- The Volvo S70 was volvos attempt at evolving from the 850 series which made its debut in the early 1990's. Volvo provided a wide range of engines with varying performance levels. The base engine was an inline 5 cylinder non turbo. The GLT was a light pressure 20 valve variation & the T5 was the same but with a high pressure turbo. And of course there was the high tuned performance R model.

Sorry about the low volume every one. I've got another review on the 1998 S70 GLT coming up. Will fix the low mic volume issues with that one
I had a 99 base model 5 speed. Picked it up for 1200 with 170k odo and drove it for 4 years. Absolutely incredible, dependable vehicle. Manual volvos are a rare find in the US so I was super lucky to find one for such a deal!
Extremely hard to find I agree. And when you do they are picked up fast. I think people are starting to realize how good these cars were/are. Thanks for commenting 🙂
@@carsandallaboutcars2939 I loved the little quirky problems it had, like the entire ignition just doing a 360 😂 I had to show a valet driver how to jiggle the steering wheel and the key to get it to catch
Unfortunately this beautiful example got totaled a few weeks ago. I walked away from the crash without a scratch. These are truly the safest cars on the road
Glad you are ok
@@jonredd650 Yes I am.. Thanks 👍
I got a 1997 volvo 850 T5 turbo is next to the R only 110.567 miles on it best VOLVO 850 T5 I ever own drives like new very fast performance volvo hallo from VOLVO CARS SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA USA 🇺🇸
Got my grandpas old s70 glt. It’s been in ditches and everything but it’s still kicking💪
The early S/V/V 70's where some of the greatest cars ever build. Makes sense they took the fantastic 850 and everything wrong with it got improved. Well except the turn radius
I totally agree with you. Very underappreciated in my opinion. You are right about the turning radius
I've had a 2000 S70 140hp, and a 1998 V70 2,5 and I now have a S70 2.4t.
The S70 2,4T is the perfect compromise for mileage unless you want more power. The late 99 to 00 have the ETS (Electronic throttle sensor) that are keen to fail which can render your car unusable suddenly. Volvo changed the faulty ones on S/V70 from 99-04 on good will if you wanted to in the beginning of the 2000's.
And my 2.4T is perfect because the 2.5T had what you call turbo lag, was really quick however but the 2.4T gives you the power from lower RPM's.
I totally agree with you. Driving a more recent V70 2.5T I do notice some Turbo lag. I did find the 2000 S70 140HP surprisingly sprightly if not fast and honestly less troublesome@@nov2263
@@carsandallaboutcars2939 Yeah I read somewhere 140hp has more torque than the 170hp?
@@carsandallaboutcars2939 Definitely felt faster 0-60 than any 170hp I've driven
Correct, the Electronic Throttles were made by an Italian subsidiary company of Fiat and were defective. Volvo extended the warranty on them to 100,000 miles. For cars past 100k there are rebuild kits that can be purchased (soldering ability required to rebuild) or they can be sent to a Canadian company called Xemodex that rebuilds them for $500.
my old s70 i got for 45 dollars was really nice although it was not drivable on a physical and legal standpoint, but still fun to own for those 2 moonths. fun fact: i scrapped mine 1 day before you posted this video
Wow! $45 Dollars. Thats incredible!
@@carsandallaboutcars2939 yeah but it was a shitbox and the gearbox grinded to hell on the way to the recycling
Just retired my 2000 s70 awd. 296300 miles. The awd fuel pump replacement was the most expensive part of ownership. The rest I could replace.
Wow! I'm sure you miss that car
im about to go look at a s70 any thing i should look at any thing that breaks or needed fixing regularly it has 60k miles and 1 owner its like a gem but i still need to go see it so lets hope
@@_Shotox_ Sounds like a great buy! That's very low miles. Ask if the PCV valve has been serviced. If it's the 5-cylinder ask if the timing belt and water pump have been changed. Any receipts would help
Beautiful car and good video. Greetings from Sweden 👍
Thanks! Sweden is a beautiful country
@@carsandallaboutcars2939 Thank you🙌
The first actually safe Volvo
I agree 💯
It's all real wood. Hard to believe but it is. It has clear plastic over it.
That's interesting 🤔. Thanks for the update
Прекрасная машина !!!!!!!!!
Thanks 😊
Buy it
Okay 👌😊
