The only thing that gives me a twinge of comfort in the rage that Bryan got off for the murder is that you can visibly tell this has eaten him up from the inside-out for the past 2 decades. When he was explaining what happened I can almost see the brick coming off his chest.

I've consumed a lot of true crime. But hearing his friends testimony absolutely shattered my heart. He must have been so confused and betrayed in his final moments and that breaks my heart. God bless his mother for fighting for the truth.
Kendall, I really appreciate how you always donate to an organization that means something to the family after sharing their story. It really makes your podcast/channel more about the heart of the matter and not just the “sensation” of the story and capitalizing on it.
Mike’s mom is a fucking rockstar. She was on his episode of disappeared YEARS ago and advocated tirelessly for her son. I hope she’s able to have a relationship with her granddaughter one day. Everyone should be so lucky to have such powerful love like Cheryl gave to Mike
Based on what I’ve heard & seen on the case, it was never treated like a crime from the start. Kathy didn’t know Bryan had lied as there were never any real interviews or interrogations. That’s why he later panicked when he realized she had begun talking to the police & asked her to meet at McDonald’s so he could try to match the storyline.
This case has been one that has stuck with me for such a long time. Mike’s mother’s pain. The straight up betrayal. I’m glad justice was finally served. I hate that Mike’s mother had to go all those years without her granddaughter and son. The unimaginable pain.
I cannot even imagine Mike's mother having to listen to the testimony of his best friend, turned killer, tell how he killed and then disposed of his body. My heart hurts so much for her and the son that was killed.
His mom is a badass. I’ve never felt so much proud onto a stranger. Mike seems to have been an incredible person. My heart goes to Cheryl, his daughter and the entire community impacted by this tragic crime. Its impossible to fathom how someone even gets to a place of doing something like this. Rest in grace, Mike! You are being remembered by millions now. No one will ever remember the name of those who have done this to you.
I’m so glad that Mike’s Mom never stopped until she was able to get justice for her son ❤. I’m crying right now thinking about all the suffering Mike’s family went through. RIP, Mike 💐

@@BeccabinsonI totally understand and respect that decision. I’ve had to take a break from watching cases of crimes against children. It’s too heartbreaking. It seems like since Madeline Soto’s murder in February that’s all I’ve been hearing. It began messing with my sleep. Murder itself is unimaginable but against a child is too much to bear.
I get that giving Bryan a lesser punishment was necessary to get him to confess, but full immunity?? They probably could’ve just given him less time in prison. It still wouldn’t be full justice, but definitely better than nothing. But oh well I suppose, at least Mike’s family finally has answers. All of his mom’s work wasn’t for nothing, she truly is incredible❤️
I always feel so guilty for the way I love true crime. I listen to your channel (and have done for a long long time) while I’m cleaning etc and I always look forward to, I just have this huge guilt for it as it’s someone else’s grief and trauma. Often I’ll be washing up with tears down my face and a heart full of empathy. I just also want to come on and show love and support to you Kendall. You’re a faraway friend when I need the company most ❤
I feel exactly the same-guilty too. But really, true crime tells the victim's story, so they aren't forgotten, shows us what kind of people to watch out for, what kinds of activities to avoid, how to be vigilant in such a twisted world, and how to protect our children.
I cannot imagine how terrified Mike must have been in those last moments, perhaps knowing he was pushed, wondering why, fighting to get the clothes off that where weighing him down, wondering why his friend wasn't trying to save him but was in fact moving the boat further away and then maybe even seeing the gun that ended his life. I don't believe Bryan should have been offered Immunity - nor should any guilty person, it shouldn't even be a possibility but perhaps a reduced sentence. I really feel for Mike's daughter. It's understandable that she see's her Mom as innocent and just wants her Mom in her life. I am so glad Mike's Mom got to find out the truth and get her son's body back.
Did yall know this case has a CRAZY tie to the wade Wilson case?? In Danielle Kirsty’s video, she explained how when Bryan was sitting in jail, he knew Denise was a liability and wanted to order a hit. Apparently, wade wilson was also in this jail at the same time, and offered to take care of Denise. Obviously, it didn’t happen. But how freaking insane is that??? 🤯
Mikes mother is precious! I would be proud to have a mother like her! She never gave up but love for your child will give you a strength you didn't know you had! It's a powerful thing!
Kendall, you’re one of the few that actually gives back, and I want to thank you for that. If Cheryl sees this, I want her to know I agree. She never gave up.
I’m born and raised in Tallahassee. My uncle was friends with Mike and we even visited his mom over the years. I’m glad you’re covering this as someone who’s been following you for a while. Mikes story needs to be heard
I watched this through court TV and remember Mike’s mother’s victim statement, it was powerful and heartbreaking… I cried when she got to the part about not being allowed to visit her grandchildren : (
this is ridiculous, the man who literally pushed and shot and got rid of the body got immunity, but the woman who probably maybe planned it with him got in prison? how does any of that make any sense, why can you get immunity if you then admit you murdered someone? even if she's fully guilty of her part, which she probably is but there's still a slight chance she isn't, while HE FULLY CONFESSED, he still murdered him with his own hands. this whole system is a crime itself.
He is guilty sure... BUT...definitely not more than the one who WANTED Mike dead ! Denise... 🤷 Like in murder-for-hire cases, the one who conspires the murder is ofc more guilty than the one who just do it. So Denise being imprisoned is actual justice. Brian would have been too separately for the murder if not for the deal.
I was thinking the same thing. Literally, the only proof is... the testimony of the man Denise said kidnapped her because she wanted a divorce. Like, from what we hear, her behavior is VERY suspicious, but I did not see or hear a shred of evidence that definitely proved that she planned it. Instead, there is a very real chance the actual murderer wanted revenge bc his wife wanted to leave him. And not people saying "Brian just did it, she planned it so she deserved a harsher punishment".... He was just as involved in the planning, by his own confession.
Oh man, this one got me a little extra. The thought of him panicking and wondering why his best friend wasn’t steering the boat towards him. Then seeing his best friend fumbling around in the boat and then pointing a gun at him…I just can’t even fathom that. It’s sickening and sad and gross. I don’t blame the daughter for being blind to it all considering her first 17 years of life she would only remember her mom who likely raised her normally and lovingly. 😢
I just finished watching the 48 Hours episode about Mike, exited the video, and saw you uploaded on the same exact case! Thanks to you and your team for the amount of work you put into these videos. After years of watching different true crime content creators, you’re still one of my favorites!

