a prominent thing starting around 2005, especially when it came to Japanese developers. Believe it or not, many companies, both Eastern and Western, often used to require employees to destroy the source code for fear of it leaking out. In the PS2 era, once the game was finished it was just assumed the source code wouldn't be needed anymore. Thankfully everyone has learned from that time, but it's a shame it took so long.
It happens all the time, not thinking about the future preservation at all, just like when the BBC reused tapes so a lot of vintage Dr. Who episodes are lost.
man Google is really spying hard on me I was just playing Silent Hill 2 HDC other day lol. I got to Woods use Apartments and something felt off that I can't explain. The input lag was terrible but not sure that had anything to do with game itself but not had that issue with any other game. Everything looked too clean and must felt off. I stopped and played it on my actual ps2 with OPL, lower res but still better than that shite.
The settings suggested for PCSX2 work great, but I keep getting this ghosting effect on light sources. I've tried a few suggested fixes I found online, but none seem to help.
Shattered Memories seems to be a tough one. Avalanche Reviews made a big video about all the game versions and showed the PS 2 version is missing some objects in the environment, but it's much more stable so I went with that. Wii Version could work too, depending on the emulator. I guess... Avalanche did only compare the versions on native hardware.
but the pc version of sh3 with reshade can already place a false ray traicing and fov, not to mention other fixes and corrections and it looks much better than the pcsx2
im trying to play Silent Hill 4 on pc. i got the GOG version and have had a lot of problems with different mods and the game just generally being hard to work with. a guide or just some help in general would be appreciated
On pc you can add reshade and have a way better visual quality then any version with the right tweaking... also with one of the sharpen options from reshade it is gonna look almost like the HD version. An then, most important of all, you have a third person camera mod wich makes it the best version of the game (I never was a fan of the camera in silent hill games)

The PS2 version has visual effects the PC version doesn't, and the whole lighting / shadow system is superior apart from the flashlight. Also missing costumes in PC version. I use PCSX2 with Reshade and it's incredible.
Sadly the pc Version has not been given the Enhanced Editon treatment SH 2 got. But the 60 fps gameplay alone makes the game on pc superioir for sure. Escially coming from said SH 2 EE. It plays great.
I appreciate you don't recommend HD Collection, I bought it recently for my PS3 on second hand and the disappointment was so hard, never going to touch it again and will stick to PS2/PC versions. Heck, even a 2010 PC/Laptop can run SH2/SH3 with no problem and at a decent resolution.
I've never been a fan of widescreen hacks of native 4:3 games, even when they work properly. To me it too much changes the viewing experience, showing things the developers didn't intend for you to see, and also the playing experience.
I never really understood the appeal of 60 FPS on games that aren't fast paced anyway. I'm sticking with the PS2 version, or PCSX2 I guess, unless a PC enhanced edition in the future can beat it out.