Girls get in! We’re watching Kendall Rae! Thank you for posting this story, Kendall. I think this is an important story that is less covered than others.
Brian getting full immunity is ridiculous - he was given so many opportunities to stop the plan, especially when Mike was able to swim away, but he still went through with it. He was also obviously planning to kill Denise when they arrested him so it seems pretty clear he would be willing to commit murder again. It's also so upsetting how often families of the victims have to be the ones to seek out the truth on their own - what Mike's mom did was amazing, but she shouldn't have had to do that all by herself
Why was Cheryl putting all the pieces together and not the 'detectives'? Disgraceful how they abondoned the case and allowed his murderous wife get away with it for so long
Cheryls unrelenting belief is so inspiring. I am glad that this isn’t another cold case and that she no longer has to wonder. What an amazing example of a mother's intuition and love that never gives up. I'm glad they have some measure of peace in that they were able to give Mike a proper burial and for the people involved to be behind bars- at least, for a time. It goes to show that maybe you can't 100% trust anyone- especially when money and lust are involved. Sending my love to Mike's family, especially his mom and daughter.

Denise is unquestionably a narcissist. I’d die on that hill. The making Mike leave work just to pump her gas bullshit was already a point in the Narcissist category, but that police interview footage of her telling them how her husband attacked her sealed the deal. You can tell she’s EXCITED and PROUD, despite apparently being attacked and held at gunpoint. You can hear in her voice that she thinks she’s so smart and cunning and clever when she’s telling them how she manipulated him into not killing her. A normal person who’d been through that scenario who had used the same manipulation to save their own life would not sound so smug and self-satisfied when recounting it. She gets off on feeling like she’s controlling people. She liked that when she said jump, Mike said how high. It’s why she wielded that power to get him to come pump her gas even though it’d take longer for him to leave work and drive there than it would for her to pump her own damn gas. She just liked that she was pulling the strings and getting him to do outlandish shit for her because it made her feel powerful and boosted her ego. Then the situation with husband #2 made her feel powerful and booster her ego all over again, because in her mind she was so cunning and sly and such a good manipulator that he actually believed everything she said and she likes that.
Also, the way she paints the picture of him holding her at gun point, like she's just this innocent woman caught up in an insane violent man's antics, and she cleverly escaped. She's not responsible for any of this, clearly. She's just as despicable as he is.
I thought this as well! I'm from Louisiana, and I am all about good southern manners and a man who knows all about them. My husband pumps my gas for me when we are riding together, but I would never ask him to leave anywhere just to come pump my damn gas. That is just stupid, unless you are a controlling and manipulative narcissist. I feel sorry for her daughter. She has grown up in the house with her for her entire life, she doesn't know any difference. As she grows up and experiences life outside of her mother's control, she will figure things out for herself. I hope she can handle it.
That man has to live with the fact he killed his best friend for a woman. You can tell by his testimony it's been eating at him and it will continue to eat at him for the rest of his life. That's probably just as bad.

The fact that Brian got absolutely no punishment for murdering his so called best friend has me so infuriated. I do get that without that, they may not have solved the case, but it feels too much to me. However, if Cheryl had agreed to this, then that's absolutely her right of course. Who knows what I would do in her situation if it were my son? I only hope I'm even half the mother she is 💚

The reason she didn't want a divorce is because she didn't want to split half with Mike or spend the money on a divorce. That narcissist wanted to take EVERYTHING.

My family and I are from Tallahassee and I've always heard about what happened to Mike from my grandpa, they went to church together growing up and our families were all very close, they would even go hunting together. My grandpa said Mike was a good man and I'm happy he got the justice he deserved, rest in peace Mike.

The audacity of Denise to snitch on Bryan mentally breaking down because of her, knowing full well he could (and would) snitch on her for killing her husband.
I think she thought because he was actually the one to pull the trigger he would never snitch on himself, but oh well was she surprised.
I've consumed a lot of true crime. But hearing his friends testimony absolutely shattered my heart. He must have been so confused and betrayed in his final moments and that breaks my heart. God bless his mother for fighting for the truth.
His mom is a rock star!!! She deserves all the peace in the world now.
How can you sacrifice such a good friend for your sinful passion😭
My question also is why did Kathy take so long to say his alibi wasn’t real
Based on what I’ve heard & seen on the case, it was never treated like a crime from the start. Kathy didn’t know Bryan had lied as there were never any real interviews or interrogations. That’s why he later panicked when he realized she had begun talking to the police & asked her to meet at McDonald’s so he could try to match the storyline.
“He would leave work to go pump her gas.” What kind of idiot would call their husband to have him leave work & pump your gas?
Right?! I could never! Hell no

Wade turned jail house snitch 😅😂 that's the only reason he offered to help Bryan, to help himself 😮😮
I watched this through court TV and remember Mike’s mother’s victim statement, it was powerful and heartbreaking… I cried when she got to the part about not being allowed to visit her grandchildren : (
“You and Debra are the same age, but y’all sure don’t look it.” Officer McCranie subtly went for Denise’s neck in that interview.
I was thinking that too, holy shit dude. He didn't hold back on that
this is ridiculous, the man who literally pushed and shot and got rid of the body got immunity, but the woman who probably maybe planned it with him got in prison? how does any of that make any sense, why can you get immunity if you then admit you murdered someone? even if she's fully guilty of her part, which she probably is but there's still a slight chance she isn't, while HE FULLY CONFESSED, he still murdered him with his own hands. this whole system is a crime itself.
Of course both are to blame, but if denise would’ve just gotten a divorce I doubt any of this would’ve happened….
But yet u have gypsy rose who is out free after planning her momma's murder while the actual "killer" is in for life 😂🤷
He is guilty sure...
Right. Even if she planned and caused it all, he could have not done it. He is cold blooded animal just like Denise.
Cheryl is the epitome of what a mom should be. God bless her.
Can you imagine how Mike felt in his last moment... his best friend 😭
Mike sounds like he was a wonderful man who trusted his wife and best friend 😢
Its so wild that someone could avoid divorce cause they believe its a sin but then.... murder....
Right. And they're okay having an affair, but divorce is the sin?? Okay. Lol Sick woman.
It has more to do with how other people see you than anything spiritual. This a lot of Christians.
No, not about Christians don’t generalize. That woman was a sociopath and wanted the insurance money.
Mike’s mom is definitely a warrior standing up and fighting for her son while she was being annoyed by everyone. May her son rest in peace
Just imagining how scared he must’ve been when he was shot by his best friend… my heart broke for Mike.

Mike was truly a light in this world, I hope his soul is at peace
What horrible people! The love of Mike’s mother is phenomenal!!! He did not deserve to have such a selfish wife and “friend”.
But I hate that not just 1 person responsible but both of them are not facing life in prison.

What an amazing example of a mother's intuition and love that never gives up. I'm glad they have some measure of peace in that they were able to give Mike a proper burial and for the people involved to be behind bars- at least, for a time.
She might be on the Sociopath Category.
Absolutely she is a manipulative narcissist.
That man has to live with the fact he killed his best friend for a woman. You can tell by his testimony it's been eating at him and it will continue to eat at him for the rest of his life. That's probably just as bad.
What is it with people who think getting a divorce is WORSE than murder? Like, killing someone is less shameful???
Religion is toxic as hell.