Missing costumes, worse quality Depth of Field, worse quality sound even with patches applied, missing light sources in Subway levels, missing self-shadows - that's the PC experience right there. Much like many PS2 to PC ports back in the day. Look up DMC3 Sourcenext port, RE4 Sourcenext port, San Andreas original PC port, Chaos Legion PC port and see what I mean. Pixel shaders were incredibly limited compared to what PS2 could achieve with its unique architecture and eDRAM.
Silent Hill really needs a Master Collection like the one that Metal Gear Solid got
Nice video
The final boss is near impossible on the harder difficulties on the ps2 version which made me replay the entire game again on the pc version because theres an exploit exclusive to that version. So yea pc version for the win
Played it on pcsx2 with widescreen and 60fps hack, had no issues, didnt even know I could get any lol
Great vid. I managed to get the PC version running on my MacBook using Wine. The only issue is a known bug where the menu constantly scrolls up. Does anyone know how to fix it please?
Damn its been 21 years since this game came out.
never use anisotropic filtering in SH games on PCSX2.
I never expected Konami to have the same problem as Rockstar when porting their old games on newer consoles by hiring developers that only make mobile games
im not sure why the pc version worked like that to you :S
the in game menu had no problems with my copy, and the framerate was not unstable
also pcsx2 (i used to be a dev) dos not need the a patched version of the game, you can activate the widescreen within the emulator and there is no problem at all with the visuals (those are generated by the widescreen patch ON the ISO, not by the emulator video output or the fov), a long time ago i did some shader tests at 4k with this game on the emulator and the widescreen hack ON it looks great , the only thing to take in count with silent hill 3 on pcsx 2 is that the fmv look terrible nowadays, and the game will be locked at 30fps (unlocking the cap will result in what you mention with the bugs section, or inconsistent speed which makes heather go super fast in some areas)
Now if no hd pack is used... then there is no much difference with the pc version except for the fps which is better on pc
i DO NOT recomend the hd collection (for none of the games, 2 and 3 look terrible on this collection)
The best version to play the game with the audio fix and the widescreen hack is the pc version because of the 60fps (unless you want the hd pack, which is not that necesary as at 4k the vanilla version still looks amazing)
BUT the ps2 version has one advantage on pcsx2 (using the vanilla version) , asides from savestates....
you can actually go up to a 6k resolution.
seeing that it's bread in higher res makes my day 😂
Still waiting for GOG to put it there X_X
Considering SH 4 is there it's just strange 2 and 3 are missing, I agree.
Making custom shirts for Heather in PCSX2 is easy and fun.
Recently, i played it on pcsx2 with the texture pack. Will you be making SH 4 Comparison?
Yes!
great video
IIRC the reason why the framerate on the PC port fluctuates so much is because of how it handles the framerate, the game caps at 60fps but if you drop down fps it limits it to 30
That's how double buffered VSYNC works, but there should be no reason for the FPS to drop at all on anything newer than over a decade old hardware. I'm no expert, but sometimes it's the fault of the engine itself, so it gets bogged down when there's too much information to process.
with the pc version the fps drops are caused by the lens flare quality being too high. if you lower that it will perform properly. honestly i saw no difference between low medium or high but whatever you do dont set it to high as it kills fps
the patch fixes the fps drops issue without degrading lens flare
Patch on the pcgamingwiki is a drag and drop install. It's a no brainer.
Nice Old day's
I personally prefer the PC version as with Xinput plus the controller and vibration everything works and the patch resolves fps fluctuate issues.
I had some graphical bugs in the subway section, not quite sure why or how that happend. But it played fine aside from that for me for about 3 hours now.
@@bazzy5644 its on your end, not a common issue
My favorite silent hill
Can you do with Fatal Frame Trilogy? pls
I just finished sh3 on pcsx2 and I really wouldn’t recommend it, with the 60fps and widescreen patch the cutscenes get slowed down a lot when there’s 2 characters in them and this happens in gameplay too, specifically in Brookhaven hospital. Fmvs also don’t work but there is an easy fix for that
How do you loose the code to your own game, my god the level of incompetence from Konami.
Square Enix lost the code for Final Fantasy 8 and 10 to my knowledge. Japanese corps are weird.
Volition lost the source code for SR1 and SR2. It's why the PC version is unplayable evens with mods.
It happens all the time, not thinking about the future preservation at all, just like when the BBC reused tapes so a lot of vintage Dr. Who episodes are lost.
I'm having troubles extracting the PC fix mod from Steam006, there's an error code that pops up, does anyone have any suggestions
do it with 7zip or winrar, the zip file has a password and the windows explorer cant deal with passworded zip files so it gives an error
Whats the song at 3:52? Great video btw!!!
Thanks! The song is Breeze - In Monochrome Night from the SH3 soundtrack: th-cam.com/video/MF4LnJZTyOQ/w-d-xo.html
man Google is really spying hard on me I was just playing Silent Hill 2 HDC other day lol.
Which one should i play pc or pcsx2 version?
The settings suggested for PCSX2 work great, but I keep getting this ghosting effect on light sources.
I've tried a few suggested fixes I found online, but none seem to help.
Please make a video of how to play the other Silent Hill games, 1, 4, Origins, Shattered Memories.
1 on duckstation
4 on pc
Origins on PCSX2
Shattered Memories seems to be a tough one. Avalanche Reviews made a big video about all the game versions and showed the PS 2 version is missing some objects in the environment, but it's much more stable so I went with that. Wii Version could work too, depending on the emulator. I guess... Avalanche did only compare the versions on native hardware.
I got it for PC with a new for the time graphics card.
You're pretty good
look good for over 20 years old game
Ironic it's had graphics than some games today
Brother, where can i get the widescreen and 60 fps patches for pcsx2?
but the pc version of sh3 with reshade can already place a false ray traicing and fov, not to mention other fixes and corrections and it looks much better than the pcsx2
im trying to play Silent Hill 4 on pc. i got the GOG version and have had a lot of problems with different mods and the game just generally being hard to work with. a guide or just some help in general would be appreciated
what do you mean duelsense worked right out of the box on the pc release, no it doesnt?
Best way to play SH4 plsss
On pc you can add reshade and have a way better visual quality then any version with the right tweaking... also with one of the sharpen options from reshade it is gonna look almost like the HD version. An then, most important of all, you have a third person camera mod wich makes it the best version of the game (I never was a fan of the camera in silent hill games)
Actually the ps2 vr had better fogs and some stuff removed from the pc same as sh4 they removed some ghosts from the screen
4:21 her hair looks worse on pc
Not noticeably, I think it’s kind of ridiculous that people nitpick things like this
@@ihavenoname2982 yeah i dont really mind, was just trying hard to notice something haha, it is like ps5 vs ps5 pro lmao
@@agamazofficial Yeah that’s fair, I do wish they’d just make a collection of all the games like they did with metal gear solid. Hopefully it won’t look too bad on new consoles.

@@ihavenoname2982 I'm very afraid they will just use the dreadful HD collection again and slap it on steam charging 60 or even 70 for it. I hope I'm wrong given their recent Suikoden Remaster announcments there could be hope for it.
There's one file containing a virus on the PC fix, it's Silent_Hill_3_PC_Fix.dll. The author says it's a false positive, but the file got a really bad score on virustotal, so I doubt it's a false positive (24 ou of 67).
How exactly do I get this on pc? Steam? I didn't see any links in description.
myabandonware
1 has no pc port. 2 and 3 are on myabandonware. An archival site preserving games not sold anymore. Next head to the pcgamingwiki and grab the mod which fixes the game and adds widescreen. It's the best running version with 60 fps. Though it is finnicky. For me it needed admin rights to be able to write my save file on disc. On the plus side there is no install requirred, so you could move the whole thing to a laptop or steamdeck and play it there too.
Ps2 best version🔥
I set up pcsx 2 but i cant find the silent hill 3 rom
does the PC version of this from myabandonware have viruses of any kind? I don't have virus protection on my computer lol!
"PCSX2 Silent Hill 3 HD Texture Pack by IceBullet" stop peddling the lie , it's an AI upscale mess as they even admitted they do NOT edit any the textures themselves
Ah! That explains why the video I was watching with that looked very buggy. So it's shit, thanks for the info!

I'm a fan of enhanced versions of older games rather than going back to the complete originals. So the PC version with mods is my preferred way
The PS2 version has visual effects the PC version doesn't, and the whole lighting / shadow system is superior apart from the flashlight.
Guys I downloaded the game in steam deck but when I walk in a along is very dumb, I need good setting without walking what I choose type A or type B

SH the room please
Silent Hill 4 pls
I never really understood the appeal of 60 FPS on games that aren't fast paced anyway. I'm sticking with the PS2 version, or PCSX2 I guess, unless a PC enhanced edition in the future can beat it out.
The appeal is the game reacting the moment you press a button! How hard of a concept can input lag be?
@@bazzy5644 If the game has little to no focus on the combat, on reaction timings, then I don't see why people should care; so much, anyway.

awesome mod bro
Seems like the best way to play it is on a PS2 console!!😊
